BONUS : REUNION

Josh took a nervous, shaky inhale and raised his fist to the front door of his parents' house.

Tyler raised his eyebrow and looked over at him. "Why aren't you knocking?" He asked, an annoyed tone in his voice.

"I..." Josh looked at his curled hand, frozen in front of the door before him. "I-I can't."

Tyler shifted his look from the door to Josh, then back at the door. He rolled his eyes before pushing Josh's hand away and knocking on the door himself.

"Tyler!" Josh exclaimed. "You can't do that!"

"Why not?" Tyler shot back.

"I-I wasn't ready!" Josh argued, eyes widening as his anxiety grew.

"Well you'll never be ready if you don't—"

The two were suddenly interrupted when the door in front of them swung open.

Tyler and Josh immediately spun around to face the door, rather than each other. Standing before them in the doorway was a short woman with brunette hair and wide, misty eyes.

She didn't even notice Tyler. Her eyes were locked directly on Josh, tears spilling onto her cheeks. Her hand went up to cover her mouth in shock.

Josh opened his mouth to say something, but no words came out. He simply stared at the woman, mouth agape.

"J-Josh?" The woman asked, carefully reaching up and cupping Josh's cheek with her hand.

"Yeah, Mom," Josh whispered. He nodded slightly and smiled. "I-It's me."

As soon as the words left Josh's lips, the woman stood up on her tiptoes and wrapped her arms tightly around Josh's neck. Josh laughed a little a hugged her right back.

His mother. He hadn't seen her, let alone held her, in almost a year.

Tyler stood next to them, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.

"I-I...are...are you...w-what..." Josh's mom pulled out of the hug and wiped the tears from her eyes. "I have a million questions, Joshua. A million!" She laughed and hugged him again. "You're home, you're home."

Josh smiled and held his mother closer.

"Come inside, come inside!" She rushed, ushering Josh through the door and to the living room inside. Tyler quickly followed them, staying as close to Josh as he could.

"Sit down, Josh," his mom continued, pointing to the couch. "Do you want something to drink? I could get you some water. You want some water? How about—"

"I'm fine, Mom," Josh smiled politely as he sat down on the couch. His smile grew as he felt the soft fabric under his fingers, looked around the cozy family room, heard his mother messing around in the kitchen.

He was home.

Tyler still remained standing, looking completely out of place, so Josh grabbed his wrist and lightly pulled him down to sit on the couch next to him. Tyler bounced a little on the cushion, and Josh smiled.

Josh's mom rushed back into the room, carrying two glasses of water. She hastily handed them to Josh and Tyler.

"What happened to you? Where have you been?" She rambled on. It reminded Josh of when he was a child. Her eyes traveled down to Josh's arms, and his heart skipped a beat.

"What are these, Josh?" She asked, wrapping her hand around one of his wrists and pulling him closer.

Josh licked his dry lips and winced. What could he say? He obviously couldn't tell his mom that they were burns the Sinners gave him.

"Mom, I can't—" Josh glanced over at Tyler, but his mother interrupted him.

"The police have been looking all over for you! You went missing!" His mother's tone morphed into anger and worry. "Where have you been?! What are these scars all over your arms? Did he find you?"

She pointed to Tyler, who raised his eyebrows and looked over at Josh.

"Not exactly, Mom..." Josh cringed.

Tyler nonchalantly took a sip of his water and averted his eyes away from Josh.

"Who is this young man?" His mom asked, nodding toward Tyler.

Josh's eyes widened as he scrambled to think of an explanation.

"He's my..." Josh began, nervously biting his bottom lip. "...friend."

Tyler choked on his water.

"Friend?" He asked incredulously, red-faced and coughing. Drops of water from his cup spilled onto the carpet.

Josh panicked when he saw the anger and disbelief flashing through Tyler's eyes.

"B-Boyfriend—" he bumbled, trying to make up a label for whatever he and Tyler actually were.

"Boyfriend?!" His mother exclaimed, staring at Josh in shock as well.

"I-I...uh..." Josh stuttered, looking nervously between his mother and Tyler.

"Lover?" He tried, shrugging his shoulders.

"Josh!"

"Okay, okay!" Josh shouted, holding his hands up defensively. "He's my boyfriend. You...you're okay with that, right Mom?"

Josh's mother eyed Tyler for a moment before slowly smiling.

"You remember what I said when you were younger, Josh," she said gently, putting her hand on Josh's knee. "As long as you're happy, I'm happy."

Josh relaxed his shoulders and sunk back into the couch in relief.

"What's your name?" His mom continued.

Tyler stared off into space for a moment before realized the question was directed toward him.

"Oh," he said, glancing sideways at Josh. How had his mother not recognized him yet? If he said his real name, surely she would put two and two together. "Um—"

Tyler was fortunately interrupted when the front door suddenly swung open, a group of voices breaking the awkward silence.

Four people came into the house, talking and laughing and smiling. Two red-headed girls led the group, with a young man and an older man following.

"Hey Mom, who's car is in the driveway? I don't recognize the—"

The first girl, with long red hair and a nose ring, stopped short once her eyes landed on the person sitting on the couch. The keys she was holding in her hand fell right onto the floor. The girl behind her simply stopped and adjusted her glasses. She didn't believe what she was seeing.

But the boy behind them, the boy with a black shirt and a mop of curly black hair to match, he wasn't silent. As soon as he glanced over his sisters' shoulders, he let out a gasp.

"Josh!" He exclaimed. He pushed past his two sisters and rushed over to Josh. Josh stood up off the couch, and the boy immediately wrapped his arms around him.

Josh was taken aback at the tight hug, but slowly relaxed and wrapped his arms around the boy.

"H-Hey Jordan," Josh said, lightly patting the boy on the back. He tried pulling away, but Jordan just hugged him again.

One of the girls ran up to Josh as well, practically attacking in a group hug. Jordan still wouldn't let go of his older brother.

"Hey Abby—" Josh smiled, but ended up laughing as she jumped up and buried her face in the crook of his neck. Her glasses were knocked off, but she couldn't care less.

The last sibling still stood in the doorway, her hand never leaving the doorknob. She stared wide-eyed at Josh in shock before slowly walking over to him.

Josh was too busy hugging and smiling and laughing with his brother and other sister to notice her at first. But when his eyes finally looked up at met hers, he slowly smiled.

"J-Josh?" The girl stuttered, carefully walking closer to him. She was hesitant, as if she didn't really believe it was actually her brother standing in the living room.

"Ashley," Josh said with a small, said smile.

Ashley laughed and, of course, just had to join in the group hug. All three siblings hugged Josh so tightly and with so much love he stumbled backwards and almost fell.

Tyler looked away to hide his misty eyes. He tried not to think about his siblings, and how long it's been since he's hugged them. Josh hadn't even been away for a year; Tyler had been away for almost five.

He closed his eyes and pictured Zack, Maddy, and Jay, and how he'd give anything to hold them again, not to mention his mother and father.

A single tear slipped down his cheek and dropped onto the carpet.

He squeezed his eyes shut and turned back around to see Josh again.

He was now talking and laughing with the older man who came in after his siblings. His father.

Tyler watched Josh and his family with somewhat of a half smile. He was actually happy for them.

That is, until Josh's father turned around and caught sight of Tyler.

The man's face immediately went pale, and his mouth dropped open.

When Josh saw his dad's shocked expression, he turned round and followed his gaze. His siblings and mother did the same.

All at once, the smiles disappeared. The laughter ceased. Everyone was silent as they stared at Tyler for a long, agonizing moment.

The room was so quiet they could practically hear Tyler's heart thumping in his chest.

"Josh..." his dad began, shakily raising his finger and pointing it at Tyler. "Please tell me that Tyler Joseph isn't sitting on our couch, in our living room. Please tell me that he just really, really looks like him."

Josh covered his face with his hands.

Busted. Exposed. This was it. It was over. His father was going to call the police, turn Tyler in, and it would be over.

"You can't tell anyone, Dad—" josh began, but it was futile. How the fuck could he explain this?

His father's pale face quickly turned red with anger.

"How could you do this, Josh?!" He yelled, gesturing wildly to Tyler with his hands. "How could you bring him here?! He's going to kill us all!"

Tyler chewed on his bottom lip and looked down to hide the furious blush on his cheeks, like an embarrassed child.

"He's not like that, Dad!" Josh argued. "He's—"

"He's what, Josh?!" His dad shouted. "He's what? Oh, I'll answer that! He's a cold-blooded killer that's murdered dozens of innocent people!"

Tyler averted his eyes, twisting his mouth and putting his hand on his forehead.

Josh rushed over to the couch and sat down next to Tyler.

"Remember to breathe, Tyler," Josh murmured, rubbing circles into Tyler's back. "Take a breath."

The last thing Josh wanted was for Tyler to snap because of anxiety and do something he would regret.

"Oh, oh," Josh's father shook his head in disbelief. "You're not serious, Josh. Don't tell me you're serious."

Josh winced and slowly looked up at his family.

"You guys are together?" Ashley piped up, her eyes sparkling.

"He's practically famous!" Jordan laughed, smiling at his brother.

"More like infamous!" Their dad exclaimed. "Don't encourage this!"

"He's not that bad, Dad," Josh murmured, scooting closer to Tyler. "He's saved my life, multiple times."

"And he could take it just as quickly!" His dad scoffed in disbelief. "Who knows how many people has he killed!"

Josh bit his lip and leaned down to Tyler, who had his head down in embarrassment.

"Kill count, Tyler?" Josh whispered quickly.

Tyler waited a moment before responding.

"I've lost count," Tyler mumbled miserably. Josh's father was making him feel worse than he already did.

"Are you guys hearing this?!" Josh's dad exclaimed, slapping his hand to his forehead. "This is ridiculous! We can't let our son date a murderer!"

"What choice do we have, Bill?" Josh's mother asked, putting her hand gently on her husband arm. "If we call the police, they'll turn in Josh too, and all of us for harboring a criminal. As long as he's safe, I don't see a pr—"

"How do you not see a problem?!" He continued. "This is definitely a problem!"

"I think it's cool," Ashley said, crossing her arms.

"Me too!" Abigail rushed, putting her arm around her sister's shoulder. "I'm happy for Josh!"

"I'm just happy he's home," Jordan said quietly, the corner of his lips pulling up into a half smile. He looked almost exactly like his older brother when he did that.

"Like I said," Josh's mom said matter-of-factly. "As long as Josh is happy, I'm happy."

His dad, on the other hand, scoffed in disbelief.

"Am I the only sane person in this family?!" He shouted, putting his hands on either side of his face.

"Apparently," his wife replied, patting him on the shoulder. She put her arm around him, but turned her attention to Josh and Tyler.

"Tyler, you're welcome to stay for dinner," she said warmly. "And feel free to call me Momma Dun, if you'd like."
