Chapter 1: Packing and Unpacking!
SIERRA
"I do not want to go to this training academy mother. It's all the way from our pack to the neutral territory which is a 2 day trip in the wolf form." I argue, hoping that they won't send me away.
Every werewolf at the age of 20 has to leave their pack to go and train under the 5 main elders of the werewolf community in Recrania. But I do not want to leave my pack.
"You should go and complete this training. You do not need to attend the warrior training. Just go to the academy. They will evaluate you in the first week and then advice you if you can learn the basic fighting skills or if you need to attend the warrior course," says my mother.
She just wants me to go out of this pack and explore different places, get trained thoroughly to win the beta position for our pack.
You see, my father is a beta of the pack but that does not mean that the title is going to be handed over to me on a golden plate.
No, I have to participate in a Beta Competition where all the interested pack members participate and fight to prove their physical ability to be the Alpha's second in command. Then the selected candidates also undergo an interview where his mental ability and decision-making ability is tested. This entire fiasco is what a person has to go through before attaining the title of the Beta of the pack.
But I do not want to be the Beta. I have my mate, the Alpha's son, and in no way am I going to handle both the beta and the Luna position. I don't understand why my parents insist for me to attend this so-called training.
"You do not really know whether Alpha Aztec is your mate. Just because you both like each other and have been fooling around that does not mean that he is your mate, Sierra," my mother says effectively ruining my thoughts of Aztec.
"But mom, I know Aztec is my mate. He has not yet had his 21st birthday so we just need to wait till that day so that he can officially claim me as his mate," I reply back. I just want my parents to understand this. Even Aztec's parents do not think that we are mates.
"Sierra, you are turning into a spoiled brat. I never thought you would be so blinded with Aztec's looks and fake behavior. He has been gone for the training since a year. Never even once has he tried to contact you. I do not understand why you are so hung up on that boy," scolds my mother.
"Aztec is my mate and you will see it the day he returns on his 21st birthday which is next month. He must be busy with the training. It's a 3 year training for Alphas and a one year training for a normal wolf. I want to be here if Aztec comes to meet me on his 21st birthday. I'll be claimed as his mate and then we can start with our Alpha training together," I shout the last words angrily and start marching towards the door. I need some fresh air to escape all this negativity about Aztec being my mate.
Hearing the commotion, my father makes his entrance with a whiskey in his right hand and a document in his left hand.
I had always been a daddy's girl but ever since he has known about Aztec being my boyfriend, he has been distant from me. A cold shoulder treatment.
"What's going on here, sweetheart?"
"Our daughter's adamant behavior has started grating on my nerves now, Henry. I'm trying to explain to her the seriousness of the training for young wolves, but she as usual just wants to stay here and pretend to be the damsel in distress for the future Alpha of our pack." My mother sneers as she walks past me and stands beside my father.
They have always been my ideal mated couple. I want to have a similar bond with Aztec. I just hope that these negative opinions about Aztec and me doesn't jinx my mating with him.
"Your mother is right Sierra. You should go and complete your training. Mate or not, Aztec can wait till you finish your training.", says my father and with that both my parents leave me alone with their decision looming over me like a dark cloud.

"
Hello Luna. Good morning, I hope I didn't disturb you. I need to talk to you regarding something, if you are free?" I ask her still waiting for her permission to enter her office. After the argument with my parents, I decide to take this matter to the Luna where I will plead about my case. I hope she understands me.
"Hello, darling. Yes, I am quite sure about what you want to talk to me about. Come on in and have a seat. Just give me two minutes and then we can start with the matter regarding your training," replies Luna Jennifer gesturing at the chair in front of her desk in her office.
I take a seat in front of her and look around her office, the Luna's Office. The door to this office opens to its left and there is a window which allows the Luna to keep an eye on the school premises as she is the head of the school even if all the students are now grown up. The Luna's seat is positioned in a way which allows her to see through the window as well to see who is entering her office giving her an added advantage. There is a couch behind my chair with a coffee table for the Luna's assistant to work and to take notes of any important meeting. I hope to be the assistant for the Luna but that is only possible if I am Aztec's mate and then only will I be given the Luna training by his mother.
The sound of someone clearing their throat brings me out of my thoughts and I see Luna Jennifer sitting in front of me giving me her full attention. I clear my throat and move a non-existent strand of hair from my cheek in the hopes of calming my nerves and begin with my plea.
"Umm, Luna, you know about me and Aztec. That we think we are mates and that is the reason why I want to stay here till the next month when its Aztec's birthday. He might come here to claim me as his mate and also to meet you all. I want to be here as you know the council elders do not allow a vacation to any wolf unless it is his/ her birthday or a pack emergency. When he comes here for his birthday, we can claim each other and then together go to the training territory to begin our training as the future pack leaders." I end my speech all the while anxious about her reaction to my plea. I cross my fingers in the hopes that she will grant me the permission to stay and then my parents will have to listen to her as she is the Luna of this pack and in-charge of all the civil disputes.
The Luna just stares at me for a full five minutes before blinking and I guess clearing her thoughts regarding my plea.
"Listen to me well Sierra. I will not repeat this again," she starts and I ready myself for a scolding for thinking that I am already the pack's future Luna.
"You are still very young to think about being the pack's Luna. You do not know for sure if you are my son's mate or not. Even if you claim that you love each other, the feelings you will feel for your mate are a thousand times intense and very strong. You cannot and I mean that when I say that you cannot and should not take mating or mates for granted. So, first of all stop being adamant about Aztec being your mate. I know my son well and I also know that you my precious flower, has given him your heart but you need to steel yourself because Aztec does not think about you as his mate." She finishes her speech and her ending words break my heart but also enrages me.
I desperately try to control my anger as she is still my Luna and I should not disrespect her.
"I understand that you do not approve of me as your son's mate but I know very well that I am Aztec's mate even if my wolf doesn't recognise him as our mate, yet. On his birthday he will know that I am his mate and then I can start with the training. I just ask permission to postpone my training to the next month," I say in a monotonous voice to hide the pain and anger I am feeling right now.
"My darling, you are totally misunderstanding my statement. I am warning you just in case you and Aztec are not mates but just potential mates. It is not good to indulge in such relationships before finding your mate, child." The Luna tries to console me and reaches out to hold my hand in both of hers.
I totally get it. I know that my packmates think I am not Aztec's mate but just a power hungry she-wolf who wants to trap the future alpha of this pack. But that is so not true. I will prove to everyone that I can be the best Luna they can ever have but only if Aztec really is my mate. Listening to the Luna's words have now scared me and I have a feeling that she is just twisting her thoughts about me and Aztec being mates to avoid hurting me.
"Sierra, I think it is best to listen to your parents and leave for the training in this week itself. It is Friday today, if you leave tomorrow you will reach by Sunday evening and then you can start your evaluation training from Monday." Says the Luna when I remain mute to her earlier sentence.
She then gets up and walks to the window, her back facing me. She seems to be thinking hard about something but I don't dare to interrupt the Luna at this moment.
"Regarding Aztec being your mate, I will somehow ask Christopher to command Aztec to stay at the training grounds and meet you on his birthday so that you can know for yourself if you are mates or not. That way you won't miss out wishing him on his birthday and if you are really mates, then you can take special permission from the elders to return to your pack for sometime and celebrate your mating with your pack," finishes the Luna turning to face me with a smile.
Listening to her words I feel elated and I rush out of my seat to hug her hard. She chuckles and returns the hug while kissing my forehead. She is so motherly to me right now that it brings tears to my eyes.
"No more crying Sierra. You are a big girl now. Just think about your decisions and understand that everything happens for a greater good. Even if things do not turn out the way you want them to, you need to keep this in mind, child." She warns me.
I agree to whatever she says not really paying attention as I am ecstatic about meeting Aztec on his birthday even if it is not in our pack. I thank her and rush out of her office to begin with my packing.
As long as I am with him on his birthday when he can claim me as his mate, I have no complaints. It is still 3 weeks for his birthday. I should buy a gift for Aztec before leaving as I am sure that the young wolves are not allowed out of the training campus for any extra activities. Pack grounds or not this is going to be his best birthday ever, I will make sure of it.
