Even though it had already been a moon, Fernkit still couldn't believe that Waterheart was gone.

She'd been spending a lot more time with Bluenose, since he was the only cat who seemed to not think that she was the one who killed Waterheart.
Even though The white elder had appeared herself after she died and told them that it wasn't the kit's fault, no one listened.

"You're going to be an apprentice. that's a surprise."
Fernkit turned around slowly, hatred gathering. "Hello, Barfkit."
"Hi, kittypet, twoleg toy, Murderer." Blackkit hissed. "No one likes you, so I wonder... who will be your mentor? I don't think anyone will want to."

Fernkit answered simply. "Bluenose."
"That traitor? Do you really think so?" Blackkit had a really mean expression on her face. "Or maybe he's just pretending. Ever think of that?"
"He isn't-"
"Is he though? Maybe he's trying to get you to trust him so he can hurt you terribly later."
"He isn't!" He couldn't!... but what if?
She heard Stonestar's call.

"I still can't believe that Stonestar decided that he would let a kittypet- a murdering kittypet- become an apprentice." Blackkit muttered as they both padded to the center of the camp.
"Blackkit, Silverkit and Fernkit. Step forward." Their leader started. "these kits have reached their sixth moon and are ready to be apprenticed. Blackkit, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and protect and defend this clan at the cost of you life?"
With one last long glare at Fernkit, the black kit nodded. "I do."

"Then by the power of Starclan I give you your apprentice name. Blackkit, from this day forward until you receive your warrior name, you will be known Blackpaw. Your mentor will be Bluenose."
No! And away went Fernkit's chance of survival.

Bluenose looked at her apologetically as the black apprentice touched noses with him.
"Silverpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and protect and defend this clan at the cost of you life?"
"I do."

"Then by the power of Starclan I give you your apprentice name. Silverkit, from this day forward until you receive your warrior name, you will be known Silverpaw. Your mentor will be Wrentail."
My turn next. I'm dead. She knew who it would be, and it wasn't good.

"Fernkit, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and protect and defend this clan at the cost of you life?"
Do I? What if I get chased away? What if I everyone turns against me- including Bluenose? What if I leave?
"Fernkit?"

"I- I do."
"Then by the power of Starclan I give you your apprentice name. Fernkit, from this day forward until you receive your warrior name, you will be known Fernpaw. Your mentor will be... Pineclaw."
Fernpaw flinched. I knew it.
