Chapter seventeen
Tears flooded the girl's eyes, as she looked through blurry vision to the boy in front of her. "How could they do it now?" She asked. I recognized the voice as my own, my vision coming into focus, and saw gally there. He looked younger. Tears were welled up in his eyes.
"It's time for me to go," he explained, stroking my face. I could feel the wet drip of salty water slip down, my senses following its path, a tickling sensation. They're tearing our family apart.
"I can't believe eventually all 3 of us are going in," I cried, "Adam told me our family's special, but I think he's just being nice. He never tells me about his family," I sigh. "Yeah, we are special, and memory or not, we will solve it," he said, then under his breath he added, "not like that's any better,"
Before we could say another word, two armed guards burst in, pulling my brother away. "Hey!" Gally yelled, "I still have time! I haven't said bye to my brother!"
"One sibling is enough," a guard mumbled.
I rushed forward, but a third guard walked into the blank room, pushing me down. Gally disappeared behind the doors. The third guard lay hovering over me, turned to leave, then turned around a second before and stated,
"WICKED is good,"

"Joannah!" I awoke to newts yelling, and an assortment of boys in front of me. I rubbed my head, the memories rushing back. The fight. And the stupid rock. Groaning, I sat up. Newt smiled, "you okay?" He asked. I nodded, "could be worse"
I stood up to be met by the stern face of Alby, his towering figure condescending, as if chastising me for my wrong doings. "No hurting other gladers, forgot the tour already?" Alby scolded, my mind flashing to the memory of the tour.
1. No slacking
2. No hurting another glader
3. No leaving the glade
1 out of 3, good enough. For the sake of everyone here, they should be thankful I'm a hard worker. "He deserved it," I answered. "You knocked one of them out," he spat.
"Actually that was me," newt stepped forward sheepishly. A small look of shock crossed albys face, "what?"
"He hit her over the head with a rock!"
As they argued, my eyes wandered over to the box, still sitting, closed. "How long was I out?" I interrupted.
"About 5-10 minutes," newt explained, his voice tense from fighting. I pointed down, "theres a greenie down there, your little argument can wait," I rolled my eyes. Alby stiffened, "newt," he grunted, nodding to the box. He gently pushed me back, as him and another boy pulled it opened, there hands clenched around the metal enclosure. Light flooded through the box, and eager faces looked round, like a kid during Christmas.
A small, round heap lay on the floor, a patch of brunette peaked on top, a curly mess. A spherical face lifted up, eyes wide with terror, small tears welling up. I peaked over the edge, and seemed to visibly sag.
It was a boy.
My expectations of being the only girl increased, and I hoped there would be a pattern of boy girl boy. I walked a few feet from the box, sat down, my hands holding my head. I caught snips of conversation.
"Poor kid,"
"Look at that piece of Klunk!"
"Slopper no doubt,"
"So young... Such a shame..."
I looked up to find the owner of the last comment. When I found him, he had a frown placed on his face, a slowly shaking head. I recognized him as a runner, one of Adams friends. He turned to me, saw my despair, and weakly smiled.
He then turned his gaze to the floor and walked away. Adam was a good friend to many, and losing him caused a lot of pain.
The commotion at the box was huge, the stout couldn't get over the edge, millions of hands pulling him up, and I smiled at the sight. I saw Gally walk over, to lift him, but then get pushed, and topple of the edge. He landed with a clang inside the box, and I started cracking up.
Shakily walking up, I looked over the edge to him being sprawled out. He was face first, and I could hear him groaning. I kept laughing, a few Gladers joining me. Then, when he stood up, he slipped over supplies, and fell once more.
I laughed so hard it hurt. That pain in your stomach that feels like your crushing it, then laughing so hard no sound comes out, and you gasp for breath because you can't focus.
It felt nice, from the usual.
I was on the floor, rolling in laughter, every one joined, after getting the pudgy boy up. I'm my fits of laughter, I rolled of the edge, and landed on top of Gally with a bump, causing me to laugh harder. I don't even know if that's physically possible.
I heard Gally chuckle, before pushing me off. We helped eachother out, and took a look at the huddled greenie.
I nodded, "sup,"
I was serious once more, hands on hips, trying to study his expression. His head lifted to a view of a tear streamed face.
He was stout, chubby, had sad brown eyes and a curly head of hair. "Who are you?" He asked in a small voice, then added eyes wide, "who am I?" He sobbed.
Any laughter that was there had vanished, and instant longing reached forward to this boy. I just wanted to take care of him, protect him. He looked 12 or 13.
"Hey, hey, it's okay," I crooned, reaching down to sit next to him. "We've all been through this Klunk, greenie, all never had memories, woke up in that shuck box,"
He looked at me in confusion, "shuck? Klunk? Greenie?" He asked, he cried some more, "I'm so confused,"
A few laughs arose in the crowd and I felt hot. I rose on anger, "hey! You saw that fight! Stop! He's scared, and I will protect him! Who wants to mess with me?" I screamed. They immediately stopped, their gaze following the floor.
"They could easily hurt you," the greenie mumbled. "Yeah, and I'm the into girl here. Before you came, a few of us had a disagreement..." I pointed to the wound in my head. He gasped, "they did that? The let them do that?" He asked wide eyed. I chuckled. "No... It's against the rules," I laughed, "but being the only girl here or not, doesn't mean I can't kick their butts,"
A small smile arose on his face, a light thing making me want to hug him.
Let him be happy forever.
"So can you remember your name?" I asked. He shook his head, smile gone. More tears falling.
"Look, I'm Joannah, you can call me Joanie. Just try to focus," I said, and he closed his eyes.
He muttered something under his breath before his eyes shot open.
"What?" I asked, eager.
He turned to me, smiling.
"Chuck,"
