School
At school, Damon and Melanie were ushered to the Reception where the forms were filled and Melanie was enrolled in the school. She was still holding his hand when he took her to the classroom.
"Daynon, will you just leave me here?" she asked innocently.
He gave her a reassuring smile, "no I'll come to pick you up when school's over. Your teacher will show you how things are done here and I know you'll make a lot of friends."
The teacher, Miss Lilith, was more than just obliged to help Melanie out. Damon gave her a small wave and then went off. She was a little bit nervous at first but she adjusted.
Damon had been right; at the end of the day she had made many friends and when he came to pick her up she was rather cheerful. "Hi Daynon!" she greeted as he helped her in the car and placed her school bag in the backseat.
"Looks like little Mel enjoyed her first day," he remarked.
The way home, she chattered about her new friends, new teachers and studies. After a while she asked Damon, "did you like school too?"
A smirk etched up on his face and there was a glint in his eyes, "no not at all. I loathed school."
She was confused, "but why? Didn't you have any friends or any good teachers?"
His smirk widened, "I suppose the teachers might be good but I wasn't and that's a fact. Saint Stefan liked school more than me. He practically adored it. While I... well... if I do tell you the pranks I pulled there, I won't be setting a very good example."
But as usual he might have told her if it hadn't been for Stefan. Melanie told him all about her school too and he was very happy to see that she had fit in.
"And I've got homework," she added.
Damon spoke, "sorry, Mel, but I won't be helping you with your homework. I hate it."
She smiled, "I know you can't help me. You are not good at studies, right?"
Stefan laughed, "no worries I can help you."
Damon's jaw dropped open, "so you think I failed classes? That I was a lousy student? That I didn't have enough brain to actually study?"
She pouted, "but you told me you weren't a good student."
He sighed, "well... that's a fact. I wasn't much interested in studies."
Stefan spoke, "and still you somehow got enrolled in Oxford."
He smirked, "I can be very persuasive. By the way, I know it's important to obtain higher education at least once in your life. Thankfully I'm not like you; wasting time studying for the past 146 years."
She was confused, "146 years? How can Steefan be so old?"
Damon smirked again, "cuz he's a Saint, Melanie."
Stefan narrowed his eyes at him, "when will you learn to keep your mouth shut?"
He replied, "in all probability I'd never."
She frowned a little as if pondering over something, "but that probably means Steefan was a good student. Did you use to top classes too just like my teacher says that good students always top classes?"
Damon rolled his eyes, "he's not the best student in the world."
She nodded, "of course. But accept it that he's better at studies."
He scowled, "I don't really care."
