Chapter : 19
Carly
As I rested my head on my large paws I let out a breath. I was exhausted after running with Xavier for so long. We had been running for about four hours, all around Xaviers large territory, before I had to stop due to exhaustion.
Now that my energy was leaving me so was my happiness and soon enough the guilt settled in. I shouldn't be out here having fun while my son is stuck with his monster of a father, it's unacceptable.
I rose to my feet and began to walk back towards the pack house, my head hung. Xavier was quick to follow behind me, instantly noticing my mood change. His large wolf head nudged my side but I didn't look at him.
'What's wrong?' Xaviers worried voice drifted into my head. I frowned but didn't respond.
Xavier soon grew annoyed with me ignoring and as a result of that he gave me a firm nudge, causing me to fall over, before sitting his large wolf body on top of mine.
I huffed in annoyance and looked up at him with narrowed eyes.
'Now tell me what's wrong.' He demanded. I rolled my eyes at the persistent man before giving in.
'I feel guilty.' I answered. Xavier looked at me in confusion, tilting his head to the side. I clarified.
'While I'm out here having fun who knows what Aiden is going through. Mason can't control his anger, ever.' I said in a small voice.
Xavier didn't speak for a few moments.
'Carly you have the right to have some happiness. I know that Aiden is gone and that tears you apart but you can't close every body out and be depressed all of the time, it's not healthy. We are going to get Aiden back, I promise you that.'
Xaviers strong voice reassured me. I sighed and nodded. Xavier gave me a wolfy grin before running his large tongue over my face. I growled playfully at him before shoving him off of me and chasing him back to the pack house.
My clothes were right where I had left them and once my body had returned to its original form I pulled them on, walking to join Xavier on the patio.
I immediately smelt the delicious scent of Melinda's cooking as soon as we entered the kitchen and it brought a small smile to my face. I hopped onto one of the tall stools at the island, watching Melinda work her magic.
A small squeak left my lips when I felt a pair of strong arms wrap around my waist. Xavier rested his head on my shoulder, giving my waist a small squeeze.
A blush warmed my cheeks as I relaxed back into him. Melinda was looking at us with a large smile but she didn't say anything.
"Whatcha cooking mom?" Xavier questioned. Melinda smiled at her only son as she continued to chop vegetables.
"Its a surprise my boy." She told him playfully. Xavier chuckled and gave a small nod.
"Alright, if you say so." He muttered.
"Well it smells delicious." I complimented, getting a grim and a thank you in return.
I was slightly disappointed when I felt Xavier pull away from me but before I knew it he had taken hold of my waist, lifting me as if I weighed nothing, before swinging me around so that I clung to his back like a monkey.
I laughed lightly as he grasped my legs which where wrapped around his waist. Xavier began trudging towards his office, making me frown in confusion.
"Where are we going?" I questioned. Xavier climbed the stairs and turned down a hallway.
"My office. I have called a small meeting with a few people to discuss strategy, see if we can find any way around the law." Xavier answered me.
I sighed and rested my head on his shoulder. If it wasn't for the law that gave Mason a right to Aiden then I would already have Aiden back in my arms.
Xavier pushed open his office door and I looked around to see a few familiar faces.
Collin, Noah and Seth sat on the large, black couch at the back of the room while three other unfamiliar men, probably pack warriors, sat in chairs around the room.
All six men turned to look at us when we entered and I watched as surprise flickered across a few faces. I didn't have the energy to be embarrassed though, so I simply held onto Xavier tighter.
Xavier walked over to his large office chair. He grabbed my leg and swung me around so that I was clinging to his front before sitting down, placing me on his lap.
I rested my back against him and looked at the men. Xavier cleared his throat, gaining the attention of his pack members.
"Okay I want to hear what you all have come up with." Xavier asked, gesturing for them to speak.
Collin cleared his throat and straightened his back.
"Well I've done extensive research and there is really no way around the law. The law states that both parents have equal rights to the child but seeing as Carly technically kidnapped Aiden when she ran away all those months ago she was violating the law. If we were to try to take this to the elders they most probably wouldn't grant custody to Carly." Collin told us, making my heart drop.
Xavier growled quietly.
"Well Mason kidnapped Aiden as well." Seth spoke up.
"He did but in the eyes of the elders he was just taking back his son from the person who kidnapped him in the first place. Mason being an alpha only makes the situation more complicated because Aiden is the only heir to the pack." Collin was completely educated on the subject.
"So basically we can't use the elders to get him back?" Xavier questioned, frustration clear in his voice. Collin shook his head.
"So our only option is to take Aiden back forcefully, starting a war." Xavier told the room. I frowned and looked down at my lap, guilt eating away at me. No matter how much I want my son back I was not willing to make this pack go to war in order to do so.
Just as I was about to say exactly that the phone on Xavier desk rang. We all froze for a half second before Xavier reached forward, and with the complete calmness, answered it.
"Alpha Xavier speaking." His deep voice barked out. I strained my ears to listen.
"Let me speak to Carly." Mason growled out, causing my breath to catch in my throat. Xavier narrowed his eyes.
"Why do you wish to speak with her?" Xavier questioned, sounding professional. Mason growled.
"Just put her on." Mason ordered. Xavier growled and was about to say something when I gently nudged him, nodding towards the phone.
He studied me with worried eyes for a few moments before slowly handing the phone over. I took a large breath before putting it to my ear.
"What do you want Mason?" I asked, voice quite.
"Well hello sweetheart, it's been a while since I've heard your voice, well other than when your screaming at me to return my son." Mason emphasized the word 'my'.
I rolled my eyes and clenched my jaw.
"What do you want Mason?" I again asked, my voice having am edge to it. Mason chuckled, causing unpleasant shivers to rack my body.
"I want you."
Three small words that made my breath stop, that made my heart begin to pump rapidly. Silence was heard all around.
"W-what?" I finally stuttered out.
"You heard me sweetheart." Mason said, sounding bored. I blinked. Once. Twice. I still didn't understand.
"W-what? I don't - I-I." My stuttering was making it hard to talk. Mason sighed.
"Your coming home Carly. I'm coming to get you on Tuesday so be ready, oh and don't you or your little mutts put up a fight, I'm only taking back what's rightfully mine." Mason barked out, his tone nasty.
My body froze but I felt Xavier growl beneath me before snatching the phone out of my hands.
"She is not going anywhere with you and I will see it as an act of war the minute you step foot onto my territory." Xaviers voice was dangerously though but Mason simply chuckled.
"Well then I guess this is war."
