Chapter Twenty-Four: The End
The Rogue’s Love
Chapter Twenty-Four: The End
The wait for Sasori to come back was almost unbearable. Several times Deidara had to calm me down. And, several times had my anxiety just kick in, all over again. I knew Sasori would be okay. In all truths, Kankuro really was no match for him. So, why was I getting so antsy?
Deidara lightly tapped me, smiling, “He’s back.”
Sasori grunted, ignoring me. “Let’s just get this over with, eh?”

Somewhere along the preparations to extract the tailed-beast from Gaara, I had fallen asleep. And, when I awoke, again, I was surprised to find of light blue orbs staring into mine.
I screeched, trying to get away from the blonde. Where had he come from?
“Hey, guys! She’s awake!”
I sat up, chewing on my nails. How could this have possibly happened? There was no way they could have gotten to me without Sasori or Deidara knowing. So, where were they?
The pinkette kneeled down beside me, regulating my pulse. “Naruto, don’t scare her like that. She’s been through enough, already.” Sakura continued to examine my body, the crease in her forehead deepening as her glowing hands passed over my abdomen.
Naruto cocked his head to the side, smiling. “It’s a good thing we got here when we did. No telling what kinds of things they could’ve done to her!” Sakura nodded in agreement, worry crossing her face. They had actually thought they saved me. How…dense.
I frowned, addressing Sakura. She was, after all, the more intelligent of the two. “What happened?”
“When we came, you were already passed out on the floor. Naruto pursued the blonde member, but he got away.” I nodded, relieved to find out that Deidara was okay. Not that Naruto could’ve done much damage, anyways. Deidara was an S-ranked criminal, and Naruto was but a mere genin.
“And, the other?”
“Granny Chiyo and I--”
Naruto interrupted her, proudly slapping the annoyed kunoichi on her back. “Sakura took care of him! You don’t have to worry about the Akatsuki, anymore, Raikou! Believe it!”
My breathing slowed as my chest swam with emotion. Took care of?
“Where…where is he?” I croaked, almost succumbing to my emotions. He was okay. Sasori had to be okay.
Sakura pointed to a figure lay a few feet away, twin swords sticking out of his chest.
“S-Sasori?” I numbly collapsed besides the man, his red hair fanned across his face. This wasn’t real. I would wake up, any moment now, and this would all be just a really, really bad dream.
“I told them you were our prisoner. It looks kind of suspicious you telling me goodbye, doesn’t it?” I shook my head, not wanting him to see my cry. But, all my attempts seemed futile, now. Regardless, the tears fell down, hitting Sasori’s cheeks.
“You promised me you were going to be there! Sasori, what am I supposed to do with the baby? You said you would be there!” I accused, gripping his hand in my own. He couldn’t leave me. Not when I’ve finally decided he was what I wanted most.
He sighed, squeezing my hand, “I promised I would protect you two, even if it killed me.” He paused, his warm brown eyes capturing my tear filled ones, making my chest erupt with more pain filled emotion than before. “And, this is me keeping my promise.”

“Hey, Raikou, are you okay?” Sakura asked, slowing down to match her pace with mine. Sasori had kept his promise. These ninja had believed him. And, having once been a trusted kunoichi among the Leaf, I would be welcomed back. If not as a ninja, then at least as a standing citizen.
“I’m fine,” I spoke coolly, trying to keep my pain hidden away from the naïve girl. What would she know? She’s the one that took the man I loved away from me.
