Chapter One : Flame Encounter

'Hello, my name is Jenny.' Smiling as I looked at myself in the mirror speaking to myself in my head. Today is the first day back to school, high school Junior year...anything can happen. Most importantly, anyone can appear in your path. I know I will be seeing my small crew there, my few friends that have pushed through the years with me. But- as my grandmother once said...'I have big wings, that love to take in others under them.' It's like a longer version of saying 'taking them under your wing.' I smiled at the image that formed in my mind at the thought, combing a strand of loose hair behind my ear as I turned away from the mirror.

I began making my way downstairs, holding my bookbag or backpack as some others call it- up high, tightly hugging my shoulders. I can't stand loose, saggy bags that just slap against you each step. Like- can you imagine running? Or let alone running from someone? You're going to die, no doubt...'What the hell am I thinking right now?' Once I made it down to the last step of the stairs, I peeked around to see who else was awake or at least downstairs.

I saw my mom hovering over the sink washing a few dishes, then my sister came into view as I took some steps further into the kitchen. Her face was leached onto her phone, ignoring the plate in front of her presenting an amazing meal just waiting to be devoured. I reached up into a cabinet grabbing myself a small glass, then opened the fridge to find- no more orange juice...'of course'. Making a dissatisfied expression, I grabbed chocolate milk instead. Don't get me wrong- I love chocolate milk, who doesn't? My tongue was just ready to soak in the tangy but sweet citrus of orange juice. "Jenny, there's a plate for you in the microwave. Eat up before you have to head out." My mother said as she piled the now clean dishes into the drying rack.

Sipping from my glass, I went into the microwave and pulled out the plate my mother claimed was there. "Thank you, mom!" I chirped happily while carrying it to the table, quickly grabbing some silverware before taking a seat. Drying her hands as she turned to face the table, our mom looked at us while letting out a calm sigh. She looked at Kaylee, who was still eye-glued to her phone and gave a short head shake before turning her attention to me. Finishing up my breakfast, I took the last few sips left in my cup. "How do you think the first day back to school this year will go?" My mom asked with a wondering head tilt. Laying my glass down, I wiped my mouth while raising my eyebrows. "Hopefully good-...I'll be crossing over into the other half of the school with the seniors. Actually- it might be a crazy day." I smiled oddly as I stood up, wrapping myself in my bookbag. My mother giggled softly, "Careful with them boys!" She teased at me as I was walking out the door. I shook my head with an eyeroll in response before shutting the door.

My eyes scanned over the scene in front of me. People leaning against cars, chaining up bikes, groups of jocks, and just a bunch of others scurrying around. An arm wrapped around mine making my attention turn towards my best friend, Taylor. "I found you, thank god!" she huffed dramatically. I giggled at her actions, beginning to make our way to the entrance of the building. The smell of school supplies, cologne, and perfumes hit my face as we stepped into the schools atmosphere. This year me and my friends will be on the opposite side of the school that we were on last year. Everyone of course gets their chances to see everyone else, but ninth and tenth grade classes were all on their own side of the building. Same for eleventh and twelfth grade classes. The hall that was connected to the front entrance marked as the splitting line.

We soon found our lockers, but unfortunately, they of course weren't next to each other. However, we can still be thankful that they are close. Taylors was just right across from mine, laid out along the mirrored wall. Before going into my locker, I glanced at the one to my right. The lock on this one really stood out, and quite frankly made me a little jealous. It's obviously a boys. 'This should be great.' My mind told me as I dug into my locker. "Is it just me- or have we entered Skank City?" I jumped at the sudden words from Taylor who was now right beside my face. My eyes shifted past her as another girls face came into view. "It's not just you, they are everywhere!" the other girl squealed sarcastically as she pointed across the hall. We all looked at each other, pausing before letting out some of the weirdest laughs that collided together.

Our laughs were interrupted by a bunch of scattering. People were either acting as if they were trying to move out the way of something or wore admired expressions while sharing whispers with others. Whatever was coming- had a lot of people either running or being attracted. My eyes finally caught view as the crowds moved back towards the lockers. Whatever was coming wasn't just whatever...it was a group of boys. By the looks of it though- the others acted as if it wasn't just the boys...it was the boy. From my view, they obviously had a reputation here at school. However, they gave off this unique vibe. Like this vibe belonged to them. There was four of them, and they each had their own facial expression, walk, and their outfits were in the same dark, gothy, bad boy category. But each had a different style. Wait a minute-...

I slowly peeked back over at the locker that had that unique lock on it. The coincidence of it looking the same as their style. 'There's no way.' My thoughts were wiped away hearing sets of shoes scooting back. Glancing back at Taylor and the other girl- who is now my locker neighbor, had moved away and started giving me awkward eye signals. Turning my attention forward, one of the boys from the group was standing right next to me. It was the one who walked in the middle of them, he stands out the most. He just stood there, staring down at me...and my dumbass just stood here looking back up at him. He gave me an odd look, as if he was trying to study me. Finally, I looked at the locker once more and swallowed my stupidity. This is his locker-...why am I standing in the way? I took some steps back "I-...sorry." giving an idiotic smile as I spoke. As he began opening his locker, he shook his head.

After the bell rang, I scurried with Taylor to our first class, which we had together. While walking away I could feel this rush, as if my body and mind knew that boy was watching me as I made my way down the hall.

Carters POV

The boys and I entered the school, we always walked along-side each other. For us, it was like a scene from a movie; someone or a gang making an entrance with some badass music playing in the background. My face always held a straight, blank emotion. Especially while walking. I haven't, nor will show any sign of interests in these sluts who roam the halls. However, it is quite hilarious watching them try.

The crowds in the hall stumbled their selves against the lockers, making way for me and the boys. As if they had any other options but to scram. Any pest who gets in the way knows the lockers would be exactly where they would end up, Face first. Down the hall, I could see three girls standing in the same spot where my locker should be. Approaching closer, two of the girls were watching me, the other was staring at my locker oddly. Without a sound I stood there next to the girl, silently watching her, waiting. The two other girls shifted their ways back, causing their shoes to squeak against the floor. At that, the one in front of me finally looked up at me. Her gaze-...caught me off guard. My eyes scanned over her face as I stood there looking down at her. No clear expression...no sign of worriedness...no fascination...not even a little blush...

After a moment of gazing at each other, she averted her eyes back to my locker as if her brain had finally realized it belonged to me. She took some steps away from me, stumbling on her own words as she apologized to me while flashing a small, an awkward smile. Shaking my head in response, I started opening up my locker. Once the bell had rang the girl scurried away with, I'm assuming her friend. My eyes slowly drifted towards her direction causing my head to tilt due to my eyes unable to go any further. That girl...is strange. How could she just stand there- right in front of me like that? Nonetheless- with that unclarified emotion...usually girls excite themselves just by looking at a picture of me. Others on the other hand, end up turning or even running the opposite direction. 'Whatever.' I locked up my locker and made my way off to wherever the hell my class is.

Jennys POV

I kept rolling my pencil between my fingertips. The girl I had met this morning that has her locker next to mine is in this class along with Taylor and I. Her name is Bethany. She keeps going on and on about how I stood up to the 'Psycho Hottie'. Hottie? Maybe. Psycho? I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean. I guess he does look like the scary type, he gives off that 'I'll kill you without a second thought' vibe. But there's no chance that he would actually do that. Besides- I didn't exactly do anything, I just stood there...in front of him...like an idiot. The eraser end of my pencil poked my cheek repeatedly as I sunk further into my mind. What if this dude really is a psycho? What if he's just actually misunderstood?

His appearance is however the same as most young psycho killers in movies or shows. The aggressive bad boy type ones though, not these creepy men out here looking like Jeffery Dahmer with his stained shirts and oversized wired glasses.

What if this dude just likes that style? Honestly, it does fit him well. Thinking of everything the others are chattering and whispering around the room about him, makes me think about my encounter with him. That look- why was he just standing there staring back at me if he really is the way people say he is? There's no way the man that stood before me was dangerous.

what if he was though?
