Chapter 27: Confession Time [Part 2]

FENRIS

"What answers was the witch talking about?" asks Zion no wonder scenting the witch.

"Something happened in the school which makes me question who my true parents were? I am suspicious that our fathers know about it but are hiding it from me. Just came to ask them," I say not explaining further.

"Anything serious? How is Caliana?"

"Your sister is fine. She found her mate. You might receive an invitation for the claiming ceremony," I say.

"What? Please tell me it is not you, right?" says Zion, surprise and panic evident on his face. I laugh at his expression.

"The future Alpha of the Moon Stone pack. Know Lycidas Volkov?" I ask remembering how Lycidas had once maturely handled the situation brought upon him by Zion. The calm, analysing gaze of Lycidas had ignored Zion's trouble making behavior and quietly explained his need to be seen as a son rather than the future alpha of the pack. The scene had definitely embarrassed young Zion but had helped Fenris to let go of his reservations of being adopted into a totally unknown pack.

"I hope you threatened to rip off his throat if he hurts even a single hair on her head," he says tightening his fists clearly remembering the memory of his insult at the hands of a younger wolf.

"He wouldn't hurt his own mate after all he purposely stayed away from, she-wolves trying to claim him for his title and also kind of saved himself for his mate. Clearly a trait foreign to you," I say successfully riling him up. I smirk inwardly when he just shrugs, in deep thought, not explaining his womanising ways.

Zion never took well to me being adopted. The Luna got distracted by a bruised pup so much that it forced Zion to take care of himself and then when I got settled in the pack, baby Caliana fell sick and once again Zion had deal with his own problems. Even when he was surrounded by his pack, he was still lonely and in a twisted sort of way, I understood how he felt and his wolf reciprocated that feeling thus, forming this weird friendship between us.

Never together but always looking out for each other.

The sound of the Luna calling out for us breaks my thoughts and I shake my head to focus on Zion.

"It is good to see that you did not get bullied in the school. Good that you followed my footsteps," he says smugly trying to diffuse the serious moment.

"You wish, old brother," I say with a bite in my voice earning myself a smack on the back of my head. I reciprocate and soon we are full on brawling on the porch of the Alpha's house.

"Zacharias, come on out here before these pups rip off the hair on each other's heads," shouts the Luna and within seconds we are separated from each other by the Alpha holding our necks and shoving us in the opposite direction making us stumble.

Barely managing my balance, I stand and wipe the blood from the corner of my lips and see Zion doing the same making me smirk.

"Zion! What is this behavior? Is this how you welcome your friend after so long? Apologise now!" says the Luna in her calm yet scary voice.

"That's fine Luna. I hope you are doing well," I say as I shift my gaze between the Alpha and his mate.

"It is always good to see you Fenris but this time you made us wait longer than before. I hope you are back home for good," she says making me pause before answering.

"Not sure, Luna. I will be staying for a few days at the least," I say as I go ahead and greet her and the Alpha. The Alpha claps me on the back loudly nearly making me fall but I manage to stay standing.

"Come on inside. We can talk about the problems with a cup of coffee," he says and we all head inside the Alpha's house.

I see dad and Alcina already nursing a cup of coffee making small talk but stop as soon as I enter. I narrow my eyes on Alcina hoping that she would encourage me to sit beside her but she just shifts in her seat and looks away.

Out of the corner of my eyes, I see Zion heading towards her and quickly move to occupy the seat on her right with the left side of her seat being occupied by dad. Zion growls gives my shoulder a rather sharp squeeze and heads on the opposite side of the table to settle in front of Alcina. Goddess! What a whore.

I narrow my eyes when he just smirks at me and winks at Alcina making her squeak.

The Alpha sits at the end of the table on the left of my father. The Luna settles between Zion and her mate after offering us each a cup of coffee and some freshly baked chocolate cookies.

"So, what makes you come here Fenris and where did she find you?" asks the Alpha pointing out at Alcina.

"This is Alcina and she's my maternal cousin. She was following me when I left the school to come here but I caught her. She claimed that she had some information about my biological parents which she would reveal only in front of my Alpha so I brought her with me," I finish of my sentence looking at the Alpha to gauge his reaction as I did with Randale.

To my satisfaction, he stills, sets his cup of coffee on the table, folds his hands and rests them on the table, clearing his throat. Resignation is the primary emotion wafting off from the Alpha. The Luna seems to be confused and Zion is surprised to see his father in such dilemma. I wait patiently for him to speak chewing on one of the delicious cookies.

I sense Alcina looking at me and I turn to face her. She gives me a smile of reassurance and I wonder if she has any facial similarities to my biological mom. The thought strikes me out of nowhere surprising me and making me realise my desperation to know about my true parents and heritage. I smile in return and turn my attention back towards Alpha Zac.

"I did not find you in the woods that day," he begins and this time I freeze. I nod for him to continue and put on a brave front but I am a little scared inside.

"It was Elder Raoul who brought you to me. You were unconscious and on the verge of death but somehow your heart was beating. There was a witch who helped heal all your major injuries and then Elder Raoul ordered me to accept you in my pack however, not as my son but as some packmate's son. I didn't trust anyone else with this job as I knew that if the oldest Elder was involved, it meant that your life was of utmost importance, that is why, I gave you to Randale," he says with a serious yet sad look on his face.

I sit still trying to absorb this new information when Alcina interrupts.

"Was this witch my mother? Her name is Nora," supplied Alcina.

"Yes, Nora but you do resemble her so it might have been your mother. The Elder trusted her enough to entrust her with your life," says the Alpha looking at me.

"Why did you not tell me this before? Did you know about this Luna?" I ask now facing her.

"Yes, son. I knew but it was Elder Raoul's orders to keep this information from you as he did not want your childhood to be lived in fear. He said that when the time comes, he himself would tell you everything," she says.

"Everything? Meaning there is more? Tell me now," I say. I look at Zion who is frozen in his seat completely shocked from these revelations.

"You must be knowing by now that your mother was a witch," says the Alpha as he waves towards Alcina who nods her confirmation. I nod my head, too.

"Your father was the first wolf to ever find a witch as his mate. Of course, the werewolf kind did not accept this easily. Some claimed that your mother bewitched your father to exact some kind of a revenge on our species but that was not true. Your father convinced all the Elders that she really was his soulmate and stopped all the rumours in the community," says Alpha Zac.

At this point, my brain is flooded with a lot of questions but I don't know where to start from. Alcina beats me to it.

"How did he prove that my aunt is his mate?"

"You see, little witch, his mate had a mark of a wolf on the inside of her wrist. This mark emerged when she met her mate for the first time. Fenris's father had a similar mark of the wolf from the time he was born, thus, confirming their claim of being mates," he says.

"Does every wolf have a mark like this?" asks Zion looking suddenly alert.

"No. This mark thing happens only to a handful of wolves. Only the special ones," answers the Luna looking at me with an expression I can't name.

I finally am able to dissect all this information and lift my head towards my adoptive father.

"Why did he insist that you make someone else take my responsibility?" I ask the Alpha but look at my father.

"The elder did not want you to attract attention by being the Alpha's adoptive son, as I am always in the forefront of any battle against the rogues," he says.

"Then why did you give me to your beta? Why not give me to a normal wolf?" I ask still looking at Randale. He now had sweat beading his forehead and was giving away too much of fear.

"I said already. I didn't trust them with your life and Randale asked if he could adopt you, so I gladly gave you to him," he says.

"Why did you accept an unknown pup into your family?" I direct this question at my adoptive father.

"Yuki was having problems with the fact that we did not have any pups and I thought that you would distract her enough that she can live a happy life," he says.

"So, you adopted me out of duty and not out of acceptance or empathy for a lone wolf pup, right?"

"Yes."

I close my eyes to control my rising temper at this deceiving wolf who claimed to be my father all this time but was only doing it as a duty. I feel betrayed and foolish for trusting him so much.

"Fenris control yourself. Your eyes have turned black. Since when did you have these changes?" asks Alpha Zac.

I remember Sierra's face when I rescued her from the rogues. She was scared to death but somehow relieved that I had saved her. She was the one who pointed out that my eyes were black.

"Since the time, I found my mate," I say in a clipped tone.

The Luna gasps in surprise and asks me about her and why didn't she join me for this trip. I look at Zion who has a knowing look on his face. I ignore him and focus on his mother.

"She wanted some space to deal with all of this and also to focus on her training. She is of Caliana's age," I say thankful that I successfully diverted the topic form my father's betrayal to my estranged mate.

I think over all this new information and repeat it in my head coming to stop as I realise that this information doesn't sit well with me.

"Alpha Zac. Earlier you said that there were rumours of my mother bewitching my father to exact revenge on the werewolf species," I begin and the Alpha nods at me to continue.

"How can any witch exact revenge by bewitching my father? Wasn't he a normal wolf? Or was his father an elder like Elder Raoul? Why did you say that only a few special wolves have a mark like that?" I fire questions rapidly confused like hell. It feels like my head will burst with all this information.

"You father belonged to a very ancient pack of Wolves. He was the descendant of one of the first werewolves known. He was next in line to become the King of all the werewolf packs in this country thus, making him very special," he says and sighs heavily as if reliving a very dreadful memory.

I remain mute trying to digest this news but failing to do so. My father was a prince meaning I am also a prince. Slowly, all the pieces fall in place to complete the puzzle. The information becomes overwhelming and I feel the walls closing in on me.

I get out of my chair and out of the house within seconds ignoring the calls of everyone inside and shift to my wolf form. I hope a long run will help me calm down. With this hope, I run into the woods behind the Alpha's house uncaring about the consequences.
