Episode 6: Sky Spire

(Aragonite's POV)
Meteorite and I had made two more secret missions without being caught out but, tonight, I was in a rush and I'm not sure if I was as careful tonight.
The moon shined bright as I ran across the sand, not looking back. I knew someone was following me but I didn't care. I was almost at the warp pad. Meteorite was waiting for me, as usual.
"What is it tonight?" I asked.
"Someone is in a certain place trying to get a gem that holds the power of the earth itself!" She replied.
"So really if anyone holds it they can create anything out of nature."
"Pretty much."
I looked behind me. A dark shape was just disappearing into the shadows. I ignored it. I nodded to Meteorite and she stepped onto the warp pad. I stepped up beside her. The familiar bright light engulfed my vision as we warped to our mission.
We stepped off of the warp pad and gasped at what we saw. The warp pad was surrounded by jungle but it ended at a large field, going miles and miles into the distance. A path cut through the jungle leading onto the field. In the very edge of my sight i saw two mountains leading off into what looked like a canyon. Like fangs of a large serpent. Meteorite pointed toward the mountains.
"There," she said, "that's where we have to go."
I started walking toward the mountains when I heard the warp pad go off. I stopped.
"Meteorite?" I said.
"I'm here." She replied touching my shoulder.
I whipped around. Standing on the warp pad looking at us with a surprised expression was Garnet. I threw my hood off revealing my face.
"Aragonite," Said Garnet in a slightly surprised tone, "how long have you been doing this?"
"Three nights," Replied Meteorite , "well I guess if you're here you might as well tag along."
Garnet, Meteorite and I traveled endlessly across the open field toward the mountains. We passed rivers and ponds. The moonlight reflected off of the surface of the water making it sparkle like gemstones. We ran by until we reached the mountains.
"Hey I know a way that we can conquer this canyon." I said. I 'super' jumped up onto the canyon wall.
"This way we won't get caught in 'potential' traps."
Garnet and Meteorite followed me. We walked on the wall for what seemed like hours when we reached a large building extending far into the sky.
"Sky Spire!" Said Meteorite getting excited, "let's go, let's go, let's go!"
She slid down the slope toward the entrance, and headed inside.
"She's in a hurry isn't she?" I said to Garnet. She nodded as we followed Meteorite into the spire. I suddenly noticed a dark figure staying close to the shadows created by the walls. I headed inside the spire closing the door.

(Meteorite's POV)
There was nothing but stairs lots and lots of stairs all against the wall so it spiraled to the top. I couldn't take this. I shapeshifted into my griffin and gestured for the others to get on. Aragonite jumped on while Garnet started to go up the steps.
"What are you doing," I asked her, "that is going to take forever."
Garnet looked at me smoothly. Then super jumped up the steps and landed three flights up.
"Well that works." Aragonite said with a grin. I rolled my eyes, spread my wings and flew up the stairs overtaking Garnet in a second. I flew up and then started to get tired. I had never carried anyone on my back before. I started to lose altitude and fall. My eyes were slowly closing and just I passed the thirteenth flight and something hit me. Then darkness took me.
I woke up to see Garnet and Aragonite looking at me.
"What is it?" I asked. I clutched my head. It throbbed badly.
"Are you OK?" Asked Aragonite.
"Yes I'm okay," I replied, "what happened."
"You passed out." Said Garnet. I looked at her.
"I passed out!"
Garnet nodded. I looked up the spire. Now that I looked closely, I could see small holes in the walls. Dispensers! I touched my neck feeling something like a pin or a dart there. A dart...
"Tranquilliser dart!" I yelled. Aragonite jumped and looked at me.
"What?" She said. I yanked out the dart wincing in pain. I held it up for Garnet and Aragonite to see.
"That's why you passed out!" Said Aragonite, "so of one hit you how come one didn't hit me?"
"I don't know." I said. I looked up at the holes. One had definitely gone off. I didn't know how it had hit me instead of Aragonite but I am glad that it had.
I got up and shapeshifted back into a griffin. This time Garnet hopped on as well. It was harder to fly but I could manage. I slowly edged up toward the dispensers and stuck a talon out in the middle of it. As soon as my talon hit centre there was a click and darts shot out of the holes. I drew my talon away as quick as I could, thankfully nothing hit it. Garnet suddenly super jumped off me and I went falling from the force. I flapped wildly and started gaining height again. I kept flying up and up, and I passed the dispensers. I felt a pinching pain in my foreleg but I ignored it, pulled it out and kept flying. I reached the top far earlier than Garnet. When she reached the top I grinned cheekily at her.
"I win." I say. She just said nothing and turned around. I turned to see what she was looking at. I gasped as I saw a shimmering pedestals with a glintering gem on it. Then I noticed a dark figure climbing over the edge onto the platform. Someone had followed us...

(Aragonite's POV)
It was beautiful. A multi coloured gemstone sat in the golden plate on top of the pedestal. Earth gem! I stepped toward it then stopped. Something dark moved to my left. It turned and saw the same dark figure I saw lurking outside the spire.
"Walking on the walls," It said, "pretty smart for amateurs like yourselves. Hehe."
I summoned my blades.
"Hey! We're not amateurs. We are the Crystal Gems. And we are here to stop you from getting that gem." I said pointing to the nice gem in the plate, "and we won't stop until we do."
"Great speech but ain't gonna happen my friends." He said with a smirk. He looked as if he had summoned his weapon and I looked at his hands. Long straight claws were encasing his fingers and they looked deadly.
"Good luck with stopping me," he said, "but luck won't get you anywhere."
He ran at us and slashed his claws along my face. I growled and ran at him swinging my blades at his arms. He dodged but one swing hit home. He yelled in pain and looked at me glaring with hatred. He glanced at something to my left. I turned to see what it was and in that moment I heard him leap for the gem. I whipped around in time to grab his leg and stop him. He crashed to the ground his cloak coming off. The breath was knocked out of him.
"Why? Why did you do that?" He rasped. He crawled away from me and leaned on the pedestal. Then he took off his hoodie and he was breathing heavily. I gasped and so did Meteorite. His face was white with specks of sky blue. His eyes were a light mint green and his hair was white and blue. On his elbow was a glittering gem.
"Howlite!?" Meteorite and I said at the same time.
"How did you know my name?" He asked us. Me and Meteorite looked at each other. Then we threw off our hoodies.
"The reason we know you is because you know us." I said looking at him with my amber gaze.
"Meteorite and Aragonite!" He said surprised, "I thought you were both dead!"
