❦ Chapter Nine ❦

It has been hours since everyone had arrived and got settled into their new rooms for the year of school.
Then the school's PSA system popped on with a few dings before the voice of the headmistress came on. "Greetings students, please make your way to the auditorium in ten minutes for the assembly. Thank you."

Sidney got off her bed and walked over to the door. She placed her hand on the knot and turned it, pulling it open. She walked out followed by Yasmin and Amelia, who walked down the steps and walked towards the common area.

Witty gave her a friendly smile as he walked over to her. "Hey," He greeted, walking with the group of girls. "Oh, these must be your roommates and the other scholarship winners." He waved at them pushing up his round glasses

Sidney gave a curt but awkward wave back. "Hey, Witty," She greeted, glancing back at her two roommates. "Yes, Yasmin Sersanto and Amelia Costly," She introduced the two girls, motioning to each of them. "I'm Sidney Barnes," She waved too the two boys beside Witty.

"Well, it's a pleasing ladies, I'm Witty Moss, this is Nathaniel Hewitt and Michael Keenan." He introduced his roommates by stuffing his hands into the pockets of his hoodie.

Nate pushed his feathery brown hair off to the side creating a slight bang off to the left, not only that but messing it up. "Hiya! It is so nice to meet you! I am more than excited for this school year and I know that we will not disappoint anyone!" His jade green eyes shined brightly behind rectangular glasses.

Michael stuffed his hat over his curly black hair and gave a nod. "Nice to meet you too. Is anyone else nervous? I am super nervous. I'm nervous beyond being nervous since there is no word for that. You could say being nervous is an understatement because that would even be an understatement." He rambled nervously as his baby blue eyes darted around.

Sidney nodded, pushing her hair to her back. "Very nervous, Michael. I mean why wouldn't we be nervous? Were from a common background, never been around royals and nobles . . . completely out of out element." She gripped her crossed arms almost hugging herself.

Dree snorted as she walked past Sidney, hearing the latter of her words. "The biggest understatement of the century." She scoffed, placing her hand on her hip. "Why don't you take that as a warning and just go ahead and save the trouble of humiliation and leave?"

Yasmin glared at Dree, her blood begging to boil. "Ignore her, she's just trying to get to us. Heaven forbid we manage to graduate as mere commoners and not flunk like royals or nobles."

Mia stopped in her tracks when she heard Yasmin. "Some who have been training their whole life as royalty and nobility flunk out and have to redo it again the next year. It isn't even guaranteed even for us." She asked, hoping they'd think long and hard about her words.

All eyes were on Mia and quizzical expressions were on the scholarship winners' faces.

"Why are you telling us this?" Witty asked skeptically, his eyes shifting between his fellow scholarship winners. "You don't care about us."

Mia understood where he was coming from. "Just think about it. Promise me you'll think about it?" She asked again, her voice flat as her eyes searched their faces.

Thea's voice cut through the air, preventing the scholarship winners from answering Mia. "Come on Mia, we got to get a good seat and stop fraternizing with them, we're better than that." She impatiently explained, her eyes beckoning the dark-haired girl.

Mia glanced over at Thea and looked back at the scholarship winners. "Think of what I said as food for thought." She warned, turning on her heels and walking over to Thea before going into the auditorium.

Witty furrowed his brows as he watched Mia walk away. "That was odd," He mused, turning to watch the emotionless girl disappear out of sight. "Sidney bumped into Thea and let's just say she isn't friendly or even nice."

Sidney nodded, twisting the bow strings against her chest between her fingers. "Besides her, another girl - that sorta looked like the first girl who passed us just moments ago - thought I was the bellhop and was late to take her stuff up to her room." She closed her eyes tightly as she spoke. "I am a little scared to see how she will react to seeing I am a scholarship winner."

Witty pushed up his glasses with his finger. "Let's just focus on surviving this week. It is best to take it step by step. We have to find our way to survive."

Yasmin nodded, grabbing the door to the auditorium and holding it up for the group of scholarship winners to walk through. "We didn't get lost, now let's get in, find a seat, and focus on what is gonna be said tonight." She sat down in a row of empty seats.

Alexander gave a sympathetic look to everyone in the room, he was that young boy years ago but in school not here. "Look at all these kids, they look bored. Don't blame them. This stuff is boring. I would die of boredom if I wasn't the headmaster." He groaned in a soft voice, getting ready to cross his arms but letting them fall back to his side when Katherine made a sound.

Devona rolled her eyes looking at her husband, yet keeping a smile on her lips hoping to not draw attention to them. "Alexander, you are a prime example for the young men here." She mentioned, brushing her hand against his for a brief moment.

She walked up to the microphone, she then fixed it by moving it down to where her mouth was level with the microphone. "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. We welcome you to The Royal Charm Academy." She announced on the microphone to everyone in the auditorium.

Alexander walked beside his wife and cleared his throat, looking over everyone in the room. "For future references, we don't need another incident like what happened last year - Kingdom of Peladia we are looking at you." He mumbled the last part with a cough. "You have to be on time for each class. If you are not on time you will get an F, which I am sure none of your parents would be happy about -"

Devona cut him off since she knew where it was going and the Duchess was giving her off looks. "After five strikes of going against the rules or being late to class you get expelled from this academy."

Alexander coughed, covering his mouth up with his fisted hand. "If any of you fail your classes and don't meet the criteria to pass, you will have to retake the whole school year again next year: you'll be held back. We couldn't want that, now would we?" He asked as the crowd murmured a no in unison.

Devona's eyes swept over the room, everyone still seemed to be focused on her. "We will introduce your teachers this year. Your music teacher: Stephanie Gina. Your singing instructor: Miles Jordan. Your Equestrian Instructor: Millie Vista. Your Polo Coach: Gregory Blue. Duchess Katherine, Alexander, and I will be doing the art of dancing and poise and grace since your dancing instructor is ill. Your social graces teacher: Kano Fuji. Your politics and diplomacy teacher: Ijin Gong. Your economics teacher: Rajkumar Khan." She explained, motioning to the teachers who stood on stage and waved.

Alexander looked over at his wife and continued to smile. "We all know you won't be good in one day, so no pressure. Now please don't get upset if someone is better than you, I simply means they have had more practice or are natural at it! I didn't learn to tie in my shoes until I was eleven. Funny story, I -"

Devona cut him off to keep him from rambling. "All we wish is that you will do nothing but your best. Take it slow and don't focus too hard on something that you can't get. Take a step back, breathe and move onto something else, then come back to it." It was something she had to learn as a young child the hard way, and she was glad for it.

Alexander let out a soft huff of air, seeing the duchess glare at him again. He turned to the room and smiled brightly. "We urge you, if you have any trouble this year please don't hesitate to come to us. As people in authority, we are here to make sure you succeed in your life." He gently told the kids.

Devona rested her hands in front of her skirt laced together. "Never think you are weak or shameful for asking for help, it is one of the most humble things one can do." She offered a soft smile as she spoke, her eyes landing on the scholarship winners.

Alexander rubbed the back of his neck, his collar bothering him. "Please no calls during the classes since your phones should remain in your rooms. No talking either since we want your full attention on the teacher who is teaching you."

Devona glanced over at her husband, pleased he had brought that up before she had a chance too. "You will get two half-hours of free time to do whatever you want excluding your meals. After supper, you will have free reign to do whatever you want until bedtime when you will be in your rooms before curfew."

Alexander took a deep breath, fighting with his cufflinks as he was getting an annoyed look from Katherine. "Now we will let Duchess Katherine say a few words." He stepped back to where he had been before they came up to speak, followed by his wife who stood beside him.

Katherine faced the sets, smiling brightly at everyone in the room, giving a small wave. "Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I am honored to be here and stand in front of you on this glorious evening. I do hope your day has been well and you have settled into your rooms quite well I assume?" She asked as everyone nodded, causing her to smile.

She clapped her hands together as her eyes swept the auditorium. "Good, you will be staying there until the end of the school year. I am sure you may get homesick but you can regularly video chat and call your family." She placed her hand on her heart.

She looked around the room, then glanced at her daughter who was looking at her nails. "Now, here is a piece of advice that I was given when I was your age; my mother always said before she passed "if you want to succeed in life, do as your teachers tell you and not what you want to do." that has always stuck with me and is a marvelous piece of advice. I do hope you always remember that throughout this year."

She fixed the microphone since it kept falling, not wanting to stay in its place. "I will cut this short since most of you must be exhausted from your long travels. Please remember we want to make all of you feel welcome and loved very much. This is your home and we are your temporary family." She declared, inwardly cringing at her words. "Have a good night and you are dismissed." She turned around on her heels and walked off.

Devona motioned for Alexander to stay beside her and walk to the doors, to see them out of the auditorium. "She gave a very moving speech, it would be better if she truly believed her words."

Alexander looked around quickly before pressing a kiss on her cheek when no one was watching. "Who knows she may end up changing this year." His tone tried to be encouraging to his wife.

Devona smiled softly at him, turning to him at the doors. "One can hope." She sighed softly, nodding and watching as everyone soon filed out of the auditorium and back to their rooms.

A/N:
Ah, sorry this is late. My mom has been annoying with not letting me in my phone as much as I can to write. So, I have been kinda slacking, not meaning too. I also have been working on some of my other books too, just trying to get characters up and everything ready.

Out of this whole month, only two of my book including this one had been updated. I feel really bad about that, and I hope next month will be better for me to write up some more. I am going to get at least one book completed by the end of this year if it is the last thing I do.

However I am looking for a job, so that may also give me less time to write but I will do my best to write as much as I can when I can! I don't know if it will be part time or full time, so it depends on that how much time I do get to work on my books. However I can't get one until our vehicle is actually fixed.

I should start bringing my notebook and writing things down when I am not allowed on my phone. Just the dialogue down and anything else I can get up later, but it is that I need to do more. I have a lot of good ones bouncing around in my head I need to get onto paper.

Chapter Talk:
Can we just admit Alexander and Devona are #CoupleGoals ? I mean they are so adorable! They are what I aspire for my relationship, if I ever get into one that is. Even though he has a lot of remarks, she doesn't get bothered and sometimes finds them funny. She just doesn't want the duchess to know about his comments.

The scholarship winners will stick together through this whole school year. Yes the main focus will be on them, but you will get to see more of Thea and the other royals, not just them. Yes Sidney may have some more chapters than the others, but I have a good reason for that which you will find out.

Thanks for reading!
