Chapter Seventeen
"Circe! Are you okay?" Alex asked as he saw me walk into the commons area with all the other recovered or non-harmed kids.
"Turn on the T.V." I said, my mind completely focused on the task at hand.
"What?" Victor asked, sitting upwards from where he was previously laying.
"Turn the T.V. on!" I said a bit harsher this time.
Skye's brow furrowed as she picked the remote up off of the coffee table. "Which channel?" She asked.
"A major news channel. Any major news channel."
Soon a lady's voice filled the room as a picture of Dorian Grey was shown on the T.V.
"And in other news, world renowned Elementalists hunter Dorian Grey, who has been otherwise quiet in his endeavors, intends to make a public speech today in a few hours. An inside source says that this speech will change the future of the humans vs. Elementalists plight forever. Unfortunately, Mr. Grey has requested that all press cameras not be present due to confidentiality reasons, so if you want to know what he has in store, you'll have to be there in the flesh." The woman began to go into detail about Dorian's background, which was no doubt a bunch of bull, as I turned away from the T.V and ran my fingers through my hair.
"Hey, what's wrong?" I heard Alex ask. He reached out a hand to pull me close but a shrugged it off.
"Where's Mrs. Florence?"I asked.
Evanora blinked. "Um...She should be in the infirmary helping everyone else. Why?"
"I need to talk to her." I said rushing out of the room. My heart was pounding. This wasn't good. This wasn't good at all.
"Hey! Circe! Please slow down!" I heard a voice call from behind me.
"I can't Alex! This is way too important to slow down!"
Alex stopped walking right in front of me and held out his hands, stopping me in my tracks.
"Then I hope you can talk fast." He said, looking me over with is calculating green eyes.
For a moment, I considered telling him that this wasn't about him. That he didn't need to be dragged into my stupid, problems, because he deserved better. But I took one look at his face and I knew he already understood that. He realized that he didn't have to take part in shouldering my issues, but he chose to anyway. Not for himself.
But for me.
"It's bad, Alex. Really bad. Dorian is up to something big and he's going to reveal it at that announcement thing and I have to know what he's going to say!"
"Circe-"
"No! I know that this is a stupid whim and that maybe, it'll be nothing, but I need the confirmation. I need to be able to know for sure that this either about us or not. I need this, Alex." I said, tears welling up in my eyes. And it was true. For the past few months, I'd been on the run, scared for my life. But now, I found a new home. A safe haven, untouched by the Normals and their supremacy agenda. And I was with my friends. I was not going to lose that.
To my surprise, Alex smirked. "You know just as well as I do, that Mrs. Florence won't let you out there, no matter what the circumstances. I was just going to offer to help you sneak out. But," He held up a finger,"Only if you let me come with you. There is no way that I'm going to let you do something this dangerous without supervision."
I rolled my eyes. "I'm going to ignore the fact that you're more immature than me and just say alright."
"Good choice." Alex grinned. He grabbed my hand. "Now come on. Skye owes me a favor."
