Jeremy Gilbert

Students were swarming in the high school building from all corners. Some were huddled together in groups, some were wandering alone while the rest were roaming around in couples. She headed towards the Reception where she was given her timetable and schedule. Her locker number was G-358. Piling her books into the locker she shut it.

She turned around to go out but instead bumped into someone. "Crap! Now of all times," she cursed under her breath.

She picked up her folder and straightened to see that she had bumped into a boy of about her age with messy brown hair and curious brown eyes.

"I'm really sorry I wasn't looking my way. Won't happen ever again. Promise," he apologized.

She shrugged it off, "its okay. You don't have to apologize for things that happen on a daily basis."

He smiled, "thanks." After a short pause he spoke, "I haven't seen you around before."

She nodded, "well yeah that's because I'm new. Just shifted here a few days ago and it's my first day at High School."

He extended his right hand, "that's great. I'm Jeremy."

She shook the offered hand, "Alyssa."

He seemed nice and friendly, "I'm guessing you probably haven't made any friends yet?"

She nodded, "no I haven't. New town, new people...it'll take some time getting used to."

Since they had the same class, he showed her through the corridor into the History classroom. "You've joined school at a good time. Our history teacher Mr Tanner just left to be replaced by Alaric Saltzman. Consider yourself really lucky not to put up with Mr Tanner's rules," he mumbled.

She spoke, "thanks, Jeremy. I really appreciate your help."

He laughed nervously, "anytime."

It was half time. Melanie headed towards the cafeteria still having a light conversation with Jeremy. They had most classes together and he was always eager to be of some help. She too thought it was worth talking to him rather than sitting alone on a bench by herself.

He was funny and easy to talk to and she wasn't bored of hearing him talk about school and stuff. Her gaze stopped at a blonde girl who was enthusiastically chattering about joining the Cheerleader team. Seeing her reminded Melanie of her school friend Mackenzie.

"That's Caroline Forbes," Jeremy spoke from beside her, "she's rather cheerful but nice. When she comes to know that you're new here she'll be the first to befriend you. And will persuade you to join the Cheerleaders."

She mumbled, "I didn't ask."

He spoke, "you were looking at her so I thought. Well."

She gave a low nod, "tell you what, Jeremy, I look at lots of people. Doesn't mean I want to know them."

He was a bit taken aback, "uh, okay, I guess?"

Seeing his slightly red face, she smiled, "hey I was just saying that. You don't have to take everything I say seriously. Maybe me and Caroline will be really good friends. My old school friend Kenny was a lot like her."

He smiled in return, "I'm not being a burden on you, am I? I mean if you're getting bored or want me gone, all you have to do is ask."

She laughed, "oh no. You're not the worst company in the world."

He remarked, "you have a weird way of saying things."

She shrugged, "I'm honest. A bit outspoken at times. Don't worry you'll get used to it."

He gave a low nod, "yeah I think so. Its nice being a bit different I mean. Seeing the same kind of people everyday can get boring."

However she was shocked when her gaze landed on a girl who looked exactly like Katherine Pierce. She was a bit skinnier though and her hair were straight not in elaborate curls but overall she was an exact replica. The resemblance was striking. She was more stunned to see Stefan entering with his arm round the Katherine's duplicate girl.

Jeremy asked, "do you want to know who they are or are you just plainly looking at them for nothing?"

She was shaken put of her thoughts. Seeing the girl had sparked a fire in her but she had to appear calm and composed in front of Jeremy. "Who's that girl? She looks like someone I knew but wasn't exactly fond of," she mumbled.

He replied, "well her name's Elena Gilbert and she's my sister."

Melanie was surprised, "so this is Elena. I heard a lot about her."

He nodded, "yeah, she knows a lot of people."

She spoke, "well hopefully she won't be like the person I knew considering she's your sister."

He smiled a bit nervous at her remark, "looks like you have a good opinion of me."

She answered, "perhaps. You're friendly and polite. And the best thing is that you don't bore me to death."

The day passed by. Jeremy had introduced her to Elena and her friends; Caroline Forbes and Bonnie Bennett. At the end of school she had made a few friends.

She slung her bag on her shoulder and was walking out of the building when Jeremy approached, "Alyssa wait!"

She stopped for him to catch up while a smirk was playing on her lips.

"I hope you don't mind me sticking around, I mean," he spoke but she cut him short.

"I don't mind at all, Jeremy Gilbert. In fact if you would agree I was planning on adding you on my close friends list."

He laughed nervously, "yeah sure, why not?"

She smiled, "great. Have a good day, new best friend."

He smiled back, "you too."
