*Ruby opened her mouth completely again scaring velvet a little, she placed the whole slice in her mouth and swallowed*

Ruby:alright...this story of my life takes place a year before I came to beacon...

Now

Flashback

*Ruby was at the end of a bad fight, she was bleeding heavily, could barely stand and was currently hiding as her trembling hands try to reload at least one of her guns*

Present

Velvet:what caused the fight? Like what happened to make you in that state?

Ruby:kinda ruins the mood I was creating but fine, I got this tip of where a large group of slaves were being sent before they were to be sold. I went there to try and rescue them, the tip was real but I got cocky and there was more defense then I was expecting, I managed to kill them all like the monsters they are. But I got hurt in the process, hurt bad.

Back to the past

Mike:come out little piggy, I'm not gonna hurt yah!

*Ruby heard the leader say. Ruby needed to act quick, she took a bullet putting it on her lips and opening it, she sprinkled the gunpowder on her deepest wound. She took a lighter out and pressed the fire on the powder. Ruby took a sharp breath as it took everything she had not to scream at the agonizing pain of the gunpowder cauterizing the wound. Once the wound was closed and no longer bleeding ruby grabbed defense and dashed out of the shadows*

Mike:Gotha!

*Mike pointed his gun, using his robotic eye to aim perfectly at ruby, shooting her in the abdomen*

Present

Glynda;if he had perfect aim, why did he shoot you there?

Ruby:think about the reputation he'll get if he could say that he captured the rose of vacuo alive? Don't forget I may be in beacon but there's still a large bounty on my head. I can only imagine how much I'm worth if I'm sold at the slave market

*Ruby said with a bitter laugh remembering that place and how she managed to escape it. But that's a tale for another day*

Back to the past

*ruby felt the bullet pierced her skin but she endured it, before he could take another shot ruby aimed right under his head and blew his brains out. The body fell twitching the remaining seconds he had left of life away. With a soft breath ruby kneeled down and grabbed his keys, holding her side that's been shot. She slowly made it to the locked room and opened the door, she saw the placed filled with men woman and children, both human and faunus alike, all of them locked with chains against the wall*

Ruby:for those who can understand me, I'm the rose of vacuo and I'm here to free you all, after that I'll give you directions to a place where you'll be accepted and free

Present

Ruby:I'll say it now. No, I'm not gonna tell you where that place is, that's something that I'll take to the grave with me. So don't bother asking

Back to the past

*Ruby heard a combination of cheers and crying all just thankful to be free, ruby nodded at them and started releasing them one by one, it took her a while maybe a few hours, but she did it. She gave them directions and the provisions of the slaver traders for the journey. Once outside multiple people started saying there goodbyes to the rose, some even hugging her. It was one of the few times ruby let it happen and even hug back*

Ruby:I'll see you all later friends. May your journey be without trouble

*Ruby said as she saw them off once ruby saw them leave did she finally allowed her body to collapsed with a smile on her face*

Ruby:thank God this is finally over....

*Ruby said not having the energy anymore to treat her wounds much less make it to a healer. She just crawled into a ball and let the darkness overtake her*

Scene change

*Ruby gave a soft groan as she slowly got up and looked around, she was in a cave overlooking the sunset*

???:oh your awake! Salutations!!

*Ruby turned around and saw a orange hair girl with the biggest smile she's ever seen*

Ruby:who in Sam Hill are you?

Penny:my name is Penny! I'm one of the slaves you saved!

Ruby:did I forget to give you the directions to the place?

Penny:no you did, but I didn't want to go there just yet. I saw how injured you were and knew I needed to help you

*Ruby looked down to her bandaged up abdomen with a bit of a frown, the Grimm reaper won't be getting her this day apparently. With a sigh she looked at this penny girl*

Ruby:thank you kindly, I suppose. But I should get going. places to be, slavers to kill and all that

Penny:oh but you can't!

*Penny got on top of her and pushed her down, it wasn't a hard push but it was a firm one*

Penny:you simply must rest first and recover first. I shall take care of you

Ruby: you're not gonna let this go are yah?

*The smile in in Penny's face said it all ruby sighed and just nodded*

Present

Glynda:what? That's it? No fighting, you just let her take care of you just like that?

Ruby: actually the real conversation was filled with insults and me trying to escape her clutches. But we only have so long till those pills you gave me take affect so I'm cutting the fat of the story

Glynda: ah right, continue

Back to the past

Ruby:fine! Fine. You can take care of me. But at least take me to my home. I gotta feed Zwei

Penny: sensational! Don't worry friend I'll take good care of you!

*Penny said with a happy smile, Ruby winced when Penny placed her on her back and started walking*

Penny:right o! Where is your place of residence?

Ruby:well for one it on your right, not on your left

*Penny turned around and walked the other direction, ruby trembled a little as Penny's body was cold to the touch*

Penny; right O! Let's go buddy!

Scene change

Penny:so this is where you live?

*Penny asked looking at a shack big enough to fit one person. Ruby got off Penny's back and leaned against the wall*

Ruby:yup. I live alone so why build a big home?

Penny:very true! Now where is this pet of yours?

*Ruby placed her fingers on her lips and whistled loudly. Quickly Zwei came running the big lug was already taller then ruby. Zwei stopped in front of her and ruby petted his head. Penny looked amazed and started petting the large beast*

Penny: sensational! What a big pet you have and so fluffy!

Ruby:yeah, he especially likes belly rubs. And I can see that look boy, the person just got lucky when they shot me. Go on git momma needs some rest

*Zwei moved in circles 3 times and laid himself next to the shack to act as some sort of guard dog. Penny grabbed Ruby's hand and walked her inside, there wasn't a lot of room but they made it work*

Present

Ruby;that's how I met penny, after I got healed up she just didn't leave, I don't know when but we both just settled on a routine. We lived together, eat together, save people together, hell for her I made my shack big enough to fit 2 people. For a short period of time the rose of vacuo had herself a sidekick.

*Glynda saw the smile on Ruby's face be so happy and innocent. But it quickly became a sad smile*

Ruby:It was.... it was the closest thing to being normal that I've felt for a long time

Velvet; well...what happened to her?

*Ruby's smile turned in to a frown as she looked out the window, she could see Penny's smiling in the horizon Making her frown all the more deeper*

Ruby: reality set In. It's the curse of the outlaw, we don't get a happy ending...

Back to the past

*Ruby was following penny she said that she found something incredible, they've been walking for hours. Even ruby with he high stamina was getting tired*

Ruby:Pennyfer where are you taking me?

Penny: you'll see, you'll see! Just trust me, what's wrong you don't trust your best friend? Oh I'm hurt!

*Penny said with a cheeky grin, ruby rolled her eyes and pushed her playfully*

Ruby:very funny. Can you at least tell me what it is?

Penny:nope~

*Ruby sighed as they kept waking in the middle of the night for what must've been hours. Ruby had a big stamina but even she was tired*

Penny:ruby?

Ruby:yeah?

*Ruby looked at Penny who didn't turn around, she stopped walking but kept her gaze forward*

Penny;I...I just want you to know that you're my best friend. And I love you

Ruby:I love you too penpen, you've really made this cynical girl happy this last year. But why did we stop?

*Ruby eyes widen when she snapped her head up as a light was shined on top of the two*

Soldiers:go go go!!

*an airship was right above them as soldiers jumped down to sorround them*

Ruby:shit! It's an ambush! Penny get ready!!

*Ruby said taking her guns out. And pointing around her waiting for one of the soldiers to make the first move. The soldiers all moved aside to let a man through, a man that present ruby has come to hate more then she hates raven*

Ironwood:so your the rose of vacuo, the little nuisance that's been making havoc of my operation? Your just a kid

Ruby:and you're just a bitch your point?

*Ruby said with her usual smirk, ironwood didn't react he just raised his hand and snapped his finger. Ruby looked confused then her eyes widen when Penny started walking next to him*

Ruby:penny what are you doing?! Get away from him!

Ironwood:good job getting her to us project maiden

*Ironwood said patting Penny's head. Ruby's eyes widen even more as her eyes turn as small as pin needles, she shakes her head no, not being able to come to terms with the information. A tear fell from her face as she looked at Penny who gave her a sad smile. Penny was working for ironwood*
