Face From The Past

She sat up with a jolt, her heartbeat racing and her body trembling all over. She had seen snippets of her memories in the dream and it all revolved around Jeremy Gilbert.

The scene of his hands cupping her face tenderly and his lips stealing her breath away with a kiss played on repeat in her head, making her more confused than ever. It should have been the first time for her to see him in class but it all brought a sense of deja vu.

It all felt too familiar, as if she had possibly spent a considerable time with the young Gilbert.

Her head was spinning with questions that she couldn't find any answers to. And she dreaded going to university in fear that she would cross paths with Jeremy again.

Him coming close to her gave her a headache but even more so, something about him made her heart churn with feelings that should not be there if he was just a stranger to her.

"Alyssa, honey, do you want to come out for dinner?" Andie's voice shook her out of her thoughts and she checked the time.

"I'm not hungry, I'll just go to sleep," she replied back.

"Okay then, if you need anything, you know where to find me."

The sound of Andie's footsteps retreating faded and Alyssa took in a deep breath, standing up from the bed at last. Sleep was far from her reach so she paced the room barefoot, thinking about Jeremy and what should she do about her current situation.

She should go to a doctor and get herself checked to find out the reason to her recurring headaches. And perhaps she should tell Jeremy that even if they did know each other earlier, she didn't remember him anymore.

But she couldn't deny the feeling because she had seen the same familiar gaze in his eyes; it was clear that he had known her very well.

Perhaps he was a face from her past that she had forgotten.

A long time had passed in her thinking about it until she felt hungry. So deciding to get something to eat from the kitchen, she creaked open her bedroom door.

The lights were out so Andie probably had gone to bed. But as she stepped out from her room and edged closer to the kitchen, she heard Andie talking to someone in a low tone, probably over the phone.

Alyssa wouldn't have eavesdropped if only she hadn't heard her name come up in the conversation. Slightly curious, she edged closer and tried to be silent due to the fact that she was supposed to be asleep.

"I am trying," Andie sounded slightly frustrated, "I kept the room locked, I've made sure to stick with her all the time... And things were getting better until she went inside your room by herself..."

She listened closely, wanting to find out who she was talking to.

"No, I swear! If anything happens to her, I won't be able to live with the guilt. But she has not been well ever since as she gets terrible headaches and I'm so worried for her."

It was slightly difficult for Alyssa to understand the situation as she could only hear it one-sided. But that much was certain that whoever she was talking to knew Alyssa and was concerned for her.

But then Andie said a name that froze her to the spot.

"Damon, please. I don't know why you pushed her out of your lives but she's suffering here. Don't do this to her anymore."

Damon.

Her mind had come to a screeching halt as pieces of memories flooded in, making her feel suffocated.

She couldn't put a face to that name she had just heard but it struck her even harder than seeing Jeremy had done so.

"She had gone to sleep. Yeah..." Andie sounded dejected, as if the man on the other end of the call had roughly told her off, "of course I'll look after her..."

It seemed as if she was about to hang up Alyssa stepped back and went to her room before she would be caught listening in to her call.

But those words and that name were resonating in her head.

She felt whoever that Damon was, he was connected to her life, the house she was currently living in and the strange state of forgetfulness that she was suffering from.

She felt he had the answers to all her questions.

But there was no way of getting to him because Andie wouldn't tell her and if she asked her, she would have to admit that she had listened in when the woman was busy on a call.

And she didn't want Andie to feel like she did not trust her.

The only other option left for her was Jeremy Gilbert; another face from her past that she had forgotten but somehow he had unexpectedly showed up.

Perhaps he would know something that might clear up her confusions.

She would have to talk to him and see if he knew something that could help.
