Chapter 14: Just Keep Rolling

Len's POV:

I understood it all now. Well, everything except for why the days were repeating. And maybe my upcoming math quiz...

ANYWAY!

After hearing Miku tell her story, I felt even worse for her than I did before. I mean it's already rough to die a million times, but her mom left her dad and TOOK HER WITH HER. And her mom has serious alcohol issues.

I pulled Miku into a gentle hug. "It's okay Miku...you don't have to worry anymore." I said softly.

Her breathing slowed and her sobbing calmed to a slight sniff. What's more:

She didn't let go.

In fact she clung to me as if she was afraid I was going be taken from her, just like her father.

Unfortunately I knew that I would have to let her go, so I did it sooner since I knew that it would be harder if I continued to hug her.

She wiped at her eyes and smiled a little.

"We should probably get to class, or lunch depending on what time it is." I laughed.

"I think it IS lunch time." Miku giggled and pointed to the clock.

"Whoops." I smirked. "Okay well let's go. I'll get us both something to eat."

"But you got me breakfast!" Miku cried.

"And?"

"And...I guess you're getting me lunch too." Miku sighed, but for once she actually looked somewhat happy

We walked to the cafeteria and bought our lunches. Then I followed Miku to the table at the furthest end of the cafeteria. We both chatted and goofed off a little, Luki came running over after about ten minutes.

"LEN! YOU LOOK LIKE A MUMMY!" He cried, sliding into a chair and plopping his tray onto the table. "Ha! You guys look like you're going to a costume party together."

Miku strained a smile. She was used to me, but not Luki. I was surprised she didn't run away...wonder why.

And so another day of school is over. The second half of classes wasn't super eventful. I didn't want to stay late in the classroom, but Miku lost her backpack so we had to run back quick and get it.

"Here it is!" I yelled over by the teacher's desk.

"Weird. I Definitely didn't put it there." Miku laughed. She then opened it up and rifled through it. "Well nothings missing at least."

"That's good." I smiled and walked back over to the door.

It was locked.

"Um..."

"What is it?" Miku asked, walking over.

"The door is locked." I announced.

"WHAT!" Miku dropped her backpack and tried to open the door. She started to freak out. "D...did YOU lock it?" She asked and took a few steps back.

"No, Why would I have locked it?" I smirked. "I left my snacks in my backpack and I am super hungry."

Miku calmed down enough to laugh a little. "O...okay but then...who could have locked it? The doors shouldn't be locked for another half hour or so."

"I have no..." I thought about it a minute. It COULD have been Meito maybe, but he wants to keep Miku AWAY from me so that makes no sense. My suspicion blames Luki. I bet it was him.

"What? Did you figure it out?" Miku asked excitedly.

"Uh no...I don't think so..." I mumbled. "Uh...Hey! What about the window?" I cried and ran over to it. We're on the second floor, but the school has basically a thousand cherry trees planted around it. "We could climb down one of the trees!"

Miku eyed the tree warily, but nodded.

"Okay, I can go first to make sure it's safe." I opened the window.

"No, I want to go first." Miku declared suddenly and came over to where I was standing.

"Uh, okay." I helped her get out of the window and onto the tree. She grabbed a branch and then made her way down swiftly.

I climbed out of the window and made my way down too.

"Ah...freedom." I stretched my arms out.

Miku smirked. "Yeah, I didn't want to be stuck with you for hours either."

I was shocked. My eyes widened. Miku was just super sarcastic...

Miku paled. "Ah! I'm sorry That was super mean, I shouldn't have..."

I started laughing like the idiot that I am.

Miku looked confused for a minute but then she started laughing too.

"I'm sorry I didn't know that you were so sarcastic." I laughed.

"Oh I speak FLUENT sarcasm." Miku beamed and made the OK sign with her hand.

I couldn't stop cracking up. It was even better cause then Miku said: "You look absolutely ridiculous right now." When I started trying to smother my laughter and clutch my stomach from the cramp I was getting.

"Stop for a minute..." I gasped.

"Okay." Miku's face went deadpan.

I stopped laughing and took a deep breath to collect myself. But then I looked at her serious face and I burst out laughing again.

"YOU CAN'T EVEN..."

"Yeah I KNOW!" I held my side and wiped at the hysterical tears that were running down my face.

"I thought it might take you a little longer to decide to climb out the window, I should have been ready." Meito's voice came from behind me.

Miku and I choked back our laughter and turned to stare at him.

"YOU locked us in there?" I asked, definitely surprised.

"Who else?" Meito glowered.

Luki forgive me, even though you definitely would have done that if Meito hadn't gotten there first.

"I thought I was supposed to stay AWAY from Miku." I pointed out.

"These days it's hard to tell when she's left school. She's pretty stealthy." Meito shot her a glare. "So to get her out here, I stole her backpack and then locked you guys in there. And whether you were in with her or not I would be able to get MY girlfriend back." Meito smirked and winked at Miku, who stepped a little closer to me, and also looked ready to run.

"I don't think you ever really HAD her." I countered with an evil smirk of my own.

Meito lunged forward, which I was just able to avoid. I yelled at Miku to run and did the same.

Miku was ahead of me, which wasn't good. I'm pretty sure by now the truck was just about to come speeding down the road.

Miku set one foot onto the road but I was able to grab her arm just as the truck sped by.

"LEMME GO!" She screamed and ran off again.

I heard the truck's tires swerve to avoid the cat.  WELL NOT TODAY SATAN!

I ran as fast as I could and jumped at Miku, pushing us both out of the way.

The pole crashed down, narrowly missing my leg.

Miku jumped up and then extended down her hand to help me up. Her eyes were wide. "We could have just DIED." She said hoarsely.

I almost laughed. Girl you have NO idea.

Then I heard rapid footsteps coming. Meito just would NOT give up.

Miku took off again, with me a few feet behind.

We took sharp turns every which way to lose the creep.

Miku ran across a bridge and paused to regain her breath. I would reach her in a few more seconds.

She leaned against the railing, which bent back under her weight. My first step onto this bridge and I could tell it was super old...

Oh gosh.

"HEY MIKU!" I yelled.

The railing broke. Miku went flying back, and hit her head against the railing in mid-air.

She smiled sadly at me and then I think she lost consciousness.

She fell into the river.

"MIKU!" I yelled and ran down the bridge to the river. I was about to jump in when some old guy that just got there after Miku fell in grabbed my arm.

"Listen here son, it's prohibited to swim in that river." His raspy voice croaked.

"No...no no no no no not again!" I screamed.

Bubbles appeared on the waters surface.

"AAAAAAAHHHHHHGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!"

The old man looked at me like I was mentally insane.

And of course Meito was nowhere to be seen.
