Kimani's POV:
~another month later~
I open my eyes to find my phone blowing up with notifications.
From Twitter,Instagram & Snapchat..
There's videos of Penelope & Jack smiling holding hands.
I stare at the picture long enough for a single tear to roll down my cheek.
It stings & my eyes feel watery.
I see them all happy & they love each other.
Jack may say what he says..but I see him kissing her.
It's not just a "arranged marriage".
Maybe he actually liked her after all..
Maybe I wasn't suppose to be after all..
I throw my phone across the room & I cover myself in the sheets.
"I'm sorry little one..that your probably feeling mommy cry & me suffering" I say sniffling
"Its not my fault." I add..
~meanwhile~
Penelope's POV:
They take pictures of us & I feel empty in his arms.
I don't love him.
I may have had a crush on him many years ago..
But it's all gone.
I'm in love with someone else..
It's bad to hide my feelings like this..
But either which way..we can't cancel this wedding.
I'll be married off to someone else then..
Jack seems happy about us being together now.
I look up at the palace & I guess Kimani left her curtains open.
I see her still in bed.
I sigh loudly
"What's wrong?" Jack asks me wrapping his arms around me.
"Nothing..I have to go inside" I say & I rush inside.
I try to open her door & it's locked shut.
"Mani please open the door bestie. What's wrong?" I say to her from outside the door.
"You can talk to me..if anything's bothering you..tell me." She says
-meanwhile-
Kimani's POV:
I hear her banging & her soft voice from the door.
I raised my head from my silky sheets & I looked over at the mirror.
I had red puffy eyes & I stared far too long into the mirror.
I started crying loudly on the floor & she must've heard me...because I see my door fly open.
She hugs me tightly & rubs my back
"What's wrong?" She asks me again
"Penelope..what would you do..if you saw someone you loved happy with someone else?" I ask as I'm wiping my own tears.
"I would be depressed for sure..but I would tell the person about my feelings. If he doesn't want to hear it..then you shouldn't even bother yourself with a jerk like that." She says
I nod & she looks at me
"Are you upset with me?" She asks me
"Why would I be upset with you?" I tell her as I look again the mirror.
"Because I'm gonna get married soon & I know you still love Jack." She says
"It's too late Penelope. It's far too late for me & Jack to get back together. You guys are gonna get married & I'm forbidden from being alone with him.." I say frowning
I play with my long hair & she looks at me
"Yes you can still..Mani I'm not in love with Jack. You know that right?" She says
"Idk what to know or believe anymore.." I say
"But you can trust me Mani..the last thing I wanna do is..hurt you my only true friend." She says frowning
She hugs me & I take it as a sign of her promising it to me.
~after a while~
I'm scrolling through my Instagram & I see many girls with haircuts.
Some very short & some mid length.
"Are you okay?" I hear from my door & I see Penelope in casual clothing
"Yes" I say smiling a bit
"Are you hungry?" She asks me
"No." I say
"Mani..you haven't eaten at all today. I'm worried. Think about the baby please" she says
"Alright see you at dinner.." I say giggling & she cheers.
She leaves my room & I sit in the chair beside the vanity.
I move the chair closer to the vanity itself & I grab scissors from the bathroom.
I start snipping my hair slowly by slowly.
~after a while~
I look at my new styled mid length haircut & I love it.
I put on lipstick & eyeliner.
I get dressed in a regular casual dress & I walk down the stairs.
Everyone stares at me in awe & even Jack's mother compliments me.
"My dear...you look exquisite." She says looking at both my outfit & my haircut.
Penelope gasps seeing my haircut & plays with my freshly cut hair.
I see Jack from the distance struggling to compose himself.
I smirk to myself & I sit down in one of the chairs.
~after dinner~
I walk outside with a full glass of wine in my hand.
The fall air hits my face & I smile
I take a sip & I hear from behind me the doors close.
I see Jack walking towards me.
I roll my eyes & he gets close to me.
I can feel his breath on my neck & his hands are wandering around my body.
I stop him by placing my hands over his & holding them down.
I push them away & I cross my arms
"Must you act like a miscreant?" I say sticking my tongue out at him
"Miscreant? Stay any longer & you'll sound like a debutante lady." He says giggling
I mock him & move away from him
"Mani..you look absolutely stunning." He says & I freeze in my steps.
I turn around to see him smirking & I walk back over to him.
"Listen your due to be married soon. I cannot be with you." I say & as I'm about to walk away.
He grabs my hand & pulls me into his arms.
His arms wrapped around my waist snugly & his lips a centimeter apart from mines.
The wind whistles & I look up to see a full moon.
"Well..a full moon. What do you know?" I say smiling
"Mani..one last kiss?" He asks leaning in & I push him away.
"No." I say simply & I walk away leaving him there standing by himself.
I think this haircut gave me newfound confidence.

{~Still got the flowers that you sent..and the note you wrote that said we were meant to be forever..I keep them all as evidence..in a drawer under the mirror...filled with empty promises..I don't know why..I keep letting you lie to me..hard as I try..it seems I can't break away..I thought that you would be the hero..Come & save the day..but you're a villain..your sins unforgiven..I'm going down..and you have watched me drown..in a river of tears..lost beneath the stream..under the waves..I've found the strength to say..the river of tears has washed me clean..go 'head & wish me well..I'll cry a wishing well..I'll fly before I fail..I'll set sail & drift away..so i won't need you here..love sinks & hope floats..in a river of tears..in a river of tears~}
