Day 2
3rd Person POV
Virgil woke with a start, panting heavily in a cold sweat. 'That damned dream again...' he thought. He looked over to his brothers bed a few feet from him. He sighed in relief as Roman snored loudly, eye poking out slightly underneath his face mask he wore to bed every night. Virgil was confused on how he had woken up so early, normally Roman would always get up at 6 am for his morning run. "Well, I guess there's no where to run to." He thought aloud. Virgil hopped out of bed and walked past the dresser, eyeing the brush before coming to terms with the fact he had to brush his hair and groaning. He ran the comb through his hair, wincing every so often when it came through a knot. When he was done he went to pick out his clothes. He noticed a dress hanging from the doorknob along with shoes, and a diamond necklace Virgil has found, and stolen claiming it was his. As he dug through, he noticed about two more, the first being about the same as the first, but the second was a beautiful, flowing, formal nightdress.
Virgil noticed a bit attached to the dress and blushed when he saw who it was from.
"Dear Valerie,
I couldn't help but notice while you were settling in you have very few clothes, which is quite abnormal taking your wealth into question. Besides that, I felt it would be my responsibility to help acquire you with an extra piece of attire, or three. I do sincerely hope you find them adequate, as I have taken the liberty of sewing these myself. As I have nothing less to say, I must be going.
Sincerely,
Logan."
Virgil gaped at the note, his face fire truck red as he read over the note again and again. He slowly began to smile wide and hugged the note over his heart contently. Virgil's face somehow got redder, though, when he was given a start by Roman whistling over his shoulder, in only his boxers reading over the note in Virgil's hand with a teasing smirk on his face, and a mischievous glint in his eyes. He shrieked and punched Roman in the jaw, flustered. "G-GO PUT ON SOME PANTS, YOU DISNEY REJECT!" He cried. Roman gasped, feigning offense as he sashayed to the bathroom to go put on his clothes. Virgil looked side to side quickly to make sure no one else was there before quickly planting a kiss onto the letter.
Loud laughter came from the fanciful prince behind him as he whipped his head around. His brother, now fully clothed, was doubled over laughing and wheezing. Virgil was both embarrassed and furious when his brother wheezed out loudly while he had finished running to the bathroom to change. "OH MY GAW- DID YOU REALLY JUST- THAT WAS THE-" He laughed, wiping a tear from his eye. Virgil marched out, looking red and angry before Logan walked into the room without warning.
"Is everything adequate here? I heard screaming." He asked, Roman biting his lip to stifle a laugh. Virgil looked as though he had gotten an idea and smirked. "Yeah, just Roman is getting mad at be for something despite him making goo-goo eyes at Patton yesterday." He sneered, glaring playfully at Roman. Roman sputtered and gawked, face sharing the same pallets as Virgil's from not too long ago. Roman suddenly looked extremely scared, like he was about to shit his pants at any moment now. Virgil looked at Logan, and if looks could kill. Logan glared daggers at Roman, looking just about ready to kill him as soon as he said 'making goo-goo eyes at Patton'.
Logan made no effort to form words as he dragged Roman out of the room and into the hallway. Virgil looked scared and worried as he heard Logan bellow swear words that don't exist and hopefully never will, he couldn't make out anymore than "-AND YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO EVEN LOOK AT PATTON AFTER THAT SHIT YOU PULLED-" before covering his ears and praying his brother made it out alive. Logan dragged Roman into the room again, furious. "AND NOW BECAUE OF THOSE TWO THINGS YOU ARE GOING TO APOLOGIZE OR SO HELP ME, ROMAN." He shouted. Virgil looked at his brother and tried not to laugh. Roman looked as though he had just seen death itself, his usually tan face white as a sheet. Roman mumbled out a soft 'I'm sorry, Valerie." Before Logan apologized to Virgil for Romans behavior.
Logan closed the door on his way out as Roman stood there, Virgil laughed lightly as he poked his cheek. He seemed to snap back to reality, smiling brightly, as though he hadn't just been destroyed by words seconds ago. Virgil watched, confused and worried as his brother bore his signature smirk and put his boots on. "I should really be going now, the sun is bright, the air is tranquil, and it's just all in all a great day to run." He exclaimed, grabbing his satchel and before Virgil could protest, he was out the door. Virgil stood there for a moment, contemplating. Should he (run or fire his gun or let it be? Ik I ruined the mood I just don't care.) go after him? Should he bare into Logan for treating his brother that way? Or should he just stay there? He let out an a sad sigh. He's Roman, if he needs to say something then by god he will say it. So he must me fine.
right?
Roman POV (all aboard the angst train, choo choo bitches.)
I walk through the crowded town with ease, occasionally a small child would gasp and point to me, but that's normal by now. I just need a small walk to take my mind off of what happened, something so little shouting never even cross a princes' mind! While I walk I turn around and notice a small bakery, I become quickly excited (not like that you pervert) and turn on my heel to go and get a small pastry. I open the door and my heart sinks, Patton cheerfully hands a poor, old woman a large loaf of bread. "It's on the house, enjoy the bread ma'am!" He called as she waved and left the store. Patton's eyes lit up when he saw me. "Ro Ro! I didn't take you for the type of guy to walk around slumming with the poor." He said, happily. My throat tightened as I found it difficult to speak. "Are you alright? You look like you've seen a spider. Wait, are there any here?!" He shrieked, holding up a bread roller and looking around. "No, No!" I sputter.
"It's just...I thought you hated me." I mutter, a bit of what Logan had said coming back to me. I fight back tears. Patton frowned sympathetically. "Roman, of course I don't hate you. Yeah, what you did was mean, but I know that you were just trying to do right by the kingdom. You said sorry, it's fine Roman." He said, adorning a sad smile. I nod slowly and thank him. "So what type of cake or bread do you want? This is my bakery after all." He laughed. "O-Oh! Right." I say. I order my food and pay him the amount needed. Patton calls as I leave. "Oh! Hey Ro? Could you tell Logan to keep his window open? I'm coming over later on today." I feel my blood run cold, "O-Okay. I'll tell Valerie." I say as I leave the shop. Patton waves goodbye while I scurry out the store.
I dash into a small, old alleyway that no one was near. I lean onto a wall and let my body fall. Things that were said rushing back into my mind. Was it really true?
"You're a monster. You hurt him and he didn't deserve it."
Was I a monster?
"You disgust me, Patton hates you, you know that?"
Was he lying?
"You."
Do I....
"Deserve to."
Do I really....
"Die."
"Deserve to die?"
I spoke the last part out loud, my voice breaking while I lost composure, as I curled onto myself and burst out sobbing, loud. I shake as I grip my hair while hot tears roll down my cheeks seemingly non-stop. I didn't know how much time had passed, but it had to be about an hour later when ,I pulled back, pulling up my shaking, calloused hands. I pull them back quickly, and grab a rock on the ground. I began slamming my fists into my forehead repeatedly. I sob loudly as I did it again, and again, and again. Before suddenly two hands pull them away quickly, I look up slowly. Patton was sitting there, panicked and teary eyed. "Roman, what on earth where you thinking?!" He cried, as I sat there. Unfeeling.
Patton POV
As I asked Roman why he had done this to himself, i took a small look at his quickly bruising forehead back to his face. His eyes looked dull, he didn't seem there, fully. "Roman?" I asked quietly. He suddenly looked frightened. I heard a small gasp from the other side of the alley. I turned around to see a young man, he looked like... "Valerie?" I said, before the panicked man dashed over to Romans aid, I was about to tell him that he needed to give him some space before I heard Roman mumble softly, adorning a small smile. "H-Hey, Virgil." He said, Virgil thought for a moment before just saying "Fuck it." and ripping the hem of his shirt and tying it around Romans forehead. Virgil, despite Roman being about a foot taller than him, picked him up with ease. It was only then that Virgil looked down and saw me, standing there, stunned. "Shit." He said, starting to run before Roman stopped him.
"W-Wait..he deserves to know..." He murmured softly, grabbing onto my shirt sleeve. Virgil thought for a moment before sitting down, placing Roman behind him. He stared at me intently, as if waiting for me to speak. "So, you're-" I said, before Virgil cut me off. "Valerie.". I nod again before speaking. "Is he actually your brother?" I asked, Virgil nodded but still strangely looked angry. I was about to ask something again before Virgil just said plainly, "Yes, I am Logan's old friend he talks about." I sat there for a moment, before speaking up. "You're trying to get him back, right?" I asked meekly. Virgil was looking at Roman now, and the fanciful prince nodded. "That's the plan." He spoke. We sat in silence for a moment when Virgil asked angrily, "So what did you do to him?" He growled. "W-What?" I asked, "What did you do to him to make him break down like that?"
"I dunno!" I said defensively. Virgil sighed, "Look, I'm sorry. I just have a lot on my mind and I'm panicking." He apologized. I nodded. "I'll answer your questions, he's really my brother. I knew him when we were little, and I'm doing this because I want him back." He said. "Can I ask one last thing?" I said, Virgil nodded. "Do you really love him?" I asked. Virgil laughed lightly, "More than you could ever know." He said, a honeydew glow in his cheeks, as the sun set slowly behind him. "Can you keep this a secret? If they figure out I'm a guy they'll kick me out and send me to jail for treason." He asked, "Of course!" I said with a smile. Virgil nodded, smiling as well while he grabbed his brother. "Bye Patt..." Roman mumbled, waving slightly. "Bye, Ro Ro!" I called back, blushing slightly. Once they turned the corner I stood there before burying my face in my hands, face a striking shade of crimson against my freckles. I pulled them down and hugged myself, smiling.
I walk down the street, almost skipping as I made my way to the castle. No one was around when I threw a pebble at the window, Logan opened his window a few seconds later. "Salutations, Patton." He said. I made my way up into his room while we chatted about until 12:00 in the morning. "Hey, Lo?" Logan turned to me and said. "It's Logan." "Sure, but can you tell me a bit about how you and Virgil met?" I said, Logan tensed. "Where did this come from?" He asked, "Just curious." I dismissed. Logan adjusted himself. "Well, one day I had snuck out of home, and went to the field that was always blossoming with flowers. I was about to sit down when I saw a little boy, his clothes were in tatters like the rest of the village he lived in at the time. He was happily frolicking in the flowers, I watched him for a moment before he approached me.
He greeted me, I was going to tell him off before I saw his eyes," He laughed dryly. "They were unlike anything I had ever seen before. They were a deep violet, swirling with curiosity and mischief, bright with innocence and wide. I recall standing there, and him doing the same. Just staring into each others eyes. We were snapped from our trance when Virgil finally spoke up. The rest you already know by now." He finished, tears threatening to spill out of his eyes. "There's a reason I'm so protective over you, I don't want you to go through the heartbreak I did. I just don't want you to go through what I did..." he trailed off. I hugged him tightly. "Thank you." I said, Logan quickly hugged back as I ran a hand through his slicked back hair. He began to shake violently, and that's when I knew he was crying. We sat there for a while, Logan crying into my shoulder and me running a hand through his hair.
Logan's shaking stopped when he fell asleep, I pulled him back to lay him down on his bed. I took off his glasses and gently placed it on the bedside table. Pulling the covers into him, I looked at his face. He looked stressed, almost broken. His eyebags were easy to see without his glasses blocking them slightly. I saw the plate of food from the day before inside of the bin. I sigh. 'Every time.' I thought, I pulled out a small bag of mini cakes and place them in his bedside table next to his glasses.
I hop out of the window with a smile, landing on my feet as I sneak back to my house.
Virgil POV
Roman was sitting on his bed, while I sit in the side. "Listen Ro, it's going to be okay. I'm sure he didn't mean what he said." Roman nodded. I frowned more. "C'mon, remember what Dad always said." I reminded. Roman mumbled. "I can't hear you~" I said. "'Bad people hurt people for fun, and good people make mistakes.'" Roman said. "Close enough." I deadpanned. Roman chuckled lightly, smiling sadly. "Night, Ro.' I said, "Shouldn't you take that off?" He said, pointing to my eyeshadow. I laugh as I stood up and walked to my bed. "No." I said, glaring playfully as I pulled the covers over my body. Once I got settled in, I was about to fall asleep when I heard muffled sobs come from the other side of the room. Worry and Sadness rushed over me. 'Hopefully he'll feel better in the morning....' I tried to reason, as I fell asleep.
