Catching Up
Damon and Enzo were sitting together at the bar. Both had a lot to tell each other. After a long time, Damon was finally glad. He was feeling relaxed and was in a mood to enjoy.
"Cheers," Enzo said as they clinked their glasses together.
"Cheers," Damon replied downing his shot.
"So what has been up with you lately?" Enzo asked.
"Nothing much," he replied, "except if you could actually consider all these depressed fits as something worth happening... Well what about you?"
He spoke, "don't you think Melanie is the best thing that has actually happened to you?"
He nodded, "yes I do. But the bad thing is that I did nothing to deserve someone as pure as her. Tell you what, sometimes I fear that I would spoil her purity and her innocence. Living with a dangerous impulsive vampire like me is not that ideal for a teenager."
Enzo remarked, "but she's not going to leave you anytime soon."
He nodded, "I know. And if she does I don't know what will become of me."
He patted his shoulder and said, "well Damon let's show this stuck up lot how to party."
He gave him a full blown smirk, "you're on."
Enzo laughed, "that's the Damon Salvatore I know."
In no time, they were in the middle of the dance floor doing the crazy dance of the drunk as the loud music blared. They were joined by everyone present.
"Its toxic but it's worth it," Damon sang a mindless song which he made up himself, "a few hours buzz can't do no harm."
Enzo joined adding his own lyrics, "but tomorrow will blow it. The hangover will cause some alarm." They partied all night carefree and unaware of the whole world.
The next morning Damon woke up to find that he was back home in his bedroom. Everything was cleared up and as he sat up he saw Melanie opening the curtains.
She turned around, "morning sleepyhead."
He couldn't help but smile at seeing her beautiful smiling face before him, "morning."
She raised an eyebrow, "well... That's weird."
He asked genuinely curious, "what's weird?"
She flopped down on his armchair spinning around twice, "don't you see; I'm in your room. Without your permission. And you didn't yet tell me to get out."
He stood up putting on a fake angry face, "GET THE HELL OUT OF MY ROOM, MELANIE SALVATORE! IT'S A NO GO AREA FOR YOU!"
She burst laughing, "yeah I was expecting this."
He brushed the hair off his face with his hand chuckling silently, "well I guess I have to loosen up some rules for you now that you're so grown up. You can come into my room whenever you like. And I would love it if you would wake me up like this every single morning."
She feigned distress, "oh come on Damon do you think I have nothing else to do in the world so I could have all the time to wake you up at such ungodly hours in the morning!?!? And go brush your teeth, Mr Salvatore, because I can tell you didn't spend the night without getting high."
He protested, "it was just a slight buzz. I wasn't that pissed off."
She scrunched up her nose, "bad Damon. Very bad."
He laughed grabbing the towel and disappeared in the bathroom. When he came downstairs he saw Melanie arranging the plates on the table.
Seeing him, she added, "and I forget telling you earlier. I cooked today."
He took his seat taking in the mouth watering smell, "sometimes I feel thankful that I can still eat even though technically I'm dead."
She gave him a playful shove, "I didn't know that the word gratitude existed in your dictionary."
He looked at her with wide innocent eyes, "but it does. I just don't use it often."
She shook her head giggling at his remark when he grabbed her wrist, "what now Damon?"
This time though, instead of smirking mischievously at her, he gave her a genuine smile, "thank you."
She raised an eyebrow, "what for?"
His smile widened, "for staying with me, for helping me and tolerating me when I was at my worst."
She spoke in a low voice, "do you know how different you look when you smile? Its so much better than your smirks. You should smile often."
He spoke, "I do. Because you make me smile."
She shook her head, "why are you being so sweet today?"
He smiled again, "I love you Melanie you know that, don't you?"
Her face lit up, "I know. And I love you too. Perhaps even more than you do. Because all the relationships I ever have in this world start and end at you only. So I really love you too."
He smirked, "then I love you three."
She laughed, "love you four."
"Five."
"Six."
"Seven!"
They were stopped by a voice coming from the spare room, "stop arguing on something's that's so obviously pointless and let me sleep."
Damon looked at her in alarm, "is Enzo here too?"
She shrugged, "you both were inseparable last night so yeah I told him he could stay in Stef-the spare room. Besides he wasn't in a condition to go back to wherever he's living either."
Damon asked, "you were awake last night when we came back?"
She shook her head, "obviously. You were creating a racket. You both woke me up. I mean who the hell dances in a living room to no music at all? You were really absolutely completely busted."
He shrugged, "ah well I don't remember that."
She mumbled, "of course, you were wasted, silly."
He laughed, "wasted silly? Is that a new phrase?"
She nodded, "yup. New phrase exclusively made for two insane people. No let me correct it; Vampires. Two technically dead crazy individuals."
