Chapter Six: The Battle Of Olympus

A handful of minutes later, the group materialised on the outskirts of Olympus with their plan laid out and ready. However, it was only now that they all saw the changes that had been made since the trio left almost a day ago. The normally bright blue sky of Olympus had turned eerily dark, thunder and lightning crackling ominously above the Temples of Olympus, silhouetting the tall buildings around them. "Right we can't stand here all day, let's go." Dawn said, pulling her eyes away from the many wrecked houses and swallowing down the fear as she and the other Rebels headed for the High Temple in front of them.

"Well that's certainly an ego and a half." Loki drawled as the Rebels passed two newly erected statues of Hades and Hel in the Centre of Olympus, a relatively smaller statue of Zeus up ahead. Suddenly, as the Rebels passed the Temple of Heracles four Guards came running towards them, spears at the ready. The Guards were fast, but as usual, Ace was faster. She clicked her fingers and every Guard disappeared, quick as a wink. "Where did you send them?" Pandora asked as they all headed forwards again at a quick pace. "Oh the highest Cave on one of the Norse Mountains. I would've tried to hide us but they had already saw us so there wasn't much point anyway, that should get them out of the way." As Ace finished, a small, nervous-looking Guard slipped out from behind a Temple, running towards the foreboding shape of the High Temple, intent on alerting the other Loyals.

However this time, as Ace raised her hand, Caspian put his own hand over hers, causing the Rebels to turn and look at him expectantly as he spoke, "Oh don't worry Ace, I think I've got this." Then with that, Caspian closed his eyes and put two fingers to his temple concentrating hard until... the young Guard collapsed in a heap on the cloudy floor. "I take it they'll be ok?" Dawn asked in a matter-of-fact tone to a nod from Caspian. While both her and Cascadia looked as though they'd seen this before a couple of times, Loki and Eris were looking almost approvingly at Caspian as they moved towards the High Temple, while Ace and Pandora looked at each other, Brenda giving Caspian a sweeping look of approval. "Holy shit." Breathed Ace. "I know right?" Pandora responded, as the two caught up with the others.

As the Rebels arrived at the High Temple they noticed that many of the houses around them had indeed been destroyed, leaving Olympus in disarray, Dawn's eyes glittered with angry tears as she seethed at the destruction her home. But as she cried, Pandora and Ace put a hand on each of her shoulders offering her encouraging smiles while Loki and Eris nodded at each other and ran out from their hideout, throwing smoke bombs down next to the Guards as they did, creating a cacophony of colourful smoke and Guards' confused yells. "That's the signal! Go!" Brenda said in a loud whisper. With that, all the group exited their hiding places, sneaking past the extremely distracted Guards, one of whom was having raw fish dumped on his head by Loki while Eris cast a spell causing another Guard to hop in pain as the soles of his sandals burned. Both Loki and Eris were laughing wickedly, enjoying the utter carnage they were creating as the Rebels separated into their two teams and headed through the large doors into the High Temple.

Dawn, and Cascadia darted past the Guards while Ace pulled a key from the Chief Guard's belt and ran back to them allowing the three to open a nearby door and slip down the staircase that led to the lower levels of the Temple. When they reached the first level of Dungeons they were met with the sight of many occupied cells hosting Immortals who'd had the bravery to oppose Hades and Hel. They rushed to the first cell and Dawn opened the door while Cascadia conjured a large wave of water, throwing the Guards against the cell doors and knocking them out, quickly handing whatever weapons she could take to the inmates as Ace dropped her card in an alcove in the wall separating each of the 5 cells. Along they went, freeing each prisoner one by one, but still no sign of Aphrodite or Vulcan. So the three headed down to one of the lowest levels and while Ace teleported the Guards into an empty cell, locking the door in double- quick time Dawn freed the prisoners, dropping several cards of her own on the floor with a distracted hand.

But worry was invading the mind of the Goddess of Light, there had been no unoccupied cells on the first level but here there were only 3 occupied cells when the Goddesses had first entered. "They have to be here." Dawn thought, Ace in the background shoving one of her cards into the strap of a Guard's Helmet before they headed down to the very last floor which had 3 separate doors leading into what was, presumably, small corridors of cells. The three looked at each other, and in barely any time, Dawn had taken the key and jumped into the third door, leaving Cascadia and Ace to open the other unlocked doors. Unfortunately for Ace, as soon as she entered the corridor, she began to recognise the dampening sensation unique to this floor, which doubled as she tried to teleport out. "Drat. Highest security level, of course they'd have a teleport dampener." Ace knew she'd have to concentrate extremely hard as she moved slowly up the corridor, any fast movement and the illusion shrouding her would be broken, and well, there was nowhere for her to go now. There at the end of the corridor, next to a young, peaky Guard stood Sigfrid, possibly the fiercest Valkyrie around. Great. Ace knew she was good, but a warrior like Sigfrid? She'd rather approach this more cautiously, particularly when her easy escape card was out of use.

As Ace kept herself hidden from the Guards, she pondered her next move. Finally, she decided. She'd seen a few Dragons in her life and she knew that Immortals like Sigfrid would've surely been involved in the vicious Dragon Wars, a warrior like Sigfrid would surely be distracted enough by a memory such as that. It was harsh sure, but in the current situation, was there much else to do? Ace sighed, clenched her fists, shut her eyes and stopped concentrating on hiding herself beginning to concentrate on the large, ruby red, scaly Dragon that had suddenly appeared in front of the Guards. The walls appeared to crack from the strain of the Dragon's massive wings crashing into it as Ace bit her lip, suppressing a grunt of effort. The peaky Guard yelled in fright, running for the door, which opened as Sigfrid drew her sword, Ace just managing to send a large yellow forcefield in front of the peaky Guard who promptly crashed right into it, knocking himself out. Ace turned back to the Dragon struggling to keep up the illusion. Her fists clenched tightly, Sigfrid raised her spear swishing it from side to side as she held a steady gaze with her foe's orange slitted eyes. She made as though she was going to attack the Dragon's head then as the illusion roared she stuck her spear right in the place where the heart would be. "Oh for f- fine, now for the hard part." Ace thought as her head began to thump with pain and the Goddess made a spurt of blood come pouring from the wound as the Dragon roared in pain. Then a jet of flames appeared to come flying out of the Dragon's mouth but Sigfrid ducked out of the way thankfully not noticing that for a split second there was not a trace of blood on her spear. She stabbed the Dragon once more where the second heart of a Dragon would live causing Ace to curse more as she held the illusion together with the skin og Ace grunted shaking with the effort of holding the illusion as a spurt of blood appeared there and the Dragon fell down to the ground. "Holy Hydra blood I'm never doing that again." Ace whispered under her breath as Sigfrid continued breathing heavily, keeping a cautious eye on the Dragon in front of her. "Bloody heck lady come on!" Ace thought as Sigfrid was finally distracted by the vision of the peaky kid who was lying unconscious on the floor, looking back once more at the Dragon, her face betraying her confusion as she headed for the young Guard. Finally, as Ace could barely hold the illusion any longer, Sigfrid ran out of the room, the Guard in her arms as she gave one last sweeping look at the room's contents.

The second the warrior was gone, Ace fell to the floor gasping with effort as a round of slow applause came echoing from the occupied cell in which sat a God with lightly tanned skin, long messy red hair and large brown eyes, who had an impressed expression on his snide face. "Oh great. I go to all that effort and I find you Torsten." Ace said sarcastically as she walked up to the cell coming right up to the bars, Torsten looking back at her with a sarcastic smile. "Well I must say that was an impressive illusion... for someone with as little talent as you." Torsten sneered as Cascadia and Dawn came running through the door, Ace keeping her eyes on the lighting God. "We saw Sigfrid running off with an unconscious Guard in her arms what happened?!" Dawn asked in a concerned rush. "Oh your little buddy over there created a very good illusion of a Dragon to distract the Guards so she could rescue me. Or at least I think that's why she did it." Torsten said in his cool drawl making Dawn and Cascadia notice him for the first time. "Oh brilliant. You." Cascadia said softly shooting Torsten a look of deep dislike as the three Goddesses huddled together, whispering. "Listen I don't think he's really their prisoner. Look at him, all the others are tired and weak and he looks as though he's only just gone in." Ace said gesturing behind her at Torsten who did indeed look much less weak than the other people they'd rescued so far, as though he'd just stepped into the cell. "Does it matter? We have to find my parents- they're- they're not anywhere else I can see." Dawn whispered looking at the other two, Ace's face softening a little as she saw Dawn's upset face. "Dawn we will find them." "Who's this? I think I might well be able to help you three here." "What?" Snapped Dawn as she practically ran towards Torsten's cell. "I know a door that leads to the last few cells down here. I know your parents are there." "If you're lying to me-" Dawn said, putting a hand against the cell bars as her dark eyes raked into Torsten's lighter brown ones. "Why would I be?" Asked Torsten calmly, looking from Dawn to Ace, who was standing a bit back from the bars, her eyes narrowed, flashing a dangerous yellow. "Listen.." Torsten began, as Dawn looked sceptical. "They trapped me in here. My father trapped me in here. You don't think I want revenge? We've got a common interest." "Dawn I don't think-" "Deal." Dawn cut across Ace, leaving Ace and Cascadia exchanging worried looks. Dawn went to unlock Torsten's door before Ace clicked her fingers, the keys falling into her hand. "Dawn wait!" "Ace, give me the keys." "Dawn this is almost certainly a trap, come on, you know the risks." "Ace is right Dawn." Said Cascadia, her voice just a trifle louder than usual. "Of course I know the risks!" Shouted Dawn, her voice cracking as she took a step towards Ace, "I know the risks, but I also know that my parents have to be somewhere. They have to be Ace! You said it yourself! We have to find them!" Dawn finished, tears bubbling up in her eyes as she continued. "But what if they're somewhere else- what if they escaped before anyone got to them-" "What if?! What if?! We don't have time for what ifs!" Dawn said, allowing Ace a pause to think, before grabbing the keys from her, and turning round determinedly. "Trouble in paradise?" Torsten drawled with a slight smile as Dawn unlocked his cell door and chains. "You shut up." She snapped, giving the God a scathing look and following him as he walked out of the room, him and Ace exchanging a narrow-eyed stare as he passed. "I'm sorry, but I had to act." Said Dawn, as she followed Torsten, the sound of Guards running down the stairs making them speed up. "I understand." Ace said softly, before Torsten casually knelt down and pulled out a rock from the wall, grabbing a lever and opening the wall to reveal a long corridor of cells. "Right across from my room, this is what happens when your staff leave the door open." Torsten said absent-mindedly to the others as Dawn pushed past him. "Not even a thank you?" "Oh do shut up Torsten." Scoffed Ace, pushing past him as he and Cascadia rushed after the two, down past the many empty cells until Torsten found one small staircase leading down to a cell that Dawn ran straight into, the others following close behind. When she arrived, it was then that Dawn saw the words written in what looked ominously like fresh golden blood on the wall.

TOO LATE!!!

At these words Dawn drew a sharp intake of breath as the others arriving behind her froze in horror at the message. Dawn didn't speak, she just kicked the bars of the cell and fell to the ground, her whole frame crumpling. A second of silence later, and the Goddess felt a gentle hand on her shoulder and looked up to see Ace staring at her determinedly, a small smile flushing her face. "We aren't giving up yet Dawn. Come on. This isn't over." The kind, determined voice in which Ace spoke, echoed Dawn's typical voice far more than her own, as Cascadia nodded in agreement behind her. Slowly but surely the fight came back to Dawn's eyes and she dashed out of the room followed by the other three Immortals. As they passed the confiscated weapons cupboard Torsten asked for the key while Dawn continued up the stairs, giving no thought to the God of Lightning as he quickly pulled a short metal Hammer from the cupboard, much like his father's, throwing the key back to Ace who shoved it in her pocket watching him with suspicion etched in the frown on her pale face. Smelling a rat, she pulled him back by his arm, nodding at Cascadia to run up ahead. "If you knew they weren't there, or you know where they are now and you aren't telling us, I can make your life a nightmare, and I will." "If you're quite finished, we'd all like some revenge now." Torsten said, giving Ace one last look as he ran back up the stairs, the Goddess of Chaos quickly following him.

Barely a moment after they'd entered the hall, Dawn was forced to duck to avoid a piece of flying debris striking her in the head. At this, the three Goddesses rushed to meet their friends with Torsten following uncertainly, a few steps behind. It was utter carnage on either side of the Temple, on one side were the Rebels: Dawn, Ace, Pandora, Cascadia, Caspian, Brenda, Loki, Eris and now Torsten, who was cowering behind the other Rebels to suspicious looks from some of them. Then on the other side the so-called Loyals: Hades, Hel, Zeus, Poseidon, Thor and Minerva to name a few. Swords clanged against each other, bolts of lighting shot across the room while thunder boomed above, jets of light in many colours ricocheted off the walls and threatening to strike members of the team from which they had been fired.

However, the fighting abruptly stopped when Zeus spotted Dawn then the lights from the torches disappeared, leaving them in all submerged in an almost darkness, Zeus, and Hel grinning evilly as the sounds of shouts and yells ebbed away and steely gazes were held throughout the Temple. "Well.. now that everyone is finally in the same room we may as well reveal some secrets... after all I'm sure you'd have worked it out eventually." Hades said with his eyes narrowed, every word that left his grey lips dripping with a cold malice. "Where are my parents?" Dawn yelled trying to hold onto to hope before it fell from her grasp. "Oh yes brother I think we should bring her in now." Hades said, addressing his brother Zeus who clicked his fingers, summoning two Guards who were holding a struggling Aphrodite in their arms. Dawn's eyes blazed with fury then she ran nimbly up to Zeus, dodging an attack from Hel and from Thor as she grabbed the Greek God of Thunder by his collar, staring him down while the other Rebels came running at the Loyals. Loki headed for Thor, saying as the two clashed, "Well hello nephew, how's losing suiting you?" A great big grin on his sly face as Thor darted out at the sneaky little God while Eris ran over to Minerva, dodging the Goddess' every attack and retorting with jets of Magic that clanged off Minerva's sword with an almighty sound. As that happened, Caspian took his father and Brenda took hers, the two happy to give their parents a piece of their mind.

Whilst the others fought, Ace took Hel and Pandora took her father while Dawn spoke furiously to Zeus. "Where. Is. My. Father?" She demanded barely noticing through her fury that the God paused for a moment, his glassy eyes suddenly clearing and his face looking as though an old memory had surfaced... and not a good one. However almost instantly after this small relapse something made the God's eyes cloud over again, Zeus giving Dawn nothing more than a cold laugh. The Goddess of Light grunted in anger but abandoned the God at the sight of her mother who had fought off the two Guards who'd dragged her into the room, running up to her and sharing a long hug until Dawn thought again of Vulcan. But before Dawn could say another thing Pandora spoke her eyes blazing with anger. "You better tell her where her father is or-" "Or what? What are you and your little resistance going to do about if we don't?" Hel asked grinning wickedly as her eyes fell once again on her father. "Father." Hel nodded curtly at him. "Ah my least favourite child how delightfully awful to see you." Loki said dryly with a sour smile on his face. But it was at this point that Caspian looked deep into Hel's mind trying to pick out what they had done as Hel saw him concentrating and smiled malevolently waiting until the knowledge hit the young God making him stumble backwards, his face turning as white as his hair. Surely they couldn't have? "Such a pity you picked the losing side- I'm sure you'd have been in a very good place after the War if you came with us. Now the only place you'll be going is the Afterlife." Hel said to her father as Hades' fiery eyes bored into Dawn's dark ones, the two staring hard at each other. "We'll see about that." Dawn said determinedly. "Tell me where he is!" Aphrodite demanded taking a dangerous step towards the God of Death, who smiled slyly. "I think I'll break the news then?" Hel asked Hades who nodded with a grimace as deadly as poison etched on his pale face. "Let's just say... it was one less dirty Roman to deal with after we were done with him." Smirked Hel, breaking out into peels of shrieking laughter as Dawn stumbled backwards breathing heavily, disbelief clouding her face while tears flooded Aphrodite's dark eyes, but she held them back as she took one of Loki's daggers from his and ran up to a laughing Hades holding it to his neck, silencing any laughter from the God of Death as a shaking Caspian told the others what the Loyals had done.

At this new knowledge, Pandora's fists clenched and in a split second she had a sword up against both her parents' hearts staring at them through the emerald green eyes that were filled with angry tears. "How many of them did you kill?" She whispered in a deadly voice shouting it again over her parents' vicious laughs. "I said how many?!!" "Oh I lost count after the first 50." Hades drawled as Hel laughed maliciously but before Pandora could do anything Hades was thrust backwards sending Zeus crashing to the ground and when the eyes in the room looked for the source they found a furious Ace, Chaotic Magic bursting and crackling around her. Dawn running over to the two of them and putting her foot down on Hades' chest to stop him getting up with a furious twisted expression of sadness across her face. "You- you poisoned innocent people and you're laughing? You're a monster. You all are!!" She said looking at the 3 Immortals with pain running down her face. "They disobeyed us, they payed the price and mark my words all of you, the ones you freed tonight will pay as well." Hades said looking straight into Dawn's eyes. Dawn's eyes looked empty as she stepped back, an uncertain thing like pleasure in her face as Ace let out a huge blast of Energy, joined by Pandora, their combined energy blasting both him and Zeus hard into the nearby walls.

"They took all the prisoners on the bottom floor except for Torsten, seems his father wanted to spare him." Aphrodite said while she fought with Zeus. "I see I made a mistake." Thor spat as his son fought him, perhaps a tad half-heartedly, while Loki doused the God with cold water and shoved a small dagger in his back cackling at his unbridled fury. In this unbridled fury, Thor pulled out the dagger and threw it at the God of Mischief but he was simply too quick for Thor ducking out of the way slyly. Eris was keeping Minerva distracted in one corner of the room while Brenda and Caspian took on Cascadia and Poseidon. Ace, who had been battling Hel with Pandora teleported behind Hel and pulled the Goddess down to her level before speaking softly and angrily. "Why kill them? Why kill them just because they stood against you?" Hel hit Ace in the stomach causing her to buckle over in pain while Pandora threw her mother off her feet and ran to check on Ace. "Oh you don't get it do you? Yes they disobeyed us but to tell the truth it was something fun to do. The screams are always so enjoyable." As Hel laughed she received a hard punch straight on the nose from her furious daughter as Pandora spoke bitterly, "You'll pay for this." "Oh yeah? Keep telling yourself that." Hel said scornfully throwing a ball of Dark Magic at Dawn's back which would have hit her, had it not been for a glowing yellow forcefield around her, coming from Ace, still slumped against the wall. As Ace got up the forcefield rebounded the attack which hit Hel right in the face sending her flying across the room until she hit a wall and slumped to the ground, unconscious to a furious yell from Hades. Before any of the three could get a headstart on him, Hades pulled a huge ball of writhing, undulating Dark Magic from between his fingers and threw it towards Ace. The Goddess of Chaos was fast, but the God of Death was faster. Ace flew across the room, cushioned only by a last second forcefield from Dawn, Pandora being blocked by the rushing fighters around her as she tried to go help the Goddess, who was groaning in pain, but managed a simple nod towards the God of Death. At this Pandora uncertainly nodded back, and she and Dawn turned to Hades with faces filled with pure anger.

Thor looked his son up and down as they fought, a bitter distaste etched in his face. "You picked the wrong side Torsten." Ace noticed the God of Lightning out of the corner of her eye and couldn't help feeling that he wasn't telling them something as Dawn and Pandora stood facing Hades, the battle raging on around them. Brother vs. sister, father vs. son, family vs. family as Hades stood facing the trio his eyes blazing. After one unsure look at each other, Dawn and Pandora ran back, giving the God of Death one last blast of energy as Ace yelled, "Let's go guys!", getting up on her feet, if a little clumsily. But as the Rebels headed for the door, Hades grabbed Caspian, pulling out a knife that was stained with deadly Cockatrice Venom, and pointing it straight to his throat, barely an inch away from his skin. Caspian didn't dare move. Nobody did. Even the Loyals stood, wary of what Hades would do next. Then Hades shouted out across the Temple to the other Rebels with a malicious grin streaked across his pallid face. "You Rebels can walk out of here anytime you like, however I think that your little friend here would prefer it if you stayed here... after all it would be such a shame if the knife slipped-" And with that Hades put the point of the knife just a little closer to Caspian's throat, the Venom inching towards the terrified God. Then- out of nowhere, someone grabbed Hades' hand and forced it away from Caspian giving the young God the crucial second he needed to run to the others as Hades whipped round to see who had hold of his wrist, looking round into the person's burning yellow eyes with a blaze of fury.

Ace looked back into the fiery eyes of the God with a look of firm resilience painted on her now clammy face as Hades pulled his hand out of Ace's grasp and pointed the knife right at the Goddess. Last time, the God of Death was faster, but the Goddess of Death wasn't losing, twice. Ace teleported away just in time and with that, the Rebels headed out of the Temple into the darkening evening, barely escaping the Loyal's clutches in one piece. Then just as Minerva, Thor and Poseidon made to follow them Dawn flicked out a hand behind her sending the debris around the Temple up to the doors in huge piles blocking the Immortals' exit as a huge yell of fury from the now conscious Hel broke through the darkened Temple.
