Episode 2: Flashback of the Past
Aragonite's POV)
I heard Steven run off to get the other Gems. I had a bad feeling about that. As he went to get them I thought of what happened before I was confined to this place.
...
(Aragonite's POV)
I had never known the real world. Only the moon planet on which I was made. Grey rock stretched out in all directions, dull and boring. A few trees dotted the area. The rock in which I had came out of stood behind me. The only way off this place was a small pad made from crystal. But I knew once you warp off you cannot return. A Gem like me had told me. I had decided today was when I experienced the real world and socialised with others like me. I took a deep breath and stepped onto the pad. A bright white light engulfed my vision before I closed them. Then after a few seconds I opened them and looked around. It was beautiful. What is this place? I thought. Where am I?
I looked around and saw many other Gems like me. Then I saw a large warp pad, like my own, and as I looked three Gems went on it and they disappeared in a bright blueish light. I went to follow them. Looking to see no one was looking I raced over to the pad and followed those Gems. The light engulfed me and when I opened my eyes, found myself on a large platform with more of those warp pads. The one closest to me was just fading and I made sure no one was here before using the same one.
When I arrived I saw lots of green. Plants! I thought. Trees, bushes, ferns, vines and other plants filled the area with a dirt pathway cutting through the middle of it. I followed the path in hopes to catch up with the other Gems. As I walked I let the sounds of the place around me relax me. One time a little winged creature landed on my arm as I held it out. Then up ahead I heard voices and it had to be them. I saw them sitting on something in a clearing in front of a large purple geode. Their colours were blue and icy white. The icy one was male. Strange. The icy one had a gem on his right elbow and the blue one had a gem on her forehead. They were talking about something.
"You heard them in the control room, they are planning an attack tomorrow!" Said the icy one, "we have to stop them!"
"No," replied the blue one, "We'll wait. They might call off the attack for all we know."
"But they might not!" Argued the icy one.
The blue one sighed.
"If Meteorite were here, she'd know what to do."
"Sodalite, we will find her I promise."
"I hope so Howlite. I hope so."
Howlite and Sodalite. Nice names! I shifted slightly to hear them better when I accidentally snapped a twig beneath my feet. Sodalite jumped up.
"Who's there!" She yelled drawing out her weapon. A shimmering blue throwing star. I slowly raised up then walked out of my hiding place. Sodalite noticed me and put away her stars. Then smiled.
"Who are you?" She asked softly.
"Aragonite." I replied.
"Oh," said Sodalite, "welcome to Earth Aragonite. My name is Sodalite and this is Howlite."
"I know." Said I giggling.
"Wait, how long were you in that bush for?"
"About when you were talking about the attack thing."
"Great. She has been there for almost the whole conversation."
I looked away, guilty.
"I can stay if you want." I offered. Something dark moved to my right. I ignored it.
"Great! We wouldn't mind a little more company, would we Howlite?" Said Sodalite elbowing him.
"No we wouldn't." Replied Howlite reluctantly. She giggled. I went off to explore the area.
As I returned to the clearing it was starting to get dark. I raced over to the hideout as the others called it and stepped inside. It was beautiful. A small wooden thing was at the back of the cave. Sodalite sat on it. They smelled strongly of strawberries. There was a table with white flowers on it to her leftWe spent the whole night planning how we were gonna stop the war. Sodalite filled me in on what we were doing.
Sunrise came and the birds started chirping outside. The other two had gone out to see if the war had started yet. I keep hearing Howlite's words in my head.
"Remember what we came here to do. We are not fighting for either side, we are here to stop the war." He said.
I walked outside and without thinking started to practice shapeshifting. I tried a falcon, a crocodile, a Komodo dragon and a cat.
I flicked up my ears, my cat ears, hearing something. I listened for the sound. The wind rustling my fur carried the scent of strawberries. Then I heard it. The sounds of weapons clashing against weapons. Oh no! I turned back to my form and raced back to the others.
"Woah! Woah! What's going on?" Said Sodalite. I panted.
"They have started they— It's happening!" I blurted jerking my head toward the sun. Both Sodalite and Howlite gasped. They raced out and looked around. Then they turned to me.
"Which way did you hear them?" Sodalite asked.
"East." I answered.
"Then let's go!"
Sodalite, Howlite and I raced through the woods and arrived at a large clearing with Gems battling Gems. Fire dotted the area here and there. It was a mess.
"What do we do now?" Asked Howlite. Sodalite, without saying a word rose, and walked straight in the middle of a fight between a Jasper an Amethyst. As I watched, I saw Sodalite raise both her arms, hands faced to either side. Sodalite don't do this. Get out of there! I pleaded silently.
"Stop!" Sodalite's voice rang out in all directions. The Jasper stepped forward.
"STOP!"
Suddenly I saw an Agate run toward the Gems, her blade pointed at Sodalite.
"SOD—Mmmmmf!" Howlite slapped his hand over my mouth, before I could warn my friend, and kept it there. I watched with horror as the Agate came running past Sodalite slicing her back. Sodalite disappeared in a cloud and her gem dropped to the ground. Tears came pouring out of my eyes as I watched the battling Gems continue fighting. I couldn't watch as another, blue Gem accidentally stepped on Sodalite's gem and snapped it in half.
Deep with sorrow, I threw away Howlite's arm and ran back through the forest. I didn't care wether the battling Gems heard me or if they had seen me. All I knew is that I hated them, all of them. I thought I heard Howlite calling for me but I kept running. Suddenly I tripped over the warp pad and, by accident, warped myself into a large cave filled with crystal shards. I ran over to the nearest corner and curled myself into a tight ball, and stayed there.
It had been three weeks since the Gem war and when the Agate destroyed Sodalite. I clenched my fists and gritted my teeth. I could not stop thinking about that day. Suddenly I heard foot steps and voices. I rose and drew my blades. I knew who it was.
Rose Quartz and another Gem came through the opening to the cave and noticed me with my hostile face.
"You!" I said in a harsh tone. I knew that this was the Gem that had shattered Pink Diamond and started the war. But Rose didn't flinch. She just stood there staring at me. I then noticed the large mirror beside Rose.
Suddenly the other Gem was behind me holding me down so I couldn't move. Rose Quartz started to speak, like a chant, but in words I didn't understand. I started to feel drained like all the energy had been sucked out of me and then darkness took my vision. As I faded into unconsciousness I swore I saw a grey ceiling with light coming from it. Then I fainted.
(Aragonite's POV)
The sound of footsteps shocked me out of my memory as I saw Garnet, Pearl and Amethyst staring at me from the other side of my mirror.
"So, she can speak to you?" Garnet asked Steven.
"Yes," he replied, "she said her name is Aragonite."
