Chapter 11
The next day, we organize patrols to check out our territory after the avalanche, and help fix the camp. Tempestclaw is still unconscious, and thus I am organizing patrols.
"No, Splashmoon, you need to go on border patrol," I meow.
Splashmoon eyes me. "OK," she says in a soft voice, "Raventail and I were going to rebuild the nursery, but a patrol will have to do. Who will go with me on patrol?"
I nod to 4 cats I pick out for the patrol. "Tallfoot, Pondripple, and Brambleberry will be in your patrol. Emberpelt, you, Leafpaw and Rainflight go on another border patrol. Brownfur, take Rainbowblaze and Streampaw hunting. Honeycloud, could you lead a hunting patrol with Dovepaw, Hollyjay, and Foxfur? Thanks! The rest of you should divide into groups, and work on repairing the camp."
The cats nod in agreement, and go off to do their patrols and work. Brokenflight bounds up to me.
"You know, you never told me what I should do," she meows.
I nod curtly. "Ummm, yah. You can help by watching Tempestclaw. We need to know when and how he wakes up. Tell me right away when he does!"
She replies with a mutter of, "That's barely a job," and bounds across to the my den. I spot Goldenleaf with Sparrowpaw, and I start towards them.
"How's Squirrelheart coping? Is she better than last night?" I inquire.
Sparrowpaw puffs out her chest and says, "I gave her a poppy seed all by myself, and she is doing much better today!"
Goldenleaf chuckles. "Yes, after some poppy seeds, she managed to get some sleep. I made sure of that last night by checking on her regularly. I believe she's still sleeping now, but we need to give her time to adjust to the fact that her brother isn't here anymore. I can't imagine what it would be like."
"It's hard, for sure. I don't remember a lot about my parents' death, but it was horrible, but nevertheless noble. They died saving my sister and I," my voice almost falters at the mention of my parents. From what I remembered, they were amazing, and I loved them so much. The saddest thing was that I possibly wouldn't see them when I died. I had no idea where they were, and it kind of scared me.
Goldenleaf bows her head in respect. "I'm sorry if I ha-"
I interrupt her, "Oh, it's OK. I have to move on eventually."
"OK. If you need anything, just come to Sparrowpaw or me," Goldenleaf concludes.
"I will," I nod my head, and turn around. I sigh, taking in what had happened to our clan. I never expected to see my sister again, nevertheless with her being this evil. I just didn't add up. She never behaved like this. We were always so close, but I had to make the decision to leave. It had been my destiny.
Suddenly really tired, I lay down in a patch of sunlight. The sun was shining now that the blizzards and avalanche were over. Immediately, the snow gives way, and I am plunged down into a deep hole. Yelping out in surprise, I instinctly unfold my wings, but due to surprise and wonder, I can't seem to flap my wings. I don't think anyone saw me fall, which could be bad if I can't get out.
I hit the bottom with a thud. Luckily, I land on my stomach and feet, so my wings aren't crushed. I look around, and see a tunnel branching out from where I was standing. Curiosity gets the better of me, and I slowly walk into the tunnel. Pitch blackness meets me, but I continue.
Eventually, the tunnel gives way to a giant room filled with bright lights. Many colors and lights fill my vision as I look out across a river. Wonder and amazement fills my mind as I take in the breathtaking sight of that giant room.
