39. Soccer Shocker
The faint sunrays pouring through the window woke me up. Avinash was sprawled across Mia's bed mouth, his lips slightly parted with Brute huddled at his feet. His chest rose and fell in perfect rhythm while he snored mildy. The blanket tangled around his torso. I couldn't fight the urge of storing this image of him forever. I picked up my phone, which lied beside my pillow and focused the camera on Avi. The shutter clicked when I captured him in my phone.
"It is illegal to take someones's pictures without seeking their permission." Avinash murmured, his eyes still closed.
"I was taking a picture of Brute," I lied, blushing profusely.
His lips stretched into a smile as he opened his eyes and lifted himself up.
"Urrghh," he groaned rubbing his forehead, "I hate hangovers."
"Here, take one." I threw a strip of Brufen to him. He tore out a capsule and swallowed it with a mouthful of water.
"Thank you not just for this," he said holding up the pain killer strip, "but for everything. You do have pretty great friends." He smiled at me.
"So do you." I said truthfully, "Even though you will get the I-told-you-so from all of them, but they will forgive you." He agreed with me.
Avinash left to change for breakfast, while I called up my parents and spoke to them for a while.
I went down to the cafeteria after taking a quick shower and changing into a fresh pair of clothes. Avinash was already there, sitting with Mandy and Natasha.
I walked up to the counter grabbing a pair of chicken and corn sandwich and joined them, sitting on the empty seat beside Avinash.
"We may have a plan to get rid of those videos." Mandy said as I took a bite of the sandwich, savoring the taste of fresh bread intertwined with chicken, cheese and Italian herbs.
"I am all ears." I said with a mouthful of food. "Oops sorry." I apologized noticing Natasha grimace at my lack of manners.
"Well, I have told Akshay that I and Mandy wish to resume practice." Avinash informed, "He will be keeping his phone with his clothes on a chair like always. You two," he moved his finger between me and Natasha, "will have to crack the password and delete the video, while we keep him engaged in the game."
"What if Damini decides to show up." I pointed out an aspect which they had obviously overlooked.
"Don't worry," Natasha said after mulling over it for a while, "I will handle her."
"Game on!" Mandy said holding his fist in the air face-down. We rolled our eyes before fist punching him.
"Heyyyyyy baby," I felt nauseous hearing that squeal, "I missed you so much yesterday." Damini swooped down kissing Avinash on his cheeks.
"Hi Mini," Avinash acted as if he knew nothing about her last evening's escapade.
"Baby you didn't call me for breakfast." Dumbini pouted at Avinash.
"I did Mini," he lied "but your phone was not reachable."
"Aww," She pulled Avi's cheek.
"See you at practice Avi." Mandy wanted to get out of there.
I could understand how he felt. Damini did not have even an iota of remorse. She surely must be excelling Art of Deception.
"I will come with you." Avinash stood up.
"What practice?" Dumbini squeaked.
"Oh! Since Akshay...is back, we are starting our soccer practice from today." Avinash informed her, pausing to see how she would react to Akshay's name. However, her face didn't reflect anything.
"Greeeaaat," she clapped her hands, "I will come with you then." Mandy rolled his eyes at the bimbo's pretentiousness.
Natasha got up and walked to the coffee vending machine, I followed her, not wanting to be anywhere around the slut.
"Coffee anyone?" Natasha called as she filled a paper cup with coffee placing a plastic lid over it. "Helps in reducing headache," She said smiling wickedly. Mandy snickered at her joke.
"I could do with one." Avinash got the cue as he walked up to Natasha grabbing the cup she offered.
"Are you sure you can handle Natasha?" Avinash muttered while he pretended to take sugar cubes. Damini was still standing at our table, out of earshot.
"Absolutely," Natasha murmured, trying not to move her lips. "We are doing it today right?"
Avinash gave her a slight nod, before walking back to the table with a cup of coffee for Damini and himself.
"Here," Natasha offered me a cup of brewing coffee.
"I don't drink coffee." I told her. Even though I loved it, but coffee worsened my anxiety disorder.
"Keep it," she insisted, "In case you change your mind." I took the cup, not wanting to disappoint her as she filled two more cups, one for Mandy and one for herself.
Memories of the evening before came flooding back, when we entered the sports building. The silence in the elevator mounted the tension. I wondered how Natasha was planning to execute the plan with Dumbini accompanying us.
The elevator door opened, allowing us to file out. Akshay was already waiting there. His eyes couldn't mask the shock he felt when he saw me.
"Hey Cap, how was your vacation?" Mandy shouted.
"Good Mandy, how was yours?" Akshay smiled at Mandy before he stole a glance at Damini, who was clinging to Avi's arms.
The boys changed and joined Akshay on the indoor football ground while Natasha and I sat ourselves down on the plastic chairs that were scattered between the football ground and changing room.
Just like Avi had predicted Akshay's phone was right on top of his spare clothes, huddled in a plastic chair. I had consciously chosen the chair next to the one that belonged to Akshay's accouterments.
Natasha plopped down on the chair next to mine. Damini flashed us her pretentious smile, before perching on the chair next to Natasha. Damini started to cheer Avinash, making me wonder how someone could be that amazing an actor.
"Are you seriously not going to drink it Naxi?" Natasha scowled at me. I was still holding the cup of coffee, trying my best to resist the aroma of coffee blended with whitener, that pulled at my nostrils.
"Pretty sure." I said sadly, "It has turned cold as well, I should just throw it."
"No, I will have it." Natasha extended her hand for me to hand over the cup.
"Natasha it's not even warm anymore," I tried to make her understand.
"Doesn't matter," She said stubbornly.
"Fine" I handed her the cup and in a swift motion Natasha removed the lid and threw its contents at Damini.
"OOOOOH MY GAWWWD...WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING." Damini screamed. The brown stain of coffee was spreading across her white woolen turtleneck, while she wrung her hands in frustation.
"Oh Damini...I am so so sorry." Natasha covered her mouth with her hand, her eyes feigning guilt. "Here let me help you," she moved forward pulling out her handkerchief.
"Nooo THANK YOU," Damini glared at Natasha. Natasha pouted her lips, making a puppy face.
"I am sorry Damini. It is all Naxi's fault." Natasha whined. "She was trying to take away my coffee that is why I had to lean back. The lid was probably not fixed properly, and...swoooosh, it all fell down on you."
"Hey what is going on?" The three boys jogged towards us, Mandy looking at Damini with fake concern.
"Natasha splashed coffee on me." Damini said, pretending to be on the verge of tears.
"She did not." Mandy gasped, his eyes widening in fake surprise, "How could you be so clumsy Natasha?" Damnnn, he was in this too. "This is why I tell you to stay away from Naxi." Mandy huffed. "Look what you have done." He pretended to glare at his girlfriend.
"Damini, sweety are you okay?" Avinash came up to stand beside her, eyes feigning concern.
Mandy pressed his lips trying not to smile.
"Mandy, I am not going to accept this kind of behavior." Avi scowled at Mandy, "Tell your girlfriend to apologize to Damini."
"I am soooo sooorryyyy Damini." Natasha whined before Mandy could say anything.
"Its ok." Damini irritatedly dismissed her.
"Baby, why don't you go and change," Avinash told Damini, "I will finish this off, and we can spend some quality time." He gave her the lopsided grin.
"Okkk babbyyy," Damini squealed in excitement.
"Ok boys," Akshay clapped his hands "let's get back to practice." Mandy and Avi secretly high fived, once Damini disappeared behind the elevator doors.
The first part of the plan had been executed. Now all I needed to do was delete the video.
I snatched Akshay's phone from the chair. His phone indeed was password protected. Thanks to Mentor Rohit, I knew how to by-pass it. I had to scroll a down a bit before the video of me retching appeared. I deleted it immediately.
"Check the share details?" Natasha whispered.
I entered the algorithm that revealed the details of media-files shared from the phone.
Most of the 'sent media' contained pictures of Akshay's phallus, which he had sent to Damini. I scrolled down till June, just to be sure, but it seemed he had only shared my video with Damini and no one else. I sighed in relief.
Closing all the windows I had opened on his phone, I locked the screen and put the phone back.
"One down, One to go." I murmured to Natasha giving her a swift high five.
