ART TUTORIAL- PART ONE

Here it is!

First: Block in the basic shapes from a reference. Try to get the shapes as accurate as possible!

Second: Using red (or blue) go over the basics with detail and stuff. Using red makes it way easier to differentiate between your sketch and lineart later!

Third: Turn the opacity of the sketch layer down, add a new layer, and then call it "LINES", to make it more organized. Now, using the sketch, go over the sketch with clean, smooth lines. Make sure their size varies to add depth to the picture! Then turn the sketch layer off.

Fourth: Turn off the sketch layer. Now use the magic wand to select the outside of the lines. Then click "Inverse". Then create a new layer below the lines, and call it "SELECT". Fill the selected area with a bright color to use to make life easier! This select layer will make your art way cleaner, and will make you avoid using the FILL tool, which leaves white borders and unnatural color.

Fifth: Now... Time to make a color pallet. Hmm... Try to make the colors natural.

Here's some complete NO's to color pallets.

-Nyan Colors

-Black or white

-EXTREME contrast.

I've made mine!

Sixth: BASE COLORS.

This is probably my least favorite part of a piece. But... It's nice.

Basically, lay down the colors. That's all. No shading, no other stuff. Just the design.

Use the select layer to do erasing and stuff!

Seventh: SHADING

AHHHHH

Okay. Take light source and add shadows. Cool.

Use the fur patters to do cool stuff! I usually use the watercolor brush to do the shading.

Here is a GIANT tip.

Multiply and Overlay. Multiply is used for shadows, and Overlay is used for light.

They keep the stuff from the bottom layers and OVERLAY them. Here's an example-

Normal mode:

Multiply:

Overlay is the opposite.

And more shading rules: NEVER use black and white to shade. When you see a paper with a shadow, the shadow is not black.

Shadow VS Light should be opposite colors. If you have a blue shadow, the light would probably be yellow. If you have a red shadow, the light would probably be light blue.

Now, back to the project! :P
