Episode 12: Spellbound
(Unknown Gem's POV)
I flicked through the pages of my book to page twenty eight. The heat of the torches behind me was satisfyingly warm. I looked at the words to the spell I had to cast. The shards of a broken Gem sat on my lap. They were pale light brown in colour and some of them looked like rose petals. Let's hope this works. I thought. I've been learning spells for years now. This is my first official spell so I hoped it worked. My heart pounded in my chest as I recited the words to the spell.
"To this Gem,
May shattered by war,
Return her soul,
To who she was before."
I looked down to see if the spell had worked. I saw a few shards move around on their own. My eyes widened as I saw the rest of the shards rise up from my lap and fit together in the air. They glowed as each piece fit together perfectly. Then, when the last piece fit, the glowing outline of the lost Gem appeared. It took a few moments for her to fully form, but when her hair spilled out, the light faded and she fell to the ground, breathing heavily. She looked up at me and smiled.
"Thank you." She said. She shook uncontrollably for a few moments.
"Sorry," she continued, "I've been shattered for so long that I have to get used to this again."
Then she looked up at me
"Wait, how did you fix me?"
"Oh, nothing a little spell couldn't fix," I said, "What's your name?"
"Desert Rose!" She said. She spat out the word rose like it was something sour.
"I don't like that part of the name though," Desert Rose said, "so just call me Desert."
She breathed for a moment the widened her eyes.
"Did you say you cast a spell?" She asked. I nodded.
"Who the hell are you?" She said. I smiled.
"My name is Amber." I say.
(Sodalite's POV)
I run through the canyon maze with Aragonite.
"They should be just ahead of us." She said. I look ahead and see the orange back of the Jasper.
"Jasper! Euclase!" Aragonite calls. The blue Gem turns around.
"Aragonite you got Sodalite out!" She said.
"I thought we left." Jasper says. Aragonite chuckles.
"When I was coming out, something hit me in the head and knocked me out," She said, "but I found out that Sodalite wasn't working with Kyanite and she helped me escape."
"You should have seen the look on her face," I said, "It sort of looked like she was about to explode with rage."
Jasper and Euclase burst out laughing.
"Your right that does sound funny," she said, "I guess you really made her mad."
"Oh yeah we did." Said Aragonite laughing. We rounded a corner and found the warp pad. I warped home back to my room. It's great to be back, I think.
(Desert's POV)
I look around the dimly lit room. The orange light from the torches was comforting and I felt more here with each second that passed. Amber came in through the door to my room.
"How are you?" She asked. She gave me a warm friendly smile.
"I'm good." I say. I step out of my room into the main room. The floor was covered in papers. Spells were on each of those papers so I tried stepped in each space between papers. I finally reached the entrance.
"Where are you going?" Asked Amber walking up to me.
"Just for a walk," I replied, "for the day."
Amber nodded. She knelt down to pick up and sort all her spells out. I stepped out into the sunlight. Everything around me looked fresh and new. The forest nearby looked welcoming and I walked toward it. I trekked through the leafy canopy and stopped near a clearing. Suddenly I felt my legs being wrapped with something. I looked down and saw large vines wrapping themselves around my legs.
"Hi!" I jumped as a voice above me spoke. I looked up to see a green Gem looking down on me smiling.
"Hi there!" She said. She let go of the vine she was holding on to, and dropped to the ground.
"Hello." I said warily.
"My name's Tourmaline, what's yours?" She asked.
"Desert Rose." I said. The vines unraveled from my legs and I stepped away from the spot.
"Sorry about that," Said Tourmaline, "That's how I usually meet new Gems."
"New Gems?" I asked.
"New Gems as in I've never seen them before and I'm meeting them for the first time?"
She smiled at me. I smiled back. She led me toward a cliffside where another yellow Gem was sitting there. She turned and looked at me gently. I noticed she had visors covering half of her face.
"This is Citrine,my friend." She said, "she's been my friend for a long time."
I stepped forward and sat next to her.
"Hi," she said softly, "my name is Citrine, what's yours?"
I hated saying my name but I wanted her to know.
"Desert Rose." I said.
"Nice." She said. Citrine took off her visors to clean them. For a split second I thought I saw a icy glaze over her eyes and she didn't notice me looking. Citrine put her visors back on and looked at me. I realise I must have imagined it. I looked out into the sea and saw the sun starting to set.
"I'd better go." I said. Citrine and Tourmaline looked at me.
"Uh," I said starting to sweat, "I've got to get back to my place before it gets dark."
I say quickly. They nod. I say goodbye to them and walk toward the forest behind them. As soon as I am out if sight of them I started to run. I wasn't going to stay with Amber, I wanted a place of my own. A desert preferably. I reach Amber's cave to see her shifting through her papers, sorting them.
"Amber." I say. She stopped and looked at me.
"What is it." She says.
"I want you to help me find a place in the desert where I can live." I say.
"Alright," Amber says, "let's go."
