Chapter Two

"Hey! Hey! Hey! Circe!" I heard Alex call behind me as I rushed out of the room as the meeting ended." I stopped and rubbed my arms as I tried to make the goosebumps disappear.

"You sure did run out of there in a hurry, what's wrong?" Evanora's eyes softened.

"I...I can't talk about it right now." I said, swallowing thickly. I was trying so freaking hard not to be too obvious, but I guess I was terrible at hiding my feelings.

"Circe," Victor began, "We're here for you, okay? No matter what's going on. It's going to be okay."

"No. It's not going to be okay, Vic!" I snapped. Victor blinked in shock. "It's definitely NOT going to be okay."

"Okay, C, calm down for a second." Alex said softly. "What happened?"

I took a deep shaky breath and shook my head. "Not now." I said, turning around and stalking off.

"Circe!" I heard Evanora call after me. I quickened my pace and turned the corner. I couldn't put this on them. It wasn't their problem.

It was mine.

I had to deal with this.

I sighed and made my way to the training rooms. I needed to think, to blow off some steam.

I closed the door behind me and grabbed a virtual reality headset from the bin. I pulled it over my eyes and summoned a sword.

The big bold words, 'Level One' flashed before me and I got ready. As the room materialized around me, I got into a defensive position. My hands tightened around the hilt of my blade as the enemies began to appear.

With an angered yell I stabbed the first one in the stomach without a struggle. Someone grabbed me from behind and I kicked them in the crotch before punching them in the jaw. I flexed my fingers and turned around just in time to see a man point his gun at me. I summoned a shield to deflect his bullets as I tried to think of something.

Suddenly I saw a gun attached to one of the men I'd knocked unconscious. With a burst of adrenalin, I leapt towards it and grabbed the gun, turning around and pointing it towards the man.

My eyes widened as I saw the gaping smoking hole that had been blown through his chest. He collapsed to reveal Hailey standing behind him, her fist extended and her eyes glowing.

She looked up at me silently. "I thought you could use a hand, looser." She said.

I scoffed and turned away from her, readying up for the next round.

"So," Hailey began, "What's got you pissed off?"

"None of your business." I hissed.

She chuckled and summoned her powers. "I know you see me as a bitch, and I kind of am, but you can be one too."

I stabbed the man coming at me and scoffed. "You and I have two very different definitions of bitch."

"I'm just trying to see what's eating at you, golden girl. You're the one who got defensive."

"Um, maybe because you and I aren't exactly the best of friends." I retorted.

Hailey shrugged. "Touché." She blasted through three guys alone before turning to me. "I just don't want you screwing up the mission because you're being emotional and shit."

I growled at her and shot two men who were sneaking up on her. "If you're going to be here with me, can you please just shut the hell up and fight?"

She held up her hands in surrender. "Whatever." She muttered before she flew into the air and started taking out our opponents.

I looked up at her and groaned. The simulation continued like that for a while, it was silent between us as we fought, except for the occasional times we warned the other about an oncoming enemy.

Finally, the words 'Simulation Completed' danced across my vision. I pulled off the VR headsets and cracked my neck, beginning to stalk off.

"Hey!" Hailey called.

I sighed in aggravation and turned to look at her. She combed her now messy hair out of her face. And looked me over. "About what happened that day, when we rescued you're friend., that was really stupid what you did. When you came back. I could've handled myself."

"Yeah. I could tell."

"Whatever, okay. I'm just..." Hailey paused and began to stumble over her words. Was she getting...nervous? "I mean like, I could've gotten out myself."

I rolled my eyes. I wasn't really in the mood for this. "Was there a reason you stopped me? Because I was trying to get some alone time before you ruined that and now you doing it all over again without even having a point."

If she stopped me to tell me how stupid I was being going back for her, I really didn't give a fuck. It was all I'd been hearing for months. I'm surprised that no one's forgotten it already.

She narrowed her eyes at me. "Why do you have to make me seem like the bad guy all the time."

"Um, because that's kind of what you are. You've done nothing but be a bitch to me ever since I've arrived here. And all I've done was exist. I don't know what about me radiated 'threat' to you, but I just wanted a home. You're the one who decided it would be a fun past time to fuck me over."

Hailey scoffed. "You know what, I was just trying to say thanks for saving me that day. But I guess my apology isn't worth shit to you."

"It's not. Thank you for noticing." I seethed, turning around and walking off, making sure to slam the door behind me."

As I stalked down the hall, the weight of my words finally began sinking in. I realized how harsh I had been. Hailey was one of those people who had a hard time conveying her emotions. And I was kind of being a major bitch to her.

'No,' I thought. 'She's the bitch. Just because I saved her doesn't mean that I'm going to be buddy buddy with her.'

I sighed and made my way tothe cafeteria. It was time for lunch anyway.
