Chapter 1
Luna's POV:
It was dark. The strong wind from the vicious thunderstorm outside was howling in the window. I was sitting on a bed, trying to warm up from the rain that soaked me to the bone. The large wound in my side was still burning, and it only seemed to be getting worse.
Sebastian stood before me, looking me over. I tried to avoid his gaze, huddling up in the jacket he had graciously given to me.
After what felt like an eternity of being scrutinized in the darkness, he finally spoke up.
"What were you doing, Luna?"
I fought against a shiver. "What do you think I was doing?"
"It's hard telling, knowing you. But if I had to guess..." he thought for a moment, then I saw his expression drop to one of disappointment. "You were out hunting again, weren't you?"
I looked down at my hands and nodded.
Sebastian sighed. "And by the wound in your side, I'm assuming you got caught."
I reluctantly nodded again.
He put a hand to his forehead and shook his head disapprovingly. "How many times have I told you you can't do that? You have to do things the way we all agreed to do them."
I looked up at him. "Well, I'm sorry, Sebastian," I said defensively, "but not all of us feel like waiting for our meal. How long have you been with this brat?"
"That's not the point, Luna, and you know it. The point is we aren't allowed to feed from random humans."
I rolled my eyes and groaned, part from annoyance, but mostly in pain. I held my side. "Can you please just help me with this? It's getting worse."
Sebastian nodded and came closer to me. I reluctantly removed his jacket that had been keeping me warm, although it was pretty much soaked at this point. I hoped it wasn't ruined.
He looked at the wound through a tear in my black dress. I looked away from him as he did so. I didn't want to see what he was doing, and I fully trusted him to do it right.
In my peripheral, I saw him remove his white glove with his teeth. I rolled my eyes. Sebastian always made things so dramatic.
I felt his cold fingers graze my skin, and I flinched at the pain.
A moment later, I felt something slicing my side again. I held back a yelp, and a moment later, Sebastian stood and stepped back.
I looked up at him, and in his hand was a blade.
"It seems someone wanted to make sure you learned your lesson this time. This is the blade of a dagger that must have broken off after stabbing you."
I could feel the wound closing. The dagger must've been made from some type of anti demon material or something. As soon as it was removed, I was fine.
"Now, if only I had some new clothes..." I said.
Sebastian looked me up and down sympathetically. "I can always give you one of my shirts until your clothes dry."
"Yes, but that doesn't help the fact that my clothes are torn and covered in blood." I sighed. "Maybe next time I'll just starve."
"Contracts aren't that difficult, Luna. You've been in one before, you should know this."
"I know they're not, but the fact that I had to wait for my dinner was horrible. I'd rather just catch it."
Sebastian sighed again. "And repeat what happened tonight? I won't always be nearby to help you."
"You will be if I hunt in London."
"They'll catch on eventually. Luna, if they find you hunting enough times, they will terminate you."
"They tried to tonight. But I'm quicker than they are."
"Not by much, apparently," Sebastian mumbled.
I felt my eyes glow brighter in anger. Sebastian wasn't phased. "Control yourself, Luna." His voice had a tinge of a warning tone to it.
I closed my eyes until they turned hazel, then looked to Sebastian. "Better?"
"Much, thank you."
I rolled my eyes. He was so annoying. "I should probably go. I don't want your "young master" to throw a fit over me."
"You're fine to stay here for the night. If you stay in my room, he'll never know."
"But doesn't he know that I'm already here?"
"I'll think of something. I'm not letting you go back out there tonight. They could be looking for you."
"But-"
"No excuses, Luna. You're staying here."
I huffed and crossed my arms, but it had no affect on him.
"Come. I'll lead you to my room."
I stood and followed him. No matter how much I disliked the idea, he was right. Whoever it was that caught me could still be looking, especially if they really were trying to kill me.
When we reached Sebastian's bedroom, I was a little shocked by how plain it was. It contained only a bed and a wardrobe, which I guess is still more than a demon would need.
"You may sleep if you wish and change into one of my shirts from the wardrobe. Hang your clothes somewhere and I'll have new ones for you by morning."
No matter how much I hated being stuck here, I couldn't help but smile. He'd treated me the same way when I was younger. He hadn't changed a bit.
"Thanks, Sebastian."
He returned my smile. "I'm always willing to help you, Luna." And with that, he left the room.
