Chapter 3

We've been searching the woods for an hour and still could not find him. I felt so wasted. Without my staff, I don't know who I am. I sighed angrily, which was unfortunately heard by Bunny.

"You okay, frostbite?" he asked with concern.

Really? Did he not just see what happened? "Great. Just great. We've wasted a whole hour walking around finding nothing. I can't fly. I can't control my powers, and, oh, I'm forgetting something. Pitch Black has my staff and can do anything with it!"

I took a moment to gather myself while everyone looked at me in shock. I took a deep breath before I could talk normally again. "I'm sorry," I told them. "I'm a little..." I stopped while searching for the right words, "on edge."

"We get it Jack," Tooth said. She flew up to me and put her hand on my shoulder. "Remember when Pitch came to the Tooth Palace, and all my little fairies were gone?"

"Yeah," I said, looking into her eyes.

"You all helped me get them back. Now, we're all here for you. We're not going to rest until we get your staff back."

I turned away from her and looked at the other guardians. They all nodded eagerly. I just smiled and nodded along with them.

"We should go back to the Pole. Maybe we could find something there," North suggested.

"You're probably right," I agreed. "Let's go."

We all walked to where North's sleigh was, which was hidden from view, and climbed in. The reindeer took off and we were flying over Burgess. "Now where's my... ah, there it is." He took out his snow globe and whispered the North Pole. A big portal opened up in front of us and we flew into it.

I never really liked going through portals. It always made me feel a bit nauseous afterward. That's exactly how I felt right then, but I got good at hiding it. Bunny was another matter.

We flew through the doors leading to where North kept the sleigh, near the stables for the reindeers. As soon as it stopped, everyone got off and we all made our way to the globe room to talk.

"Right, now what are we gonna do?" asked Bunny. No one really had an answer to that.

"Well what can we do? We need a sign from Pitch to know where he might be," Tooth complained.

Everyone thought hard about our next move when I saw Sandy jumping up and down. "Guys, I think Sandy has an idea."

They turned to Sandy and he was making so many signs. What? "Ok, I got nothing out of that." He sighed heavily and pointed at the globe. North went to go inspect it and he instantly paled.

"You have got to see this," he called over to the rest of us. I looked at Bunny but he was just as confused as I was. Tooth, Sandy, Bunny, and I walked over to where North was standing. He was muttering to himself under his breath.

"North? What is wrong?" Tooth asked hesitantly.

"Look at the lights." He paused and I got a chance to look beyond him at the globe full of lights representing our believers. At first glance, it seemed just fine to me, but as I looked deeper I could see that there was a small spot in a town called Honeyglade where the lights were flickering in and out into nothing.

"We're losing them," North continued.

"What's the big deal mate? We lose believers everyday. That comes with growing up," Bunny cut in. North shakes his head violently.

"No, no, no. You do not understand. It's common to lose believers but not common to lose a whole town of believer in one go!" He practically shouted.

"Pitch?" I asked. Could it be?

"There's only one way to find out. To the sleigh!" We all made our way to the stables, all except for Bunny.

"Hold on there mates." At his words, we all stopped and turned around to see him. "Last time we went, we used your way. Now, we're using mine." He tapped his foot three times and North just got time to mutter 'good grief' before a large hole opened up under us and we were sliding through Bunny's tunnels.

All the guardians were screaming, all except Sandy of course, whether that be in delight or fright. Tooth and Sandy looked like they were enjoying themselves since they put their hands in the air. North, on the other hand, looked really scared. Hmm. Who knew that Santa Claus would be scared of slides?

I was having fun, surfing through the tunnels, forwards and backwards. I always liked traveling by tunnels, but it would never come close to flying on the sleigh. At least then you could feel the wind in your hair and you can see the sky looking down at you.

We neared our stop and I saw that, at the end of the opening, there were blue skies and a lot of snow. Honeyglade here we come.
