Encounter

She had not gone to university for two days as her headache had worsened. But after taking rest and medication, she was feeling somewhat better that morning and decided to go.

Andie offered to drop her to the campus herself so she wouldn't have to get exhausted by taking public transport. Alyssa agreed and after having a light breakfast, she got into the car beside Andie.

Ever since that day when she had found those pictures and other stuff in that locked room she wanted to ask her what it meant. There was a possibility that Andie would know why those things were kept hidden away or who those men in the photographs were.

But due to her headache and exhaustion, she couldn't ask her outright. Each time she tried to bring it up, a wave of pain would silence her.

"Take care, Alyssa," Andie remarked as she was about to get out of the car, "and don't worry about anything. Just give me a call and I will pick you up when your classes."

"You don't have to..." She replied, feeling that perhaps the woman was getting too burdened due to her.

"It doesn't matter. I don't have to go to work today so I will be free anyways. Don't hesitate to call me, okay?"

"Okay."

"Bye," she waved as Alyssa closed the door and then headed towards the building.

She was following that same monotonous routine of university life as she would go through each class, take her notes, spend her free time in the library and then go back home. It had been months since she had woken up with damaged memories from the road accident, yet she still felt like a stranger stuck in an unknown place, living someone else's life.

Her next class was advanced literature and for that, she had to go to the Linguistic department along with the rest of her bath mates. As usual, she silently walked through the corridors, found herself a seat at the back of the classroom and then settled down on her own.

The rest of the students there treated her as a stranger too which all the more strengthened her thoughts that even before the accident, she had not known those people.

Brushing the thoughts away, she look down at her book again, realizing that she had an assignment due for that course in two days. She would have to work on the assignment soon as she got home to finish it in time.

She was checking her own work when the Professor's voice shook her out of her thoughts and she looked up, not wanting to give the impression that she wasn't listening to him. But as she stared ahead, she froze to see the person standing beside the teacher.

"We have a transfer student this term," the Professor announced, introducing the boy with dark brown eyes focused on Alyssa in shock as if he too wasn't expecting to see her there. "This is Mister Jeremy Gilbert and he will be joining...."

The rest of the words faded as she was too focused on why the young man named Jeremy looked so familiar to her. It felt as if she knew him but couldn't remember him. It seemed as if he had the same

"Please take the seat next to Miss Grace," the Professor remarked and she stiffened, seeing Jeremy coming to her seat.

He hadn't even come closer when her head started to hurt again and when he placed his things down on the desk and sat, the pain pulsating through her nerves increased.

"Hi," he greeted her casually as if he was certain they knew each other and were on quite good terms as well.

But her breath got hitched in her throat and her vision started to go blurred due to the increasing pain.

He noticed that she did not look well as he spoke up, "Alyssa, are you alright?"

He knew her name, she thought, the words confirming that they did know each other. She did not hear the Professor tell him her name yet he had said it as clearly as if he had addressed her several times in the past too.

They definitely knew each other. There was just something about his eyes and his features that she couldn't look past.

But right then the throbbing in her head was not getting unbearable so she held her hand up for the Professor to notice.

"Excuse me, Sir, can I please go to the medical room? I do not feel well."

The Professor allowed her to leave and as she stepped out of the classroom, she could still feel Jeremy's concerned eyes following her. Soon as she was out in the main corridor, she took in a deep breath of fresh air as if she had been suffocated for a long time in there.

But not even halfway to the medical room, the headache subsided and she felt much better than earlier. It was almost as if Jeremy's presence had caused her head to hurt though it made no sense why that would happen.

But she did not want to return to the class so she went to the medical room nevertheless, asked the matron for an aspirin and then called Andie to pick her up.

Jeremy couldn't believe his eyes.

Alyssa Grace had vanished from Mystic Falls almost as if she had never been there yet months after, he saw her again at the university he had applied to as a transfer student. Back at Mystic Falls, the people who were close to her almost believed she had fallen prey to the supernatural entities plaguing the town but apparently, that wasn't true.

There could be no way that he was mistaken; the young woman he had sat next to for a few minutes until she had left the classroom was indeed Alyssa, his presumed dead girlfriend.

A wave of mixed emotions was hitting him ever since he had seen her there; happiness and relief that she was alive, confusion at why she hadn't contacted him in all that time and concern because she didn't look well back then.

Her eyes had been red too as if she hadn't been sleeping properly and in the very few minutes he had been close to her, he had sensed that she seemed anxious. Her hands had reached up to her temples a lot and perhaps she had been going through a headache.

Soon as the class got over, he went to the medical room to check up on her. At last when he found his way there, he was told that Alyssa had left as her friend had come to pick her up.

He knew he couldn't outright ask any of their other classmates about her without giving any context so he didn't bring her up again and went through the rest of his classes.

But his mind was still stuck on her.

She was alive and had been so close to him just a few hours ago.

He wanted to find her and talk to her, to kiss her and let her know that no matter what she was going through, he would always be there for her, both as a friend and a partner.

He hoped she would come to university the next day and he would get a chace to talk to her.

He had missed her so much in the past trialing months, that was the reason he left Mystic Falls even to escape the haunting sadness of losing her. Yet fate had brought them together again under unexpected circumstances.
