Episode 4: Kyanite
(Fire-Black Opal's POV)
I land on the sand of the beach and sigh with relief. I made it! Looking at the ocean in front of me, I sort of wish I could have poofed Kyanite. I will next time!
I look around. The breeze ruffles my hair and I see distant seagulls flying over the sea. Then I notice two Gems beside me. They look familiar. Shit! Then I separate.
(Aragonite's POV)
I step back, away from Garnet. I glance to see if Amethyst does something. Seeing me scared, Meteorite steps in between us block me from Garnet.
"Impressive," Says Garnet, "you fused."
Amethyst runs up to me.
"Wow who were you?" She asks.
"Fire-Black Opal." I say.
"Wow!"
Amethyst runs away to tell Pearl. I roll my eyes watching her go. I turn to Meteorite who is frantically searching herself for something.
"I had it. Where is it?"
"What's up?" I say.
"Nothing!" She replied, "I lost a gemstone."
"I'll help you find it." I promise. Pearl came running up to us.
"You fused!?" She said.
"Yes," I replied, "into Fire-Black Opal."
"And I think we have to do it again." Said Meteorite walking up to us. She pointed to the ocean.
"I've lost something and we have to get it back."
(Kyanite's POV)
I glared angrily at Malachite's empty hands. How did they get away? How? I looked around to see if they had returned to the water, but all I could see was the greenish blue hue of the sea. I realised they were too smart for that.
Then something sinking in the water caught my eye. It was a blue and white gemstone cracked in half. I swam over to catch it. I took a close look at it. Then I realised what it was. It wasn't just a fancy crystal, it was a Gem, a living Gem, cracked in half. This Gem has to be contained. I looked at it then swam down toward the Caves. I had heard a rumour from somewhere that if a Gem was cracked or broken they could repair themselves once. I shuddered. I did not want another small Gem to deal with. I looked down toward the Caves and found that it had caved in. I screamed in rage. Those Gems have done enough damage.
"MALACHITE!" I yelled. She came swimming over to me.
"We are going somewhere else," I said, "follow me."
I looked around then swam west, with Malachite right behind me. It was unsettling to have a Gem five times the size of you following you. I shuddered a little.
It felt like days until I saw the ocean bed rising up to an island. I checked the surface to see if anyone had followed us but I saw no one. I stepped onto the land and felt the soft sand beneath my feet. I looked up to see a large tower made from a sort of calcite stone, my new fortress. I head inside and gesture for Malachite to follow. I find a glass jar and drop the broken Gem inside. I ran over to a closed door and opened it. Seeing the room inside, I jumped in glee.
Suddenly I felt the ground shake. Something big is coming. Or someone.
(Fire-Black Opal's POV)
I swam beside Alexandrite, thinking about the lost Gem.
Why would she take it. My Meteorite side asked.
Just to be horrible. Replied my Aragonite side. I turned my head to glance at Alexandrite. Or, where she should have been. Suddenly the ocean gave a giant shake and I knew she had leaped out of the sea onto land. I looked ahead of me and saw the sea bed slowly rise. Land!
I swam up and out of the ocean, seeing Alexandrite glaring at Kyanite who had her back to the nearest window. She had some sort of jar in her hands and, as I looked, I saw a sort of cracked Gem in it. That's mine! I swam toward the shallow water and, when my feet touched the sand, I super leaped out of the ocean and onto the beach. With a scowl on my face, I stormed into the fortress and went up a flight of stairs to reach the room Kyanite was in. I burst through the door, frightening Kyanite so she dropped the jar.
"NO!" I yelled lunging for the jar. I caught it in my hands and drew it toward me.
"Oh no you don't!" Says Kyanite snatching the jar from me, "I believe this belongs to me!"
Full with rage, I rose to my full height.
"No!" I said, " It belongs to ME!"
Kyanite backed away a little then put the jar on a table. She then turned to face me and pushed me toward the door.
"You aren't invited here. Leave please."
I just stood there and glared at her. Then I raised a fist to punch her. That's when she slid out a hidden knife and stabbed me in the chest.
(Meteorite's POV)
I fell to the floor and looked around for Aragonite. Kyanite stood beside me smiling cruelly. I gasped when I see Aragonite's Gem on the floor beside me. Kyanite poofed her! I glared up at Kyanite. She picked up Aragonite's gem and bubbles it. I gasp as she sends it away. Then she turns to me,
"Your turn." She says gleefully. Then she punches me clean in the centre of the face. Darkness overtakes me as I faint.
I wake in a cell that I'm guessing is underground. The walls are made from the same material as the room I was in before.
"Aragonite!" I yell to see if she had returned. No response. I sigh. I look around to see if there is anything to break the bars. Nothing. I hear footsteps coming down the stairs and then Kyanite appears in front of my cell.
"Enjoying your new home?" She asks with a wry smile, "Something tells me that you are going to be here for a very long time."
"You'll regret this!" I yell at her through my bars. I summon my weapon, an obsidian staff, to intimidate her, but all she does is laugh.
"Cute," she says, "but not scary. You'll have to do better then that to scare me."
She turns her back on me and heads toward a cell just in front of me.
"Hows my pet?" She asks. No response, "hmmmmm. Disappointing."
She turns away and heads up the stairs. I ran over to the bars.
"Aragonite! You in there!" I yelled. My eyes saw an orange gemstone glittering in the torchlight. Suddenly the gemstone lit up and it showed the outline of my friend. Then the light faded and Aragonite stood there, facing me. Something about her head didn't look right but I ignored it.
"I'm so glad you're ok!" I said. Aragonite didn't speak and looked away.
"What's wrong?" I asked. Aragonite looked back at me with guilty eyes.
"I think I returned too soon." She said.
"Wha—" I started then stopped. I saw clearly what was wrong. In that moment something on her head flicked up. They looked like fuzzy triangles submerged in her hair. I looked closer and saw they were........it couldn't be! It was. A pair of furry orange cat ears. I barely could suppress my laughter.
"You are..ha ha. You...," I could manage over my laughter, "you're half cat!"
Aragonite looked at me. Her face was unreadable. Then she summoned her weapon her orange 'flame' blades, and threw one at me.
"Use this to pick the lock," she said, "we need to get out of here as soon as possible."
"Wait what about my gem?" I protested.
"I'll take care of that." She reassured me. I nodded and started to use the blade on the lock of my cell. It took me a few goes when my lock clicked and the gate opened. I ran over to Aragonite's cell to help her out.
When we were both free we found a way to the entrance, avoiding Malachite on the way, and found a spot to discuss the plan.
"What if you distract Kyanite with voices around the fortress and I steal the gem while you do that. She said.
"Sounds right to me." I agreed. We reentered the fort and split up. Aragonite went for the treasury (where the gem is kept), and I went to the room Kyanite was in. I found the darkest corner and understood why I was doing this. I blended in perfectly with the shadows.
"Kyyyyyyyyyaniiiiiiiite." I whispered in the shadows. I moved to another dark space
"Iiiiiiiiiii can sssssssseeeeeeeee yoooooooooooou!"
"Thissssssss iiiisssss wheeeeereeeeee yooooou have beeen hiiiiding from meeeeeeeee!"
"Who's there!" Kyanite said looking frantically around the room. Thanks to my colour I stayed hidden.
"Iii haven't seeeeeeeen yoooou iiiiiiinnn aaaa veeeeeeryyyyy looooong tiiiiiiiiime!"
(Aragonite's POV)
I headed up two flights of stairs and found the floor that had the room in. I reached to turn the handle when a loud sound came from the room. Thud!
I stepped back. She planned for this! I'm walking into a trap! I turned the handle and pulled the door toward me so I stayed hidden from the viewer inside. The creature inside was large, hideous and green. The hair looked like an evil white flower behind her head. Malachite! I knew it! Somehow I'd have to sneak in, steal the jar and sneak out without being seen.
Then an idea struck me. I summoned my weapon and threw it at the farthest corner with all my strength. It hit the wall with an extremely loud CLANK! Malachite jumped and swung her head to see what had made the noise. In that moment I crept around the door, headed to the nearest shadow and desummoned my weapon, so Malachite wouldn't see it. In my shadow I looked around trying to locate the jar. I spotted it on the table right beside Malachite. Gotta make things hard for me haven't you, Kyanite. I crept around the shadows with every chance I had until I reached the table. I silently snatched the jar and bolted for the door. Malachite obviously saw me because I heard crashing as she smashed herself against the wall to get at me. I was halfway down the stairs when I heard the wall finally give way. I sped up and fell the last few steps. Meteorite obviously heard me and raced out of the room to join me. There was more crashing but it sounded like it came from outside.
"Get ready!" I shouted over the commotion.
"Ready for what?" She shouted back.
"To fly!"
"Right!"
We reached the entrance to see Malachite right in front of me. I grinned and morphed into a dragon and took to the skies. I looked beside me and saw Meteorite in the form of a griffin flapping higher. Behind us the fortress came crashing down to rubble.
(Meteorite's POV)
I looked back at the tumbling fortress. Kyanite came storming out of the fortress screaming at us.
"I WILL RETURN SOMEDAY. BE AWARE OF THE SPACE AROUND YOU BECAUSE I WILL BE WATCHING, PLANNING, AND WAITING FOR A TIME TO STRIKE. I WILL ATTACK WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT, THEN YOU WILL BE MINE!!"
Kyanite turned to Malachite and jumped on her back. She took one more glare before Malachite sunk back into the ocean and swam away.
"Let's hope that's the last we see of her." I said to Aragonite."
"I hope so Meteorite. I hope so."
