Secret Spot
Jeremy was waiting at Wickery Bridge. It was about four in the evening. Soon he spotted her running towards the bridge. When she reached she was quite out of breath.
"Sorry I'm late," she gasped, "got a little held up at home."
He smiled, "no problem. So where are we going today."
She replied vaguely, "somewhere special." She refused to tell him anything else about that special place despite the fact that he kept bugging her with questions.
She led him inside the small forestry in Mystic Falls past the town's cemetery. It was dense but not very large with a considerable amount of trees.
"Alyssa why don't you tell me where you're taking me?" Jeremy asked yet again.
She ignored the question, "have a little patience, Jer. It's a secret spot and I know you'll like it."
Finally they reached the center in which there was a little clearing. It was a peaceful place with a rock to sit upon. She took Jeremy over to the rock which was big enough for both of them.
"What's this?" Jeremy asked after looking around for a moment.
She replied, "it's my thinking place. And you know what's so special in here?"
He shook his head silently smiling.
"Whenever I get depressed or feel bad about anything, I come up here and relax. It's quite helpful. All the anger, pain, anxiety etc washes away."
His eyes darkened, "do you get depressed too, Alyssa?"
She immediately looked up at him to observe his read his expression. "Yes I do. Everyone of us gets depressed once in a while," she replied carefully.
"So you think it's normal, is it?" his face had that wondering look again.
She spoke, "yes it is to a certain extent. But the point that really matters is how to overcome it. One should not get subjected to depression, Jer. The results can prove to be fatal." She had said everything with a lot of consideration knowing he could take whatever she said seriously.
"You are talking like shrink, you know. As if you had had a lot of experience," he remarked.
She smiled to hide the emotions she was feeling herself, "maybe. You could say that."
He sat down with her on the rock, "well then so I don't exactly get why you brought me here."
Her eyes widened, "Jeremy? Goodness, well I brought you here to show you that such a magical place exists in your town. Now you'll have to do as I say, okay?"
He nodded obediently.
"First you have to relax. Take a deep breath like this, " she instructed him, "now close your eyes. Don't fret okay? I'm not gonna eat you."
He laughed, "of course you won't."
She smiled to herself, "now think of anything you find comforting and let it spread in your mind. Focus on it."
She was keenly observing him as he sat there doing whatever she told him. She kept silent for a while allowing him to go deep within himself. She noticed the slight smile that had spread on his face proving that he was calmed and relaxed.
"What do you see, Jer?" her voice was low as a whisper but curious all the same as if she really wanted to know.
"I see you, Alyssa," he whispered back. His tone was calm and collected and his eyes were still closed.
Her eyes widened a little, "and what else do you see?"
He slowly opened his eyes, "nothing else. Just you."
Her voice stuck in her throat. After an awkward pause she spoke, "you know how important it is to live, don't you? You know that it's a blessing we're alive right now."
His eyes narrowed in confusion, "why are you asking this?"
She resumed, "don't ever let sadness consume you, Jer, don't ever. And never think that you're worthless. A lot of people need you. Whenever you get angry or depressed you can come here and talk your heart out. But don't ever take out your anger on your own self."
He looked at her as if surprised, "did anyone tell you anything about me?"
Now she was caught off guard, "no."
He took her hand in his surprising her immensely, "there's no use to hide anything. I know that probably Jenna, Elena or perhaps Ric might have told you about what I did a few weeks ago. That the reason why you're being so strange to me, isn't it? But tell you what, I'm not going to do that ever again. I realized that taking my own life won't be a solution to anything."
He paused for a little while then resumed, "you made me realize that there are many other things in life which are worth living for. And you are one of those special things that encourage one to live."
