Chapter Fourteen
I rushed in, leaving them behind as I looked around the full room for Evanora, Victor, and Alex. My eyes were wide as saucers and I could hear my own heartbeat. I shoved my way through workers and visitors as I searched.
Keith had said that they were fine, but what exactly was his definition of fine under these circumstances? Did something really bad happen to them before they made it out? Like permanent brain damage or missing limbs?
My head whipped around fast as I heard a familiar voice curse out loud. "Stitches?! Really? You gave me fucking stitches?!"
I rushed over to where I heard Alex's voice and called out to him. His once blazing green eyes widened and he leapt off of his bed, much to the nurse's dismay, and enveloped me in a hug. I stood on my tip toes to fully wrap my arms around him, but I really didn't care about the height difference at the moment. I just cared about him being safe and sound. Here at Eros. Here in my arms.
I pulled away from him and gasped at the stitched he was referring to earlier. Right on his temple, there was a large gash that had been carefully stitched up. I reached out to touch it, but pulled away last minute. The wound was still fresh and me touching it would most likely cause him pain. "What happened to you?" I practically whispered.
"An ambush." He said. "Dorian knew we were coming. That bastard had prepared himself, Circe. One of his men hit me. I don't know what it was with though. I can't really remember."
"It's fine." I shook my head. That didn't really matter right now. "I'm just happy you're safe." I said, pulling him into my arms again.
"I'm happy you're safe too." He replied, burying his face into my shoulder.
"CIRCIE!" I released Alex and turned around just in time to be enveloped in one of Evanora's signature hugs. Her curls tickled my cheeks as she pulled me close.
"Are you okay?" I asked as we separated.
She nodded. "I'm fine. I managed to be one of the more...luckier ones. I escaped with only a few scrapes and bruises. Are you okay? Nothing happened while we were gone?"
I tried to suppress a smile. Typical Evanora. Despite the fact that she had just gone through a no doubt traumatic experience, she still put others and their feeling above her own. It was perhaps her more admirable traits.
"Yeah, Evie. I'm fine. Just glad that you guys are okay."
She subconsciously began to fiddle with her star necklace. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion as she peered around me and frowned a bit. "Have either of you seen Victor? I haven't seen him since the fight and I'm really-"
"EVIE!"
Evanora turned around and nearly tackled Victor to the ground as she saw him. "Oh my goodness, you dork!" She cried out, hugging him close and tangling her fingers in his curls. "I thought I'd lost you! Don't you ever scare me like that again! I couldn't bear to lose you!"
Victor chuckled lightly. "Awe! Star bolt! You do care!"
Evanora separated from him and punched his shoulder lightly with a smile. "If I wasn't so worried about you, I'd have killed you myself!"
Victor rolled his eyes playfully. "Whatever you say, Evie."
I think it was then he noticed me and Alex because he grew a cheeky grin, opening his arms for us. I smiled and returned his hug, Alex joining in as well. "It's good to know that the lovebirds are okay too." He joked.
Alex chuckled a little but stopped suddenly, remembering something. "Hey man, are you okay? I saw that hit you took. The one to your arm."
Victor stiffened up a bit and was silent for a moment. My eyes drifted down to his right arm and it was then that I noticed the large bandage wrapped around his forearm. "I'm fine. It feels okay. The nurse's wrapped it up. She said to be gentle on it for a while."
"You sure?" I asked timidly. "It looks a little-"
"I swear, I'm fine, Circe. Nothing's wrong." He smiled at me softly and I told myself to calm down a bit. At least he was safe.
"Circe." I turned aroundand nearly jumped when I saw the ice blue eyes of Hailey staring at mefiercely.
