Chapter 6
After what happened that day, I thought that would be the first and last time I would see Adam, but I was wrong. Every morning, at my locker, he would already be there waiting for me. After school, he would also be waiting there if he didn't have football practice.
At first I tried ignoring him, but you see, it's hard to ignore his smile. He has one of the best smiles I've ever seen. When ignoring him didn't work, I tried to push him away. I told him to go away, to stop "bothering" me. To be honest, it wasn't too bad having him around. I realized how lonely I've been the past year. And besides, having the most popular boy in school paying attention to you isn't something that could be much of a bother.
In the end, I finally gave up trying to make Adam go away. I let him bring me home after school. We talked during the car ride and got to know each other. I found out that he loves kpop as much as I did. He likes Big Bang and Girl's Generation the best. And I told him that I like Infinite the best. I also told him that I listened to Big Bang, Girl's Generation, EXO, 2NE1, and 2PM too. His favorite color was also blue, just like me. He rarely mentioned his parents. I only knew that both of them were lawyers. And that they weren't home most of the time. Instead of talking about his 'rents, I told him about mine. I lived with my mom and I was an only child. My dad left us when I was 3. Adam changed the subject after I said and we never talked about our parents again.
We started talking to each other about everything. From Korean dramas (I'm still working on making him try it) to telling him ridiculous riddles I found on the internet. On the weekends, we would have a movie night. I would go to his place and we watched it in his living room.
It felt great to have a friend. And I guess that made me oblivious to certain things...

2 months later.
Adam was suppose to be here 15 minutes ago. Since a while ago, I told him I could wait after school for his football practice to end in the library. And when it was over, he would meet at my locker to bring me home. He always came on time. This never happened before. I got to my locker and didn't see him so I waited. And waited. For 20 minutes. That's when I decided to go look for him.
I went to the football field. Adam was there. He was talking with Brady at the bleachers. I was about to walk toward them when I heard them mention my name. I silently walked closer to them, straining to hear their conversation.
"...how's the plan going?"
"Yeah it's going great..."
"Did Sadie figure out anything?"
"...doesn't know anything..."
"When are you... breaking it off with her?"
"..dunno..maybe later."
"Did UCLA contact you yet?"
"Nothing yet, I just mailed my transcript."
"Alright, good luck."
When Brady walked away, I got up from my hiding spot and called for Adam. "Adam!" He turned around, his face pale when he saw me.
"Oh uhm, Sadie! I didn't see you there. Sorry for making you wait. I had to finish things up. Let me just go change real quick." Adam started to head toward the boy's locker room, but I blocked his way.
"What were you and Brady talking about?"
"Nothing, just football stuff," he replied nervously. I could tell he was lying.
"Oh. I heard you guys mention my name? What's it all about a plan?" Adam swore under his breath and started to apologetic toward me. "This wasn't how I planned to tell you."
"T-tell me what?"
Adam rubbed his hair in frustration. "I'm so so sorry Sadie. I never planned for you to find out." He looked at me and held onto my hands. I shook his hands off.
"Find out about what? Tell me!!!" I could feel my composure slip away.
"UCLA gave me an offer to join them next year. But my grades.. they weren't so great. I had to bring them up.. so I.. I... I'm so sorry."
"W-what.." Then realization hit me. He, he was using me. He never wanted to be my friend. He was going to throw me away when he got what he wanted. My eyes filled up with tears. I quickly brushed them away with my arm. I can't believe I didn't notice. Ever since we met, he had been giving me his homework and projects. But I was too caught up with the fact that I had a friend now to notice. I'm so stupid. I slapped myself on the head. Stupid. slap. Stupid. slap. Stupid. slap.
"Sadie! Stop it... stop it!" Adam cried and grabbed onto my hand.
"NO! You stop! Go awayyy!" I screamed and pushed his chest back as hard as I could. I swiftly turned around and ran away. Tears rolled down my cheek as the wind blew my hair back. Although I brushed the stray wet droplets away, fresh ones would replace them. They kept on coming. And I kept on running.
"Sadie!" Adam yelled as he chased after me.
I was so distracted with running away, I guess didn't see that I was already standing in the middle of the street. And that there was a truck coming toward me. I stood there frozen to my spot. Beepppp!!!! I heard Adam yell my name, a screech of tires, before everything went dark.

Beep beep beep. Beep beep beep. Beep beep beep...
Was that annoying beeping sound my alarm? I don't remember setting that as the alarm sound though. I opened my eyes and notice my surroundings. The walls were all white. The floor was also white. I was laying on a bed with white blankets. My right arm hurt like crazy. It was in a blue cast and in a sling. My mom was asleep beside me.
What on earth happened? I tried to remember but it made my head hurt. It felt like someone whacked me on the head with a hammer. Ouch.
I lightly shook my mom awake. "Mom, what happened to me?"
My mom jolted awake from the sound of my voice. "Honey you're awake! Let me call the doctor." She rushed out the door.
In a few moments, a slender woman came in with my mom. Her name tag said "Dr. Simons". I looked at her intently, waiting for her to explain my condition and hopefully what happened to me in the first place.
"Hello Sadie. I'm Dr. Simons, the doctor in charge of you," she said with a smile. "It's good that you're finally awake. You've been asleep for almost 2 weeks."
Woah that's a long time. "What happened to me?"
"Sadie honey, you got into a car accident." My mom smiled wearily. That's when I noticed her attire. She was wearing her work clothes. A white blouse and navy blue pencil skirt. One thing that was different than usual was that it was full of wrinkles. She must've stayed here with me the entire time. Not even leaving to change into something more comfortable.
"Thankfully your injuries are already healing so you'll be fine in no time. You'll be able to check out of the hospital in 2 days."
"How come I can't remember the accident?"
"You had a mild concussion which caused partial memory loss. I'm afraid I don't know when and if they can come back." Dr. Simons replied with a frown.
"Oh okay. I understand. Thank you doctor."
She nodded and exited the room.
"Mom, what about school? Graduation? Will this affect my grades?" I frantically asked.
"Don't worry sweetie. I handled it. Your teachers know what happened and they're willing to give you time to make up the work. Graduation is next week. You have plenty of time to get things back to normal." My mom assured with a warm smile.
I breathed a sigh of relief. I can't let this accident affect my future.
"Oh right. When you were asleep, there was this boy who was looking for you. His name was Andy?"
Andy? I tried to remember who he was, but it only made my head pound with pain. I winced.
"Oh honey! Are you alright? I shouldn't have told you that."
"Yah mom, I'm fine." I assured.

Like Dr. Simons said. I checked out of the hospital 2 days later.
The first few days back at school went by quickly. I had a lot of work to make up so all I did was homework. Besides that, I also had to send my transcripts to the universities that I was interested in. Harvard was my dream school and I hoped I could get in. I was planning to study business.
A few days after I sent in my transcript to Harvard, I received a letter from them.
Ms. Sadie Taylor,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to Harvard.
The Administration Office of Harvard.
I told my mom the good news and that night my mom brought me out to eat in celebration for my admittance to Harvard.
Everything was going along smoothly. It felt like the accident didn't even happen. Graduation soon rolled around the corner and before I knew it, I was on a flight to Massachusetts. To Harvard. My mom decided that she was going to stay in California while I'm away. She couldn't leave her job. And the house. I guess she still couldn't forget dad.
I stared out the window and looked at the buildings get smaller as we got higher and higher into the sky.
