Chapter twenty-three

The next month was honestly uneventful. I had grown to care and love chuck as if he were my brother. Chuck had a knack of pranking people. Nothing happened between Newt and I.

Or so I thought.

It was 3 days before the next greenie, and I was rushing for preparations. For some reason, I didn't get the supplies I needed last week, so yet we're coming the day of the greenie. Causing celebrations a day late.

I was rushing about the shack, organizing everything, trying to see if I could makeshift stuff when Newt walked in.

"Are you okay?" He asked warily. I threw my hands in the air. "This is my second celebration. ONLY SECOND! And it's already a train wreck. The greenies coming so that means the supplies comes that day, but if we do the celebration a day late then it throws off our whole working schedule. If that happens I'll have alby breathing down my neck. Then the greenie won't feel as welcomed!" I shouted. He backed away.

"Bloody... Calm down it's okay," he crooned. "No... No! It's not," I was on the verge of tears. "If it's a day late, it doesn't matter," he explained. I sighed, and paced about the rickety shack. The occasional squeak echoing. "It matters because... I don't want the greenie to feel as scared as I felt,"

He seemed to slack. "Well you're the bloody only girl," he said, trying to convince me all was well. "And how did you feel when you came?" I asked. "Scared as hell," he answered. And I muttered, "exactly,"

He advanced towards me, grabbing my arms, and tingles emerged at the small gesture. "I think you'll be fine..." He said, then leaned in, connecting his lips to mine. I stood still, unsure what to do. I tried to search my small bank of memories, but nada.

Until, it clicked to maybe kiss back. He placed his hands on my waist, and I put my arms around his shoulders. He had to lean down to kiss me, sorry for being short. In must've been 5 minutes until the doors burst open.

"Hey, did you still wanna keep the- oh" Minho interrupted, a shocked look upon his face. "I see,"

I widened my eyes, clenched my jaw and have the meanest glare as I could. If looks could kill, he'd be trying to crawl out of hell by now. He flashed a smile, "you may continue," he bowed, and backed out.

Newt turned to me. "This can't happen again,"

My heart literally sank. I felt like klunk. Hear that sound? Oh you hear nothing? Yeah 'cause my heart stopped. The air thickened around me, a cocoon of sadness. "We aren't even dating," he stated. I watched speechless. If I were to see myself, I'd probably look heart broken.

"So why don't we?"

That jolted me awake. "What?"

He was smiling now. "Let's be together," he said. I smiled, tears threatening to spill. "Of course!" I wrapped my arms around him, his warm embrace calming me down a little. "as happy as I am, I have preparations to do," I laughed sheepishly. "Alright... Go do what you bloody need to do,"

I jogged outside, trying to find Minho. "So you decided to breathe," he mocked. I rolled my eyes. "Joannah and Newt, sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-"

"We're dating," I interrupted, that should show him. "You serious?" He asked, awe struck. I nodded. "Alright! Way to go Newt!" He shouted. I gestured to myself, "ummm right here!" I rolled my eyes," any way... What did you want?" I asked.

"Are we still doing the rock throwing?" He asked, "yeah, why not,"

This bacon tastes great.

It was finally the day of the greenie. I was sitting with Newt when the alarm went off. He turned to me, "keep your bloody fingers crossed,"

We walked over to the box, sitting together for thirty minutes. This month, we didn't get any snarky comments.

The box halted to a stop, and as Newt raised, I Heard a scream from inside.

"someone... Help... Me!" The voice shouted. The voice was a boy.

Everyone seemed to glance at me, a look up pity crossing their face. Newt held my hand, "it's okay," he said, and then turned to the box. Lifting the edges, we got a look at him.

"Look at that shank."

"How old is he?"

"Looks like a klunk in a T-shirt."

"You're the klunk, shuck-face."

"Dude, it smells like feet down there!"

"Hope you enjoyed the one-way trip, Greenie."

"Ain't no ticket back, bro."

Someone lowered a rope, he hesitated, then climbed on. A swarm of hands grabbed him pulling him up. Then he heard the words he'd never forget.

"Nice to meet ya, shank. Welcome to the glade,"
