Chapter 53

Chairman Rose woke up in high spirits before Timothy, Ezria, Ash, Serena, Electchu, and Pikachu. On the car ride back to Hammerlocke, Oleana called the scientists at the Energy Plant. They reported the hangar was successfully reinforced, and none of Eternatus' energy had escaped in the past thirteen hours. With Eternatus not making any more attempts to escape, the odds of it submitting to Rose's desires looked promising, and he couldn't be happier. Even Oleana was smiling as the car reached Hammerlocke, her heart growing warm to see her dear boss ecstatic to see his dream coming true. She was still peeved that Venarge was still missing, along with Ash and Serena rejecting the chairman's offer to support them in their dreams. Even so, Rose's loyal secretary shared his joy, feeling nothing could stop him now.

The car stopped in front of the bridge to Hammerlocke Stadium, and Chairman Rose and Oleana got out. They entered the stadium, and an agent let them into the elevator to the Energy Plant. When they hit the bottom floor, they walked down the hall to the hangar, but five agents stepped in, blocking their path.

"Ms. Secretary, I'd like a word with you," one agent said.

"Is this important?" Oleana asked.

"Very," the agent answered.

Oleana furrowed her brow and said, "Very well. I'll be right behind you, Mr. Chairman."

"Very well. Please don't rush into taking care of your business on my account, Oleana," Rose said.

"Yes, sir," Oleana said.

The chairman went ahead to the entrance to the hanger. Oleana waited until the hanger door was closed behind the chairman before turning to the first agent.

"This better be good whatever you have to discuss," she said.

The agent hesitated and said, "I'm afraid what I have to say is good news and bad news situation."

"What's the good news?" Oleana said.

The agent hesitated and said, "The good news is we found your nephew."

"About time," Oleana said. "Where was he?"

"Well, that has to do with the bad news," the agent said before turning to one of the other agents. "Let him in."

The second agent nodded and opened a door on the side of the wall opposite the hanger. Venarge came in with a look of humiliation and anger, deepening Oleana's frown. Venarge refused to look at his aunt as she put her hand on her hip.

"Where were you?" She demanded.

Venarge paused briefly and said, "I was in a jail cell at the police station."

Oleana's anger faded into a look of confusion, and she asked, "Why?"

"Because your suspicion on Durbin's companions was founded," Venarge said as he took out his Rotom Phone. "One of them is an officer of the International Police, and they knew about Uncle Rose's project the entire time."

"What? How?" Oleana asked.

"I don't know, but they planned to trick Ezria into leading Durbin to the Energy Plant with recording equipment wired to him. They likely used their recordings to reveal Uncle Rose's plan to the International Police, leading them to try and stop us. I was on my way to bring a recording of their conversation to you, but they caught me and arrested me. Lucky for me, I was able to call out to one of your agents passing by through the jail window, and he broke me out."

Oleana stood confounded with her eyes widened and her mouth hanging open. She looked away from Venarge and stared at the wall as it hit her that the chairman's dream was in jeopardy. She stood still until her heart was full of frustration, and she took out her phone. Oleana dialed Ezria's number and held her phone to her ear, expecting Ezria to answer immediately, but all she heard was the phone ringing. The longer Oleana waited, the more she feared the worst. The agents grew worried that something had happened to the most beloved person in the region, and even Venarge grew concerned that his sister wasn't answering.

After half a minute of waiting, Oleana grunted and hung up and dialed the number for Agent Lydon, hoping the head agent at Rose Tower would know Ezria's whereabouts. But once again, all she got was her phone announcing it was calling. She clenched her teeth and let out a low growl.

"Ezria, you lovestruck fool," Oleana grumbled.

"Why aren't they answering their phones?" Venarge asked.

"Either the phone reception in Wyndon has gone down, or the International Police have already come and arrested your sister and all of my agents stationed at Rose Tower," Oleana said.

"What?!" Venarge screamed.

"If Timothy is in league with the police, he must have led them to the tower to arrest everyone apart from his young friends," Oleana said. "Ugh, we had a chance to find out Timothy and his companions were up to something when we learned one of them is Dr. Weaver's daughter, and Ezria chose to believe nothing was going on because she's so infatuated with Timothy."

Venarge clenched his teeth and growled, "Send me to Wyndon! I will take care of Durbin and his police friends!"

"No," Oleana said sharply. "Our priority right now is to protect the Energy Plant, and you have caused enough trouble already."

"Trouble? I did what you ordered me to do!" Venarge barked. "I would have given them away if most of my Pokémon weren't injured and Durbin's friends didn't fight dirty!"

"And because of your failure, Ezria was tricked into giving the International Police evidence, bringing them over to Galar and endangering the chairman's dream," Oleana countered.

"Hey, you try taking on two trainers at once with only two of your six Pokémon in perfect batting condition, and one of your opponents decides to cheat by paralyzing you and your Pokémon while ganging up on the other!" Venarge countered. "Besides, at least I made an honest effort to stop them as opposed to letting my emotions get the better of me like Ezria!"

Oleana's frown deepened as she pointed at her nephew and spoke like a parent disciplining her child.

"Listen here, young man, I -"

Suddenly, Oleana's phone vibrated, and she stopped talking out of hope that Ezria or Agent Lydon was calling her back. She took out her phone and frowned in disappointment seeing the name Agent Porter on the screen, and answered the phone. She turned her back on Venarge as she spoke. Venarge kept his teeth clenched, and his hands turned into fists in frustration, eager to continue arguing with his aunt. But as he waited, Oleana let out a huff in annoyance and ran her fingers through her hair, making Venarge and the secretary's subordinates curious.

"I should have known. Where are they going?" Oleana said.

Oleana listened to her subordinate, and she hummed in thought.

"We must root out the weeds before they spread. Follow them and take them if you can. I'm sending you backup to meet you there. Don't engage unless you feel like you have to."

After hearing a word of acknowledgment from the agent on the other side of the phone, Oleana hung up and took a deep breath to collect herself. She turned to Venarge, who grew more eager to find out what the call was about.

"Are your Pokémon healed up?" Oleana asked.

"Yes. Your agents who found me had them healed up at the Pokémon Center for me shortly after freeing me," Venarge said.

"Good. I'm sending you and my agents here to Stow-on-Side," Oleana said. "Agent Porter has just informed me that Professor Magnolia's granddaughter is going there with a young trainer and Timothy's companions. He overheard them talking about solving the mysteries behind the legend of the Darkest Day with the professor and using it to quell Eternatus. If you want redemption, meet Agent Porter at Stow-on-Side. Seize the perpetrators and bring them here where they will be confined. Maybe Timothy's friends and the professor's granddaughter could be used as bargaining chips to get the International Police to back off."

Venarge grinned at the chance to get payback against Coovers and Gwen and asked, "Do you think the International Police will comply?"

"I'm not giving them a choice," Oleana said. "I have waited years to see the chairman's dreams realized. I will see Timothy, his companions, the professor's lazy granddaughter, and the police kneeling in submission before I allow a single one of them to disturb the great Chairman Rose!"

Venarge's grin stretched to the sides of his face, and he said, "Consider it done, Aunt Oleana. I will succeed where my sister did not."

"See that you do, or there will be severe consequences. Now, go!" Oleana said.

With a short nod, Venarge pointed at the four agents standing around him and Oleana and ordered them to follow him with his finger. The agents nodded and followed Venarge to the elevator to the ground floor of Hammerlocke Stadium. With Oleana alone in the hall, she took a few seconds to regain her calm demeanor and went inside the hangar. Chairman Rose stood in front of the core, admiring its structure as though he was looking at a painting. Oleana kept a calm expression, but on the inside, the chairman's blissful demeanor made her heart ache, knowing she was going to ruin it. She walked over to Chairman Rose, who turned to her at the sound of her footsteps.

"That took a little while. What was the matter?" He asked.

Oleana remained silent for a moment and said, "Mr. Chairman, we have a situation."
