The Rogue’s Love
Chapter Twenty-Three: Sasori’s Fight
The day quickly got hot as I watched the two trudge forward. Whereas, I comfortably laid on the flying sculpture. I guess Deidara’s clay wasn’t too bad once put to good use.
“They’ll be coming, won’t they?” I asked, propping my head up. Sunagakure was about to lose a vital military power, not to mention their Kazekage. It would be stupid of them to not put up a fight. However, by playing it safe, they were still guaranteed their lives. I’m not sure if the standing shinobi confined in their safe little villages could last in a fight with just these two.
Deidara shrugged, as if a village of ninja chasing after them was really no big deal. What was I saying? They should be used to it, by now.
I sighed, staring up at the sky. It was so blue, today. Not even a cloud in sight.
“Gaara!” I winced at the sound of the agonized filled voice. I knew that voice. I sat up to see Kankuro bravely standing before the two members. And, by his posture, I could easily tell he was ready for a fight ̶̶̶ to the death.
I jumped down from the jutsu-animated bird, curiously watching to see how this would all play out. Was he really going to fight them? Alone?
Kankuro assessed the enemy, sizing the two up. And, when his eyes settled on me, the pain in my chest nearly doubled as he never once eased up on his glare.
“They’d said you’d gone rogue,” he spoke, addressing me. “But, I didn’t believe them. Or, rather, didn’t want to. It surely shocked me when word got to Gaara. Y’all were once friends, right?” I winced as he brought up my ties to the young Kazekage.
“I wouldn’t say friends,” I mumbled, casting my eyes down. And, even if we had been, that was all in the past. I belonged to the Akatsuki, now. But, the truth was, I didn’t want to be. I didn’t want to be apart of this. For whatever reason, the organization was collecting tailed beasts. And, for whatever that reason was, it was damned well not a good one.
He snorted, correcting his stance into more of an offensive position. I closed my eyes, steadily breathing through my nose.
Ten.
“Raikou, get out of the way,” Deidara hissed, moving in front of me as a shield.
Nine.
“They’ll never forgive you, you know. Sunagakure will be forced to treat you like an animal, Raikou. They’ll hunt you down. And, you’ll be condemned to the same fate as these criminals.” Kankuro confidently yelled, the clatter of wood telling me he was on the verge of attacking. Just as I knew Sasori had already figured out all of the young puppeteer’s weakness, I knew that the same red head was also highly bemused by Kankuro trying to persuade me.
Eight.
“Dead by morning,” he continued.
Seven.
“Raikou, what are you doing? Don’t just stand there, move!”
Six.
Kankuro cockily laughed, “Looks like someone has a death wish.”
Five.
Sasori’s deep voice called to me, urging me to move; along with Deidara’s more frantic one. But, really, I didn’t see the danger.
Four.
Even using Deidara as a shield, I was still in the line of getting attacked. There were ways around him….or, through.
Three.
The wind shifted, telling me that Kankuro had finally made his move. But, it wasn’t aimed at me. And, compared to Sasori, he was nothing but a mere amateur when it came to puppets.
Two.
Deidara having momentarily forgotten about me, was riled up; itching to fight. After all, why should Sasori get to have all of the fun?
One.
I slowly opened my eyes, feeling the air still around me. And, as if everything were put into a new perspective, things seemed to slow down. I saw Kankuro try to make what would seem to be a final blow against the master of all puppets, himself.
Too bad Sasori was quicker.
The young sand shinobi had underestimated Sasori on his appearance. Which, really, made him all the more stronger. Whereas Kankuro saw his disguise as the a weak point, it was really the ultimate defense.
“Raikou? Didn’t you hear Sasori? We’re leaving!” Deidara yelled. But, not of urgency. Rather, in a way that said, ‘I really don’t want to piss off Sasori’.
“I’m not leaving without him.” I stubbornly folded my arms over my chest, pointing my nose away from the persistent blonde. He sighed.
Deidara took a step closer, only pissing me off.
“Don’t you dare touch me,” I warned. Only, he didn’t listen. As Deidara reached out to my waist, I discreetly manipulated the air around him, creating a small cut on his cheek.
Deidara’s eyes turned to slits as he jumped back, not suspecting me to attack him. “There’s no time for your games, Raikou. We have to get Gaara to the base.”
“Who’s playing?” I retorted back, not willing to move an inch. He rolled his eyes, and lurched forward. If he hadn’t of jumped at the last moment, we would have fell to the ground.
“Put me down!” I yelled as he slung me over his shoulder, having already landed on his stupid bird. He ignored me, setting me down when we were high enough off of the ground for me not to escape.

“Sasori can handle himself. He’s not the one we have to worry about.”
“What are you trying to say?” I glared.
He snorted, “I swear, you two act like I don’t have ears.” I numbly stared at him as what he was trying to tell me finally sunk in.
He knew.
“Dei…I…” I chewed on my lip, unsure of what to say to him. Was he mad? Would he tell everyone? Could I just cry to him?
Deidara placed a comforting hand on my shoulder. “Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me.” I sighed, relieved, until he continued. “Although, if I were you, I’d be scared of Jesshika. You can pass it off as bloating for now. But, you won’t be able to hide that thing forever.”
My eye twitched as I let my voice drop scarily low, “I’m not showing yet, asshole.”
