Like a Lullaby - Part 4
Yoongi sat on the small sofa leaning on the armrest while Ara sat on the other end with her feet curled under her. He took a quick glance at her as she munched on some popcorn handing him the bowl. They had been watching a movie together. He felt warm and cozy in his new pajamas thanks to her. Everything about this place felt good. Even school had been tolerable.
Today they had walked to her job to pick up her paycheck. She was lucky to work at the local movie theater and got to see any movie for free. Yoongi looked up at the posters longingly. He loved movies but hadn't seen any in a while. She noticed and promised to bring him along when she worked so he could see one. After they cashed the check, she insisted on buying him some things, like underwear, socks, and pajamas. When they got home dinner was ready and their mom made him feel so welcome he nearly cried. She had bought a bunk bed so he could stay with them. He suddenly thought, 'How am I this lucky?'
"What do you want to do now?" She asked after they cleaned up.
Yoongi thought about what she might like to do but he had no idea. He shrugged his shoulders.
"How about we watch a movie?" She suggested.
Yoongi smiled thinking this was a great idea. "Sure!"
"Let's make some popcorn."
When the movie was over he thanked her and said good night as he made his way to her brother's room. He sat in his new bed thinking how blessed he was to be found by her.
This family had welcomed him into their home. Sitting in the new bed that Dawon and he had put together he felt peaceful. Yet he missed sleeping in her closet curled up like a kitten and the way Ara held him humming a lullaby till he succumbed to sleep. It was cozy and he felt safe there like no one could attack him while he slept. It was his greatest fear when he was homeless. He had been forced to do things he would rather forget.
"Goodnight, Dawon," he said talking to his new roomie. Suddenly he got up.
"Where are you going?" The boy asked.
"To the bathroom."
"Yoongi!" Ara exclaimed, surprised to find him in her room.
"I just wanted to let you know how grateful I am. You didn't have to spend your money on me."
"It's okay. I'm happy to do it."
"If there is anything I can do for you please let me know."
"Sure. You look cute in your new pajamas," she cooed with a twinkle in her eye.
"Oh. Thank you," Yoongi answered in his soft gentle voice.
"Goodnight, kitten. Sweet dreams."
"You too, my kitty, sweet dreams."
"You're safe here, you know," she said as if she knew what he was thinking.
"Yes, no more bullies to haunt me."
"Come to me if you're scared. It's okay."
Yoongi nodded looking into her eyes and smiled in a really sweet way that made her heart thump loudly in her chest.
It's my fate
Don't smile on me
Light on me
because I can't come
There's no name you can call me
