Chapter 3: The First Roll and What Came After
Miku's POV:
Oh my...did I really just? I don't remember ever bringing a knife to school. Is it really that bad now? Do I really hurt myself so much that I unconsciously do it as well? I could have really hurt that girl. Now I needed to run. I could never come back.
I ran down the hall and down some stairs. There was a girl standing there with a video camera. A bunch of teachers and students came running after me. They had the whole thing on video. I was a monster.
I leapt down the last flight of stairs. Tripping on my untied shoelaces, I landed on my hands and knees before sprinting off again.
Someone was blocking the door out.
I really am worthless. The girl was right. My father probably was ashamed to call me his daughter. That's probably the whole reason he left. My mother hates me because I loved music. The music wasn't enough...
I took a sharp right down another hall and ran up the stairs located there. I had nowhere to run anymore. I went all the way up to the roof and collapsed in a heap. I began to cry. I was scared of myself. What would have happened if that blonde boy hadn't yelled for me to stop? Who was it?
I tried to think back but the memory was so hazy, as if it was only a nightmare.
They would probably find me up here eventually, but they wouldn't expect me to come somewhere that pretty much trapped me so I most likely had a few hours.
I might have killed that girl. Even if she was mean to me all the time, and hurt me, I don't want to kill her. Why couldn't I control myself anymore? What's the point of even living.
Then I heard the roof's door click and my head shot up.
Oh no.
It was the boy. How had he found me? I stood and backed up, while he edged forward and smirked at me.
"Hello Hatsune." He crooned.
I glanced over at the door. I might be able to reach it if I hurried. The boy saw me looking at the door and he smiled. "No, I don't think you'll be able to get there. I've learned a thing or two from my mistake last time. This time you won't be getting away."
I backed up and felt the ledge of the roof. I was trapped.
The boy smirked again. He was right in front of me and I could smell his nasty breath. He put his hand on my cheek right where my cut was. It stung.
"Looks like it's just us..." He whispered leaning in close.
On instinct I backed away. My feet hit air and I realized what I had just done.
I was falling. It was all happening so slowly, even though I could see the ground coming closer every moment.
I couldn't help it. I actually laughed.
A voice in my mind said: "See? You were so exhausted. It will be better if you just stop breathing now."
Then I hit the ground, everything went black, and I left the world.
Len's POV:
It took me a minute to think, but I ran out of the classroom after Miku. There were teens with video cameras almost everywhere. Why the flip are they FILMING this!?
I caught sight of a long teal twin-tail just as it disappeared around a corner, and ran after her. She was going down the stairs. Probably trying to get out of the school.
I almost caught up to her when she made an unexpected turn right. I slammed into a wall when I tried to stop and then continued to run after her. She turned again and started going UP another staircase. Where was she going?
I heard a teacher coming.
He placed his hands on his knees when he reached me and took deep breaths. "Did she...come...this way?" He panted.
"No sir. She went that way. I was going this way to try to see if I could cut her off." I lied.
The teacher nodded his thanks and ran in the direction I had pointed out.
As soon as he rounded the corner I bolted up the stairs. I could faintly hear her rapid footsteps climbing further away by the second.
Finally I caught sight of her again. I opened my mouth to yell for her to come back and to tell her it was okay when Luki came through a door on the landing below me.
"Hey Len!" He yelled.
I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR YOU LUKI!
I paused.
"Len the principle wants all of us to go back to the classroom!" He called.
I glanced upwards and only just heard a door close shut. Miku was gone.
"Dang you Luki." I muttered. "Okay I just forgot that I left uh...my thing up the stairs...so I'll be right back K? Cover for me?"
"Yeah yeah, but only cause you got my backpack for me." I heard Luki laugh.
I continued my run up the stairs. As I ran I wondered which door I should go through. The door she went through sounded pretty high up. I think I'll start at the roof and work my way down.
I finally reached the roof and flung the door open to see...
Some guy with Miku. They were standing right at the edge and he had his hand on her face. I didn't like this one little bit.
I heard him say: "Looks like it's just you and me." In a tone I didn't like even more.
Then Miku jumped back.
Oh my...
Then a teacher came onto the roof. "Len and Meito I told everyone to get back in the classroom. You have no reason to be up here."
"Yes ma'am." Meito said and walked off.
I stood there in shock. I wanted to look to see if she had made it, but I knew she probably didn't and I didn't want to see...
"LEN!" The teacher yelled.
"C...coming..." I stammered and staggered over.
We were all kept in the classroom until our parents came to get us. My mom was silent the entire car ride.
At home all she said was: "Wash up for dinner okay?"
"No thanks mom. I'm not hungry. I think I'll just go to bed early." I mumbled.
She nodded a little and let me be.
I laid down in my bed and fell asleep. I can't believe it.
Miku was dead.
