*it was late at night in the Amazon team dorm room, we see ruby finishing packing up for a solo mission she'll be doing. Once everything was in her duffle bag, she put it over her shoulder and was ready to walk away. She stopped just as her hand was at the doorknob and looked back where Pyrrha was sleeping. Ruby took a breath and wrote them a letter for when they woke up. It was messy handwriting, but it was smaller than before, so it was an improvement*

Note: I'm going on a mission, I'll be back in a few days. Do not call me, I'll be fine. Nora, make sure that Angel doesn't call. Angel, we'll go get coffee when I get back, take care of yourself.

*Ruby gave a short nod at the note and walked away from the room as quietly as possible. Once in the hallway, she started to walk. Ruby took her phone out and called somebody*

Ruby: Hey. It's me. I'm on the way to the specified location.

*Ruby heard a grunt on the other line and hung up, she took a small sigh, as she was walking to where miracle was resting, she couldn't help but recall the events with Weiss schnee*

Flashback

with Ruby and Weiss

* We see them on Weiss's limo. Neither of them was talking, ruby was fine with this, she preferred looking out the window, seeing the world drive by them. While Weiss was feeling a little uncomfortable in the silence*

Weiss: So. I know why you wanted me to come. But is that really the whole reason?

Ruby:..... It's the only reason that matters. I'm. . .trying. I'm trying to make friends....with... you.

*Ruby struggled to say since it was slightly embarrassing, even if it is a lie. The only reason she's even doing this was because she was keeping her promise to Whitley. Weiss nodded with a smile that was kind, but for ruby, it was just an arrogant atlas smile*

Weiss: Well, I can't say I blame you. Everyone wants to be friends with me. Since I am a shnee after all

Ruby: Don't care.

*Ruby said bluntly, it took Weiss off guard, as she looked at Ruby already getting angry. Ruby didn't care. She kept looking out the window, without any emotion in her face*

Weiss: Excuse me?

Ruby: Just being truthful. I don't care about your last name. I'm interested in being friends with Weiss.

*Ruby said bluntly, it made Weiss blush, since while this wasn't the first time she heard that before, she knows Ruby is telling the truth*

Weiss: Oh. Uh... well. Good. D..did I mention what the show we'll see it's about? It's about Odysseus journey and....

*And so Weiss started to ramble to fill the silence since she wasn't expecting ruby to say something like that. She didn't know how to react*

After the car ride

*We see Weiss and Ruby waiting on the line to enter the opera when something catches Ruby's eyes. More specifically, someone catches her eye. She looked back at Weiss and signaled with her head to a coffee shop at the other side of the street*

Ruby: Hold my spot, I'm gonna get you some tea with honey, for that throat of yours

*Ruby said as she walked away, Weiss gave a short nod and kept scrolling on her phone since she talked the rest of the drive there, making her voice a little horsed. Ruby walked inside the coffee shop and went into the line. She grabbed the file the giant man in front of her, had in his hands, and hid it under her dress*

???: Hmm.

Ruby: You don't have to tell me something I already know. It'll be done. I'll head there later on tonight

*Ruby said without emotion, which made the man raise an eyebrow, but for the most part ignored it, and moved out of the line, walking out of the cafe and disappearing from sight. Ruby took a breath and put the file under her dress at the back of her mind*

Ruby" Worry about that later. Just enjoy this outing for what it is. Not for what you'll do, "

Later at the opera

*Weiss owes ruby an apology. She thought she would be like her sister was at the opera. She could not be more wrong. Instead of being rude, inconsiderate, and just plain offensive. She remained quiet. She didn't break her gaze at the stage. The absolute worst she did was stretch her arms a bit, but that was really nothing. Compared to yang burping so loud that the people on the stage stopped what they were doing. Ruby was actually enjoying the show. Or at least Weiss thought she was, she couldn't tell. All she knew was that whenever she would glance at ruby, Ruby was paying attention to the show*

Weiss" Praise be to the gods! I think I finally found someone I can share the opera with! "

*Weiss thought excitedly to finally have a musical friend to bond with. Ruby, on the other hand? While she was enjoying the show. The latest song that was being staged was doing something to her*

Odysseus: How has everything been turned against us? How did suffering become so endless? How am I to reunite with my estranged? Do I need to change?

* The actor started to sing, Ruby's heart slowly started to beat faster, and she couldn't explain why. There was something in the guilt, in the man's tone, that ruby found so relatable*

Odysseus: I'm surrounded by the souls of those I've lost. I'm the only one whose line I haven't crossed
What if the greatest threat we'll find across the sea is me?

*Ruby's eyes widen a little as she starts relating herself more to the song, thinking of all the souls she condemned, all the souls she couldn't reach in time. She could feel them. She could almost see them all up in that stage. Her heart rate increased again, but her face didn't show it thanks to the medication she's on.

Odysseus: What if I'm the monster? What if I'm in the wrong? What if I'm the problem that's been hiding all along? What if I'm the one who killed you every time I caved to guilt? What if I've been far too kind to foes but a monster to ourselves? What if I'm the monster....

*Ruby's heart was beating as fast as a drum now, as the song makes her relive things she didn't want to relive, things that were hidden away in a vault of alcohol, now that she's as dry as a bone. The vault opened like a tsunami*

Odysseus: Is the cyclops struck with guilt when he kills? Is he up in the middle of the night?

*Ruby remembers the time she was ordered to help put a group of the major's merchandise in cages. She remembers their screams, their hatred for her.*

Odysseus: Or does he end my men to avenge his friend and then sleep knowing he has done him. right?

*But Ruby also remembers the huge payday she got from that. She gave it all  away to different groups of runaway merchandise from another business so they could start a new life. Ruby's heart was going so fast she felt as if other people could hear it*

Odysseus: When the witch turns men to pigs to protect her nymphs, is she going insane?

*Ruby remembers one mission where she was tasked with the death of a whole family. They were innocent. Their only crime was to speak out against the slavery and were making waves, they could've started the first steps of making such a practice outlawed, shame they couldn't do it, before the profits were starting to go down for the major, so he got Ruby to take care of that problem.*

Odysseus: Or did she learn to be colder when she got older, and now she saves them the pain?

*But after that mission, was what finally convinced Raven to train her so that she could save more people and herself from death a while longer. Ruby stopped breathing from her nose and started breathing from her mouth, but still felt as if no air was making its way to her lungs*

Odysseus: When a god comes down and makes a fleet drown, is he scared that he's doing something. wrong?

*Ruby remembers the mission where she had to help a group of the doctors in the millennium organization, with their experiments on the merchandise, she remembered how they screamed in pain, as they tested on them without any numbing agent. The unit would later be called unit 731*

Odysseus: Or does he keep us in check so we must respect him? And now no one dares to piss him off?

*But, it was that mission that made ruby figure out she can make her mind go quiet by drinking cactus juice, self medicating herself, to have some peace, and to protect herself from her own fractured brain. Ruby could use a drink right now, as her eyes were trembling, she felt as if her throat was closing up*

Odysseus: Does a soldier use a wooden horse to kill sleeping trojans cause he vile?

*Ruby remembers the mission where the major made her get rid of defective merchandise. She can see their eyes, all of them screaming, with ragged filled mouth for mercy, only to get a miracle.*

Odysseus: Or does he throw away his remorse and save more lives with guile

*But after that mission was completed, the major gave her the map of her biggest rescue mission at a shnee containment camp. That was the mission where the legend of the rose of vacuo was born. Ruby's vision was becoming blurry, her head was becoming heavy, while she was feeling lightheaded*

Odysseus: If I became the monster....

*The stage started to warp for Ruby's regret filled mind, as the actor playing Odysseus turned into ruby herself, looking right at her. Ruby froze. As the stage ruby looked straight at her, the pounding of her heart was becoming unbearable*

Ruby: and threw that guilt away. Would that make us stronger? Would it keep our foes at bay? If I became the monster to everyone but us and made sure we got home again, who would care if we're unjust if I became the

*The world started to become dark for Ruby. The only light she could see was the stage, which looked enormous from her perspective. Ruby saw all the souls she condemned and failed to come back from the dead and sing the chorus, all looking straight at her*

Souls: Monster

Ruby: Oh, ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves

* The ruby on stage reminded the ruby looking up at her. Ruby's ears stopped ringing, and she could again hear her heart racing inside of her chest as the souls opened their mouths again to sing the chorus*

Souls: Monster

Ruby: And deep down I know this well I lost my best friend, I lost my mentor, my mom, 500 men gone, this can't go on! I must get to see Penelope and Telemachus, so if we must sail through

*The actor ruby sang as she jumped down from the stage and started walking towards the real ruby. Real ruby was holding the arm rest so tightly that her knuckles were becoming white. Ruby's ear started to ring, as the best of her heart blocked any other noise from entering her head*

Ruby: dangerous oceans and beaches,
I'll go where Poseidon won't reach us, and if I got a drop, another infant from a wall in an instant so we all don't die

* The world started to then back to normal, as Ruby saw the actor singing again, but the souls didn't leave. They didn't stop looking at her. The stage ruby didn't leave either. She kept making her way to ruby*

Ruby/Odysseus: Then I'll become the monster! I'll deal the blow! And I'll become the monster like none they've ever known! So what if I'm the monster lurking deep below?

*Ruby was in the eye of the storm of her panic attack, as she kept getting memories of the missions she drowned out, they were flashing inside her head too fast to describe, but ruby could remember them all with great detail*

Ruby/Odysseus: I must become the monster, and then we'll make it home!

Souls:Monster

*The souls said in unison, they spoke no louder than a whisper, but for ruby, they might've well screamed it to her ears. Ruby could see it. She could see how she became the monster that she was. How she became special agent Rubinrose. Independent killer of the millennium organization. *

Ruby/ Odysseus: Penelope/ Penny

Soul: Monster

*Ruby's eyes widen as all the souls turn into one. It turned into her. The little girl who was laughing, the innocent girl with a horn on her head, snow white hair, and red hair. That girl that cemented Ruby's transformation into a monster. The little girl waved at Ruby and smiled at her. Ruby felt as a tear fell from her eye, and she smiled back*

Odysseus: Telemachus

Souls:Monster

*Actor ruby made it to real ruby and touched her cheek. It connected her forehead with the real ruby's forehead. Ruby saw all the people she saved because of her anger because of her hatred because she looked the other way. The real ruby closed her eyes for a second and then opened them. The world was back to normal*

Odysseus: Oh, ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves

Ruby's mind" Monster "

*Ruby thought, as the show, as she took a few breaths to calm down. It took a minute, multiple minutes, but her heart returned to normal, as Ruby repeated the last words of that song. Believing it spoke to her, with all her soul*

Back to the present

*Ruby made it to her horse named Miracle, the same miracle that shot down the defected merchandise that the major wanted her to get rid off. Ruby woke the horse up and turned her into her motorbike form. She revved miracle's engine and did a few donuts before she shot out of the garage like a rocket on a mission*

Ruby:I'll become the monster...
