Chapter 4
The next day...
Leo, Runa and the five chao were now at the Royal Guardians HQ sitting around the meeting table. Runa had asked him something about the Royal Guardians because the name and purpose reminded her of something she felt like she had experienced before, but she couldn't remember quite clearly. She had seen how Leo and Clifton spar at each other before asking him how the group was created.
After Leo explained the history given to him by his father and his adventures as the leader of the new Royal Guardians, he concluded, "And that, my friend, is how the generations of the Royal Guardians defend not just the Leone Kingdom, but to other kingdoms built across the lands."
Runa's eyes were filled with sparkles. Not only that, but an amazed expression was plastered across her face. Same goes with the other chao. But the ones with the most amazed expressions were Bearace, Juniper and Shania.
"Woah," Runa said in awe.
"Chao-chao," the five chao said in awe.
"Yes. And now, we, the current Royal Guardians have their own specific roles, which causes us to separate, but that doesn't mean we have to feel lonely because they'll always be in our hearts. Unfortunately, Rover and Intellizo were the only ones not having specific roles yet. But either way, I'm sure they'll figure things out themselves," explained Leo.
Then, a thought about helping heroes defend the world had crossed Runa's mind. At this point, an idea suddenly popped into her head.
"Well, in that case," she said curiously.
"Yes?" asked Leo, smiling at her.
"Do you think you and Lariel will train me to be the Royal Guardian?" asked Runa.
Leo let out a chuckle in response. "Really? Are you sure you can take difficult challenges and situations?"
"Yeah. I'm sure of it," she said with a determined smile on her face.
That's when the three chao swooped on both of Runa's sides. Bearace and Shania on her right and Juniper on her left.
"Chao-chao-chao!" Bearace said determinedly with his arms on his hips.
"Chao-chao!" said Juniper determinedly.
"Chao-chao!" said Shania determinedly.
Runa let out a light chuckle in response. "They said they wanted to train as well. Don't worry. They seem like defensive types of chao."
The three chao nodded in response.
"Very well, then," said Leo, then he turned his head to Rosy and Mystico. "How about you, Rosy and Mystico?"
"Choo-choo, choo-choo!" said Rosy innocently.
"She said she just can't stand violence," said Runa. "We'll know if she's naturally ready to defend."
"Chao-chao," said Mystico laying his arm on Rosy's shoulder.
"And Mystico will keep her company," Runa translated.
"Very well," said Leo. "Now, shall we watch the training demonstration?"
Runa nodded in response. "We shall."
In the training yard...
Leo and Clifton were seen sparring with each other with their own lances in their right hands. Clifton's small lance was given to him by Solenan to make him more comfortable in using it. Farther ahead was Lariel practicing her ways with the small sword.
As the hedgehog family and the five chao were watching the training demonstration, Aleyah decided to make a compliment only her family could hear. "Wow. They're really good."
"Indeed, they are. I wish there's something like this in our land," said Pearla.
She could feel a nudge on her right shoulder. Her eyes turned to see Bruce nudging her with his elbow.
"Of course, there are, dear! Sonic the Hedgehog, Tails the Two-Tailed Fox, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose!" he said, setting an example with an obvious smirk on his face.
"I know, honey. But haven't you seen some medieval elements in our land?" asked Pearla.
"Chao-chao-chao-chao," said Mystico.
"Mystico's right, mom. There's one time when Sonic the Hedgehog was transported into a medieval dimension called 'Camelot,'" stated Runa.
"Really?" both Pearla and Bruce asked in unison.
"Chao-chao," Mystico nodded in response.
After training, it was time for the Royal Guardians to take a break. Bruce and Pearla were seen playing with the five chao in the gardens.
Both Lariel and Leo were seen taking a few gulps of water in their own cups. For some reason, apart from knowing they'll be there for each other, they felt... kinda lonely. This brought Runa into concern as she saw how the two took a break by drinking water. Sure, it's pretty obvious, but she felt like they needed some company.
And so, Runa headed over to their direction. Then, she removed her backpack and sat beside Leo. With her bag on the other side.
"I just thought you two might need company," she said to them.
"Thanks, Runa," replied Leo.
"Yeah, thanks," replied Lariel.
After a few moments of silence, Runa pulled out her cassette from her bag. You see, in her inventory, she has two cassettes. The first one was navy blue with its secondary color being black while the second one happened to be dark magenta with its secondary color also being black. The cassette she had pulled out was the magenta one.
She placed the cassette on her lap and pulled out her black, rolled earphones and started untangling them. That's when she plugged her earphones to the cassette and put her earphones in her ears according to the labels saying which ear she should put an earphone.
She turned the cassette on, put it in her opened backpack and listened to music.
Leo and Lariel, noticing how Runa listens to music, were brought with curiosity since they've never seen something like this. Most especially Leo because he had never encountered technology like this before.
"I'm assuming you're listening to music?" asked Lariel.
Runa slightly turned her head to the two lions and nodded in response. "Have you?"
"Of course, but I only listen to traditional and local songs here in the Leone Kingdom," said Leo.
"And I heard songs from the radio before I got here in this land," said Lariel.
"But we've never heard music from what you had just pulled out before," added Leo.
"It's called a cassette," said Runa. "Well, I wish I could let you both hear it, but I have to pick one because I want to listen as well."
"You can pick Leo. I had experienced music with something like technology before," said Lariel.
"Plus, there's never been technology in these lands and I'm not sure why," said Leo.
After a few moments, Runa removed an earphone from her right ear and handed it to Leo. Leo placed the earphone on his right allowing him to listen to music.
The sound of music started to flow in her right ear. Hearing this made it relaxing. A smile appeared on his face as he closed his eyes enjoying the music. You can hear the tapping on his right foot as the process of the current song continues.
"You seem to enjoy it, Leo," said Lariel smiling at him.
Leo's eyes opened turning his head to Lariel with a smile on his face. "I do," he replied to her. "It reminds me of how I wished to hear the same traditional songs over and over again when I was a cub."
A giggle escaped from Lariel's mouth as Leo went back to enjoying music with Runa. Runa's lips stretched out a smile on her face seeing how he enjoyed it.
While Runa was keeping the two lions company, Clifton started exploring the gardens at the back of the castle with Aleyah keeping him company. This was because Aleyah had permission to keep him safe from something called "The Underworld." Right through the cell at the back of the castle.
While Clifton was running around the backyard, right behind the bushes beside the gate to the Underworld... was something unusual.
It was something that looked like a black-colored hard drive except that it's made of multiple wires inside and there are two tiny circular lightbulbs placed on the front-left corner. On the left was a red light glowing brightly while beside it was a green light. But unlike the red light, it was not glowing at all.
As Clifton examined the features of an unusual technological thing, Aleyah approached him from behind.
"You found a WiFi Server Box?" asked Aleyah.
Clifton turned to her in confusion, "What's a WiFi Server Box?"
He's asking this because he's never seen anything like this nor anything technological. But the only technological things he has heard about were Eggman's robots and badniks.
"A WiFi Server Box creates a server that listens for incoming connections on the specified port. In other words, when you have a cellphone, you'll be able to do whatever you want with the internet," explained Aleyah.
"What server? What's a cellphone? What do you mean 'internet?'" asked Clifton still in confusion.
But then, he noticed the switch beside the two tiny light bulbs. The off switch is currently landed flat. That brought him to curiosity because again, he's never seen technology before.
"Hey, what does this do?" he asked curiously as his right index finger reached to turn it on.
"No, no-no," a new voice joined in.
But it's too late. The WiFi Server Box was already turned on. But whywould a certain someone stop Clifton from turning it on?
