Chapter Five: The Puppet Master

The Rogue’s Love

Chapter Five: The Puppet Master

I groaned, sunlight streaming through some unknown crack, irritating my eyes. I didn’t remember falling asleep, or anything else for that matter.

My eyes opened to reveal a very dark room, not very opened. Where was I? The only thing I could remember was talking with Sasori, and even then it wasn’t much of a conversation. What had happened, afterwards?

I sat up from the bed, taking inventory of my clothing. Everything seemed intact, nothing had been obscured. My eyes then fell to the floor, only to see a huddled figure sleeping at the edge of the bed. Was that…Sasori? I couldn’t help but to smile at his sleeping face, free of any negative emotions. Innocent. I had to bit my lip to keep from laughing. Who could imagine?

Without really thinking, I bent over to brush the hair out of his face. I had hoped it to be a feather light touch. I was too naïve to think that an S-ranked criminal wouldn’t have felt such a thing. Being in the safety of his own room, you would think he would let his guard drop. To be ill at ease, even if it were only to sleep. My mistake.

In a moment’s notice, the thought to be sleeping figure was gone, making its presence known against my back. His kunai pressed into my neck, almost pushing hard enough to draw blood. I couldn’t help but to be surprised. He could have killed me just then, and I wouldn’t have noticed.

“S-Sasori?” I gulped, very much valuing my life. The pressure against my neck lessened, and he sighed in my ear. “You know, you really shouldn’t mess with me when I’m sleeping.”

I rubbed my neck, quite wary of the man that has yet to release his hold on me. “You don’t say?” I rolled my eyes, hearing his raspy chuckle behind me.

“Don’t you be upset, Raikou.” He laid down on the bed, watching me carefully. “I mean, you were asking for it.” I snorted.

“How did I know you were gonna go super ninja on me? I barely touched you.” He eyes lighted up, smiling a smile that told me he was up to no good. But, then again, when was he ever?

“That leads to another problem. Your reason for touching me, being?” His voice told me he was amused at my actions, not actually thinking them through. But, when he quirked his eyebrow, I knew he meant business. Wanted serious answers. Ones that I was not liable to give.

“You had a… uh….” I scratched the back of my head, thinking of possible scenarios that would possibly get me out of this mess. “A bug! There was an icky bug on you, and I thought I was being kind to knock it off of you. I guess I’ve learned my lesson.”

“You’re lying,” he dead panned, propping his head on his hand. Well, I guess it wasn’t that hard to configure. I mean, it took me long enough, and, I couldn’t have come up with a better excuse? I deflated, suddenly feeling pathetic.

“So?” I challenged, raising one eyebrow. If he wanted answers, he was going to have to force them out of me. Saying such trivia things out loud was too embarrassing. I couldn’t let him hold my attraction towards him over my head for as long as I was here. It would be too excruciating.

“Raikou, Raikou,” He tutted. I was just starting to wonder if he liked saying my name. Not that I minded. The way he said it made me believe that it was actually worth saying. In other words, I liked it. “There’s more than one way to get answers, you know.”

I laughed, playfully hitting him. “Sasori, you so funny.”  When his serious gaze didn’t let up, my own mood seemed to simmer down. “Oh…you were serious…” He smiled tightly, “Should I resort to more drastic measures, or will you tell me?”

Rubbing my chin, I pretended to think about it. “Neither!” I shouted, running for the door. Inches away my body stopped obeying my orders, suddenly moving of its own accord. My demands being completely ignored. Sasori sighed, fiddling with his fingers.

“What the f--”

“I’m a puppet master,” The bored look on his face told me he thought nothing of it. I, on the other hand, thought this was quite impressive. And annoying.

If only I had known this sooner.

“That’s great and all, now, stop.” He smiled, a sarcastic but, dazzling smile. It took me a few moments to actually put myself back together and force myself to stop staring. “I would love to…as soon as you tell me why you were touching me. Not answering truthfully just goes to show how impure and creepy your actions were. And, if I’m not careful, are.” My cheeks flushed, an anger rising in my chest that only he seemed to create.

“It’s not like that, and you know it!” He arched an eyebrow, his hands doing walking motions, making me walk closer to him. “Oh? Do I?”

I was never good in situations like these. When put in an uncomfortable situation, I would usually flee the premises. Run away. One technique I have undoubtedly failed. I seemed to be doing a lot of that lately. Failing.

“You know, Rai-chan, I can make you do a lot more embarrassing things.”

“Oh, look at the one who’s impure, now.” I muttered. He simply shrugged, not denying my accusations. Rather, embracing them. “I never said mine weren’t.” My hand moved itself to my shirt, slowly lifting to reveal more and more of my stomach.

“Okay, okay!” I caved, suddenly panicking; heart hammering in my chest. “It’s not rape if you enjoy it,” Of course he would use that to his advantage. Always.

“I was just moving your hair out of your face to get a better view. You looked uh…rather…attractive.” My voice squeaked out the last word, showing his how childish I really was. It took him less than five seconds for the laughter to begin, making me blush a deep crimson. “Really? That’s it? I went through all of that, just because you wanted to get a better view of my face? Couldn’t you just have said something? I could be sleeping, by now.” He shook his head, making a curtain of hair fall in front of his face. “Pathetic.”

And, he doesn’t even care that I just called him attractive? Typical.

“Well, if you undo your jutsu, I’ll be on my way. I’m sorry I’m too pathetic for the ‘Almighty Sasori’.” I spoke bitterly, getting an over-whelming feeling  to disappear, again. My voice sounded harsh, but you could hear the hurt behind my words.

“Oh, oh God. Are you seriously offended?” He rolled his eyes, throwing his head back. “You really are something else…” He stared at the ceiling, looking deep in thought. Yet, I was set in a trance. There was just something about him that uttered the word ‘perfect’ whenever I looked his way. Overlooking the fact that he was an S-ranked criminal- and some obvious character flaws. But, his being as a whole. What would be to change about him?

His eyes fell on mine, still mulling over things over. I couldn’t help but think that there was some inner commentary going on about me. Would they be bad things? Or worse; good?
