Episode 5: Secret Night Mission

(Aragonite's POV)
It had been three days since the incident with Kyanite. I hope she's dead. I thought. To take my mind off that, I looked around the beach and went to explore the far side. Meteorite came running up to me.
"What you doing?" She asked.
"I want to explore the far side of the beach!" I said, "let's go!"
I raced Meteorite over to the far side. When we reached it Meteorite was panting hard.
"How....how are you so.....fast!" She managed.
"I dunno," I replied, "but we made it."
"Just a sec.....I'm taking a.......breather."
Meteorite flopped on the sand taking in deep breaths. I looked around the beachside and then felt a tingling like something was calling me.
"Aragonite?" Meteorite said. I didn't answer I had spotted a cave opening and I had started walking toward it.
"Meteorite look." I said pointing toward it.
A strange, vague pearl coloured glow was coming from the cave. It cast a pulling effect on us as we drew closer and closer. We rounded a corner and stared into the cave. We both gasped. Glittering in the rising sun was a large, intact purple warp pad. I looked at Meteorite and she looked at me.
"Do you know what this means?!" She said.
"I dunno. What does it mean?" I replied.
"We can have our own adventures!"
A zap of realisation flashed throughout my body. I couldn't suppress my laughter and I jumped in the air.
"We can have a mission soon." I said.
"Tonight." Suggests Meteorite.
"Tonight?"
"Yes"
I ran back toward the temple.
"Meet you here tonight." I said.
"Ok." Meteorite agreed.

I waited in my room for two hours after the sun had set. Everyone should be in their rooms and Steven should be sleeping. I grabbed a nearby black cloak and put it on before I exited my room and tiptoed toward the door. No one stirred as I opened the door and hurriedly ran across the beach, my cape flapping in the wind revealing my feet. But it didn't matter. I was so close to the cave. I looked ahead of me and barely saw a dark figure standing in front of the mouth of the cave. Meteorite turned to me as I reached it.
"Ready?" She asked.
"Ready as I'll ever be!" I said. We stepped inside the cave and slowly approached the purple warp pad. Meteorite gestured for me to go first. I stepped lightly onto the pad and then I was on it. Nothing happened. No explosions, no trick, no malfunction, not even a crack, even though it's old. Meteorite stepped onto it as well and nodded for me to do the warping. I thought of an environment and suddenly my vision engulfed in bright purple light.

(Meteorite's POV)
I opened my eyes to see where we had warped. It was dark but all I could see was orange sand all over the place. I looked over at Aragonite.
"This is the place for our first mission?" I asked.
"Yes." She replied. We walked on the sand looking out for something that could be our mission to get. The heat of the desert made me dizzy and tired.
"What are we looking for exactly?" I asked Aragonite.
"A corrupt Gem or something like that." She replied.
"So either a corrupt Gem or an experiment."
"Yeah. Something like that."
I shuddered as I thought of the experiments. Gems forced to fuse, it wasn't right. I would one hundred percent rather fight a corrupt Gem than an experiment. They were creepy and scared the shit out of me every time they showed up. Imagine having a painting of one of those on a wall and trying to sleep looking at it. I thought. I tried to focus on the mission, but every time I thought of the experiments I felt faint. Finally we heard a sound, a mournful, hoarse sound. I drew out my weapon, my Black Staff, and readied myself for what was coming.
I breathed a sigh of relief as a giant corrupt Gem came pounding toward us down the canyon we were in. The two of us were too small to beat that so we decided on something else. I ran my hand over my gem and so did Aragonite. We neared each other and held out our hands. My gem was glowing so bright and when Aragonite's hand touched mine the light engulfed my vision and in that moment we fused.

(Fire-Black Opal's POV)
I stood up to my full height. I was eye-level with the beast in front of me. I knew only one way of beating this creature. I summoned two of Aragonite's blades and Meteorite's staff. I threw them up into the air and, as I watched, the merged into a black and orange glinting pickaxe. Not the most impressive weapon but it'll do. I swung the pickaxe at the beast's face. Hearing it scream I knew I had hit home. The corrupt Gem lunged for me arms outstretched. I tried to get away but massive weight suddenly crashed on top of me. I crashed to the ground, the breath knocked out of me. I tried to push myself up but the creature was crushing me. I thought of a move that just popped into my head. I relaxed and made it look like I was dead. The creature loosened its grip on me and in that second I pushed myself up and rolled over out of the Gem's reach. I jumped up and drove my pickaxe hard into its head. I shook for a second then screamed. It's scream abruptly cut off as the Gem disappeared with a puff of cloud. It's Gem fell to the ground with a thunk. Then I unfused.

(Aragonite's POV)
I looked at the Gem on the ground. I picked it up, bubbled it and sent it to my room.
"Let's go home!" I said. Meteorite nodded and we both headed toward the warp pad.
"Look at the sky!" She said. I looked east. The sky was starting to lighten.
"Hurry!" I yelled. We sprinted over to the warp pad and warped back home. When we saw the cave walls we dashed out of the caves and toward the temple. We slowed our pace as we neared the temple and just as we reached the steps Pearl came out the door.
"Where have you two been?" She asked.
"Oh. For a walk." I replied. Pearl nodded and retreated back inside. I turned to look at Meteorite. She grinned at me. This was the start of awesome adventures together. Just me and Meteorite.
