FENRIS

I am flipping the pancake carefully making sure that it becomes golden brown and doesn't burn when Sierra's loud scream echoes in the house. Her thought projections are all chaotic and I can sense only panic and fear.

Almost throwing the pan in my hands, I quickly shut the burner and climb up the stairs two at a time to our pup's room from where I can hear my mate's chaotic thoughts. Throwing open the door, I look around for threats but find none. Sierra's gaze is wild with fear and tears are running down her cheeks as she stares at the crib in which our new born is sleeping soundly.

"What's wrong," I whisper walking towards her and wiping away her tears, not wanting to wake up the pup. She's too sensitive to even the smallest of sounds.

"She's not here. She wasn't there when I came in here to check in on her," my mate screams, waking up our daughter who immediately starts crying.

"She's here, Sierra. She's in the crib," I pick up our little Kotyonok and take her to Sierra who's staring at me as if I've gone crazy.

"Look at her, Sierra. She's fine and she's crying."

"Shhh, Malyshka," I pet our baby girl, settling her in the crook of my arms so that she goes back to sleep.

"I can't see her, Fenris. Am I blind? But I can see you. What the..."

"Shhh, Sierra. She's fine. Let me put her to bed and we'll talk outside, okay?"

"Yes. No. What's wrong with me? Are you teasing me? Where's my baby!" She's hysterical now which amuses me as well as troubles me. I quickly put the pup in her crib and steer Sierra out into the living room.

"What's wrong with me?" she whisper-shouts and I pull her into my arms, trying to soothe her and thinking of how to break this news to her. Looks like our pup is more witch than wolf.

"Nothing is wrong with her. I think she has some more witch-powers," I say softly straightening her bed hair and then twirling them around my fingers. I hope this distracts her.

"WHAT!"

"Calm down. Let's sit." I sit down and pull her into my lap where she continues to be stiff, still shocked.

"But I thought she only had the gift of hiding her scent," she sobs now and I can't help but pull her closer where she buries her head in my chest.

"No. I think she can hide herself from other people. It looks like her witch powers are growing and slipping out when she's sleeping," I try to explain.

"What? How is this possible. Witch powers are hereditary, aren't they?" she asks, tilting her face up to look into my eyes and I find myself nervous. She never knew about my invisibility skills.

Taking a deep breath, I kiss her forehead once to gather more willpower and softly disclose the information.

"Yes, baby they are hereditary. I once had the gift of being invisible for short periods of time," I say, cringing at the way her eyes narrow and her lips flatten in irritation.

One thing I've learnt about my mate is that she doesn't like to be kept out of the loop and this information is surely going to get me in trouble.

"So, you can be invisible," she says but her statement feels more like a question. her eyes are narrowed and she's thinking it over in her head. She's blocking me, I can feel that and now to my disbelief she slips from my lap and stands up, walking towards the fireplace where she stands staring into the ashes.

"Yes, but I can't anymore. The witch, Kestrel when she burned me, I lost some of my powers while healing and ever since then I haven't been able to use those powers. They are gone," I explain, walking behind her reaching out to her both on the mental path and physically. This distance feels too much.

She turns to look at me just when I am about to pull her in my arms and instead her hands rise to stop me from hugging her.

"What other gifts do you have?" she asks but her voice is too soft, too quiet as if she's restraining herself. She probably is. It has almost been a year since we first met and we'll be celebrating our claiming anniversary in the next few months and I failed to tell her such an important thing about myself.

I failed again.

"I could make a soundproof bubble but not that perfectly. I lost two gifts that time. Please don't walk out on me," I say when she turns to walk out of the house.

"How can you do this to me, Fenris? For a moment there I thought I lost our baby girl. You just walked in and saw her despite of her being invisible. How can I be a good mother to her when I can't even see her," she cries so I quickly walk up to her and pull her in for a hug, comforting her where she starts sobbing uncontrollably.

"I'll be there with you and you are not a bad mother, baby. You are the best mother our pup could ever hope for," I say into her hair, rubbing my hands over her back in a soothing gesture.

"But I am not a witch. I can't see her when she's invisible," she argues and then her lips tremble as if she's trying to control her tears.

"No, you can see her when you fully merge with me. Whenever she goes invisible, you can merge your mind with mine fully and see her. You are my mate, baby. I can share my powers with you," I explain.

"What if I take her out to play or to the market and she goes invisible there? What will I do then?" she cries putting her head in her hands and continues to sob.

Fuck! This is not how I wanted to wake her up today.

"Babe. She'll control her skills as she grows older and we can always teach her to control her powers. We can talk to her on the mental path which doesn't get affected by this skill. You can contact her when she's invisible. I won't let anyone of you out of my sight. I'll always be with you and she'll always be with us, okay?" I ask.

"Are you sure?" she asks, making a meal out of her bottom lip as she chews on it viciously.

"I promise you, my love," I whisper over her lips and then kiss her, pulling at her lips and sucking on them. She tastes better every day and I feel our bond growing stronger.

"I need to eat, Fenris and you need to make me breakfast in bed," she says shyly.

"Then take your ass back to the bed and don't get out of it. There's a baby monitor in there for a reason," I peck her once again on the lips just because I can't resist sipping on her lips. She leans into me and we continue to kiss when her stomach growls loudly reminding me to feed my mate.
