The Graveyard (Harry)

Yaaayyaaayyqyqashdkksvmlkdj ITS THE THIRD TASK!!!!!! We left you at a suspenseful part, so without further ado,

BAM!

I tripped over a root, and hit the ground hard.

It was the third task, and Cedric, Natsu and I had split up a little while ago. Since then, I'd heard Natsu yelling about fire dragons or something and saw a lot of fire from the same direction.

I'd heard Mr Bagman's whistle four times, meaning all the champions were in the maze. I got to my feet and started running again.

So far, I'd faced a boggart, a Blast Ended Skrewt, which was now huge, and a weird mist thing that turned everything upsidedown. I prayed Natsu hadn't run into that - it would make him motion sick, leaving him vulnerable for some other leviathan to attack him.

I reached a fork. I used the four-point spell (basically a compass spell), and was about to go running right when I heard Fleur scream from my left. I hesitated, continued right. She might get hurt, but she would be fine.

The darkness and silence was now impending on me, and I felt like I was getting closer to the centre.

I turned a corner, and what stood before me was an extraordinary creature, one I'd only ever seen in the Monster Book of Monsters.

A sphinx. It had the body of a large lion, but it's head was that of a woman. She turned her long, almond-shaped eyes toward me as I approached.

She was not crouched, ready to attack, but pacing back and forth, blocking me from getting through. "You are very near your goal." She spoke, in a deep, hoarse voice. "The quickest way is past me."

"So... So will you move, please?" I asked, hoping for the best.

"No." She said, continuing to pace. "Not unless you answer my riddle. Answer correctly, and I'll let you pass. Answer wrongly, I attack, remain silent, I will let you walk away."

I wished Hermione was here. This was her thing, not mine. But I had to get to the centre.

"Ok." I said. "Can I hear the riddle?"

The Sphinx say down on her hind legs, in the middle of the path, and recited:

"First think of the person who lives in disguise,
Who deals with secrets and tells naught but lies.
Next, tell me what's always the last thing to mend,
The middle of middle and the end of end?
And finally give me a sound often heard
During a search for a hard-to-find word.
Now string them together, and answer me this,
Which creature would you be unwilling to kiss?"

I gaped at her.
"Um, okay." I said. "A person in disguise. Who lies... Er... That'd be a - an imposter. No, that's not my answer! A - a spy? Okay, maybe." I continued thinking out loud as I made my way through the next two clues. "And it all adds up to a creature I wouldn't want to kiss! A spider!"

The Sphinx smiled even broader than she was already. She got up, stretched her front legs, and moved aside for me to pass.

"thanks!" I said, amazed at my own brilliance, and stepped forwards.

Just as I did so, I heard Andre Menkov not too far to the right.

"Clementine? Is that you? What are you-" and blood curdling screams ripped through the air. He sounded like he was being tortured, like she'd never felt pain like this before. I stood, unmoving, still in the place I was when the Sphinx stood up.

I looked from the direction of the screams to the Sphinx, who smiled benignly. "You can go help her. When you get back, you can still go through here."

I nodded. And dashed left, then right. Then, the screams stopped. Silence pressed against my ears, making them threaten to implode. I pulled out my wand as I turned the corner to see Clementine sprawled out on the ground, unconscious and completely alone.

I shot red sparks out of my wand above her before I dashed back to the Sphinx. She smiled at me as I ran past her.

Once again, to the right, I heard talking.

"What are you doing? What the hell are you doing?" It was Natsu

Then I heard Krum's voice. "Crucio!"

The air was suddenly full of Natsu's yells. Horrified, I sprinted up the path, trying to reach Natsu and Krum, but with no avail. I tried the reductor curse (impedimenta) and burnt a small hole in the hedge, through which I forced my leg. I kicked at the branches and brambles until I got through to the other side, tearing my robes. I looked to the right, and I saw Natsu (amazingly) standing, eyes closed from pain and screaming, and Krum standing in front of him. I was about to pull out my wand and stun him, but Natsu did something I'd never seen before.

He shouted, voice full of pain, "Fire Dragon's Roar!" And, honest to goodness, he breathed fire. It hit Krum, who fell over.

I gaped at him. "D-did you just-what-how-?" I spluttered.

He looked up from the now unconscious Krum on the ground, noticing me for the first time. "Oh. I, um, did a spell on myself earlier to make my lungs like a dragons so I can breathe fire... So..." He explained awkwardly.

"Cool!" I said, intrigued. "Can you teach it to me?"

" Well Luce told me the words and I did it on myself knew what is was I just had a voice that said to do a dragon fire roar."

"Oh, okay. Is he gonna be alright?" I asked, indicating Krum.

"Yeah, he'll be fine." Natsu replied without worry. "I think we're getting close to the cup."

That's right! I was running to the centre when I came over here. "Come on, follow me." I said, running back to where I'd broken through the hedge. "Through here!" I bent down to go through the hedge, when Natsu pushed me aside.

"Here, this'll be easier. Fire Dragon's Roar!" He spewed flames out of his mouth all over the wall of greenery, which turned out to be much more effective than my reductor curse. We climbed through the now bigger hole, and on the other side, Natsu leaned against the hedges, gasping for breath.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine." He panted. "Just a little low on energy. Come on, let's go! We can't let anyone else get that cup!" He pushed off the wall and started running down the path. I followed him, and saw light around the corner. We turned it, and saw the Triwizard cup gleaming on a plinth a hundred yards away. We had just broken into a run, when a dark figure hurtled out onto the path in front of us. It was Cedric.

He was going to get there first. Cedric was sprinting as fast as he could, and I knew I'd never catch up, he was taller, but Natsu might have a chance-

"Cedric!" Natsu shouted from just in front of me. "To your left!"

Cedric and I looked in that direction to see something immense and dark hurtling towards us. How had Natsu seen it?

Cedric jumped past the thing, which I now saw was a spider, but in his haste, tripped, and his wand flew out of his hand. The behemoth stepped onto the path, and began to bear down on a wandless Cedric.

"Stupefy!" I yelled, and The spell hit the spider's gigantic hairy body but, I might as well have thrown a stone at it.

The spider turned, irritated, and ran at me instead. I started yelling spells and hitting the thing with everything I had, but it kept advancing. I had one horrifying glance at the eight shining black eyes, razor-sharp pincers, before it was upon me.

I was lifted into the air by its front legs, where I struggled madly. Then, I heard Natsu shout out "Fire Dragon's Roar!" He ran at the spider holding me, jumped, and breathed fire directly at the spider.

The spider dropped me, and I fell twelve feet into my left leg, making it crumple underneath me.

"Stupefy!" I heard Cedric yell.

I stood up, and joined in. Together, with two stupefy spells at a time and Natsu's fire dragon's whatevers, we knocked out the thing.

"Are you okay, Harry?" Cedric asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine." I panted, testing my leg by putting a little weight on it. "Go on, take it then."

But Cedric didn't move. He merely stood there, looking at Natsu and I. Then he turned to stare at the cup. He looked back around to look at us.

Cedric took a deep breath "One of you take it. You should win. You've both saved my neck, now." I wonder what Natsu had done to save Cedric?

"That's not how it's supposed to work." I said.

"Cedric... You... Take it..." Natsu panted, still keeled over, trying to regain his energy.

Cedric took a few paces away from the Cup, shaking his head.

"No" he said.

"Stop being so damn noble." I said Irritably. "Just take it, then we'll get out of here.

"No, you told me about the dragons, and you did better with the first task." He replied.

Natsu took a deep breath, and stood up. "Stop it, Cedric. You were there first, so you should take it. I might have been able to catch up to you before the spider, but not now. I'm running out of energy."

"Together." I blurted. "The three of us will take it together. It's still a win for Hogwarts."

Cedric unfolded his arms. "You - you sure?"

"Yeah." I said. "Yeah... We've helped each other out, haven't we? We all got here. Let's take it together."

"Yeah, alright." Natsu said, walking over to where Cedric and I were.

Cedric's face split into a grin. "You're on." And he walked over to me, and put my arm around him to support me. "Help me here would you?"

Natsu smiled widely showing his pointed teeth, and helped me along with Cedric.

When we got to the plinth where the Cup stood. When we reached it, Cedric and Natsu both reached a hand out to a handle, and I stretched mine out to the middle.

"One, two, three!" Natsu exclaimed, and we all grabbed the cup.

Instantly, we were jerked off the ground, the cup pulling us onwards, in a howl of wind and colour, Cedric and Natsu on either side.

I felt my feet slam into the ground, and my injured leg gave way and fell forwards; I let go of the Triwizard cup at last. I raised my head.

"Where are we?" I asked.

Natsu groaned. I suppose the portkey did not agree with his stomach.

Cedric shook his head, and got up. He pulled me to my feet, tried (and failed) to help Natsu to his feet, and we looked around.

We were in some dark, overgrown graveyard; the black outline of a church was visible through a large yew tree on the right.

"Is he gonna be alright?" Cedric asked, nudging Natsu with his shoe.

"Yeah, he'll be fine." I answered. "Just motion sickness."

Cedric nodded. "Wands out, d'you reckon?"

"Yeah." I said, and pulled out my wand.

From slightly behind me, Natsu groaned again and got up onto his knees.

"Someone's coming." He said suddenly.

We squinted into the darkness, and watched the figure draw nearer, walking steadily towards us. I couldn't make out the face, but from how it was walking, and holding its arms, I could tell it was holding something. Whoever they were, they were short. As they drew nearer, I realized they were holding something that looked like a baby - or was it just a bundle of robes?

I lowered my hand slightly, and glanced sideways at the other two (Natsu was now on his feet).

It stepped beside a towering marble headstone, just six feet from us. Then, my scar exploded with pain. It was such agony I'd never felt in my entire life; my wand slipped from my fingers as I put my hands over my face; my knees buckled. I was on the ground and I could see nothing at all; my head was about to split open. I heard a faint 'Harry!' Coming from my left.

From far away, I heard a high, cold voice say "kill the spares."

A swishing noise and another voice screeched the words into the night: "Avada Kedavra!"

A blast of green light blazed through my eyelids, and I heard something heavy fall to the ground on my right, a strangles cry from my left. The pain in my forehead reached such a pitch that I retched, and then it diminished.

Slowly I opened my eyes, and looked beside me to see Cedric lying spread-Eagled on the ground. He was dead.

Then I heard the voice say it again. "Avada Kedavra!" A green jet of light arced towards us.

"Natsu!" I cried. I tried to stand up, but I stumbled, and saw Natsu's eyes widen, and then screw up, shut tight. His hand went up in front of his face, and the light hit him. He fell over, dead, and exhaled the breath still in his lungs.

For a second that contained an eternity, I stared at their faces, Cedric with open eyes, grey, expressionless as the windows of a deserted house. Natsu with closed eyes, looking almost as if he was peacefully asleep. If only he was. Before my mind could accept what I was seeing, before I could feel anything but numb disbelief, I felt myself get pulled to my feet.

The man in the cloak put down the bundle, and dragged me toward the marble headstone. I saw a name in the flickering wand light before I was slammed against it.

TOM RIDDLE

The cloaked man conjured cords around me, so tight I couldn't even move my head. Then the hood fell back. It revealed a face I hadn't seen for a long time and hoped I'd never see again.

"Wormtail!" I gasped.

He didn't respond. He just drew a length of black material from his cloak and stuffed it in my mouth, so I couldn't make a sound. He walked away to do something else, and I couldn't turn my head to see him.

I could only see what was directly in front of me, including Cedric and Nastu's bodies. Natsu's rosy pink hair was bright against the dark surroundings. The Triwizard cup lay between them, glinting in the starlight. The bundle of robes I thought was a baby was stirring fretfully. My scar seared with pain again. I realized what might be in the bundle... I didn't want that to be opened. It couldn't be opened.

Wormtail came into view again, and I saw he was pushing a massive cauldron to the foot of the grave. I heard water slopping around inside. He lit a fire underneath the thing. The water started bubbling and letting off steam. The movements of the thing in the bundle were becoming more and more agitated. The water started giving off sparks as if the surface was coated in diamonds.

"It is ready, master." Wormtail said. He pulled the bundle open and I let out a strangled yell through the wad of material.

The thing was in the shape of a crouched human child, but I'd never seen anything that looked less like a child. It was hairless and scaly, dark, reddish black. It's arms and legs were thin and feeble, and its face - no child alive would ever have a face like that - it was flat and snakelike, with gleaming red eyes.

Wormtail picked it up with a slightly repulsed look on his face. He carried it over to the cauldron, and dropped it in. Please let it drown. I thought. Please let it die. My scar was burning almost past endurance.

Then, Wormtail spoke. His voice shook, like he was frightened beyond his wits. "Bone of the father, unknowingly given, you will renew your son!"

The surface of the grave below my feet cracked. A trail of dust rose into the air, and trickled into the cauldron.

Now a whimpering Wormtail pulled a shining silver dagger out of his robes. His voice broke with sobs as he spoke. "Flesh - of the servant w-willingly given - you will - revive - your master."

He outstretched his arm, and I realized what he was going to do a second before he did it. I screwed my eyes shut but I couldn't block the scream that pierced the night. There was a sickening splash, as something was dropped into the cauldron.

Then I heard Wormtail talking right in front of me. "Blood of the enemy... Forcibly taken... You will... Resurrect your foe."

There was nothing I could do to prevent it. He used the dagger to cut my arm, and caught a dribble of blood on the knife. He went back to the cauldron, breathing with anguish the whole time, and held the knife over the cauldron. The blood dropped into the bag of water, and nothing happened for a few seconds.

Let it have drowned... Let it have gone wrong...

But then a surge of white steam billowed thickly from the cauldron. I couldn't see anything anymore, but the white vapour hanging in the air... It's drowned... I thought desperately. It's gone wrong... Please...

But then, through the mist, I saw, with an icy surge of terror, the dark outline of a man, tall and skelatally thin, rising slowly from the cauldron. He leaned over the side of the cauldron and grabbed the black robes he was covered in earlier, and pulled them over his head.

The thin man stepped out of the cauldron, staring at me... And I stared back into the face that has haunted my nightmares for three years. Whiter than a skull, wide, livid scarlet eyes, and a nose that was flat as a snakes, with slits for nostrils...

Lord Voldemort had risen again.

He looked towards Wormtail, who was now a sobbing heap on the ground. "Hold out your arm." Voldemort said lazily.

"Th-thank you my lord..." Wormtail said, standing up. "You did promise, my lord..." He extended the bleeding stump.

"The other arm Wormtail." Voldemort said after laughing cruelly.

Wormtail looked crestfallen, but extended his other arm, which Voldemort pulled up the sleeve on to reveal an image of a skull and a snake - the dark mark - vividly red.

Voldemort extended a hand, and touched the mark with his long, white forefinger.

The scar on my forehead seared with sharp pain again, and Wormtail howled. When Voldemort took his finger away, the mark was jet black.

"How many will be brave enough to return when they feel it?" He whispered. "How many will be foolish enough to stay away?"

He started to pace up and down, with a look of cruel satisfaction on his snake-like face.

The air was suddenly full of swishing cloaks. Between graves, in every shadowy space, Wizards were apparating. All of them were hooded and masked. And one by one, they moved forwards. Slowly, cautiously, as though they could hardly believe their eyes, the group formed a circle around Voldemort, me, the great cauldron, Wormtail (who was still sobbing and twitching on the ground), and a huge snake I now noticed was circling the gravestone.

"Welcome, Death Eaters." Said Voldemort quietly. "Thirteen years... It's has been thirteen years. There are some of us not present." Wormtail continued to sob, making Voldemort look down at him. "You have revived me, Wormtail, I will reward you."

He waved his wand, leaving behind what looked like molten silver. It formed into the shape of a human hand, and fixed upon Wormtail's bleeding wrist.

Wormtail's sobbing stopped immediately. His breathing was ragged as he stood, and took his place in the circle of death eaters, bowing to Voldemort.

"Some of us are not present tonight." Voldemort continued as if there had not been an interruption. "The Lestranges are currently in Azkaban. They will be rewarded for their loyalty when we break open Azkaban. Three of us are dead. One more, too cowardly to return, one I believe has left us forever, and my most faithful servant, who is the reason young Harry is joining us tonight."

He turned to look at me, and smiled maliciously. "But, of course," he continued, "we cannot allow him to live after seeing me in the flesh, but we must at least let him fight. After all, it must be proven that the likes of a fourteen year old boy is not strong enough to compete with me. Now, untie him Wormtail, give him back his wand."

Wormtail walked to where Natsu and Cedric's bodies lay, and picked my wand up from where I'd dropped it. He brought it over to the headstone, untied me, and thrust the wand into my hand.

"We won't be observing the usual formalities today, unfortunately." Voldemort continued speaking once I was standing not ten feet away from him. "We must be moving on directly afterwards." He paused for a few seconds. "Crucio!"

Before I could do anything, I was hit with the cruciatus curse. The pain was so intense, so all-consuming, that I no longer knew where I was... every inch of my skin was being pierced with white hot knives, my skin was surely going to burst from all the pain, I was screaming louder than I ever had in my entire life-

and then it stopped. "A little break." said Voldemort. "A little pause... how about again?" He raised his wand, but before he could use the curse, I ran behind the giant gravestone, and hid. "We are not playing hide-and-seek, Harry." Voldemort said in a condescending tone. The Death Eaters all laughed, as Voldemort drew nearer.

Was this how I was going to die? No. I refused to die like a sitting duck. Kneeling at Voldemort's feet. I would fight back against Voldemort, like my father, defending myself, even if no defence was possible. I stood up, whirled around the gravestone, and faced Voldemort.

He was ready. As I shouted "Expelliarmus!" He shouted "Avada Kedavra!" The red and green met in midair, and suddenly my wand was vibrating like an electric charge was running through it. And then, the beam of light connecting the two wands turned golden. Even if I wanted, I wouldn't have been able to let go of my wand. And then - nothing could have prepared me for this - we rose into the air.

The death eaters, still on the ground, were panicking, shouting a plea for instructions, but Voldemort cut them off with a shriek. "Do nothing!" A thousand beams of light arced over Voldemort and I, criss-crossing and forming a web of light.

And, as if I hadn't had enough surprises tonight, something started blossoming from the tip of Voldemort's wand. Something large and grey, looking to be made of the most solid, densest smoke... It was a head... Now a chest and arms... The torso of Cedric Diggory. The rest of him slowly emerged from the wand, and then he straightened up, and observed the current situation.

"Hold on, Harry." He said.

A pause. Then something else emerged from the wand, just as Cedric had done. When it was out, I saw it was an old man I'd seen in a dream before, watching me with mild surprise. "You fight him, boy... Keep going."

And already, another head emerged - this time a woman. I recognized her from a missing ad in the newspaper.

"Don't let go, now!" She cried. "Don't let him get you, Harry!"

All three shadowy figures now paced around in midair, waiting for something.

Then a fourth figure began emerging. I didn't need to see her face to know... I knew who it would be...

She straightened up and looked at me, and I, arms shaking madly now, looked into the face of my mother. "Your father's coming..." She said quietly. "He wants to see you... It will be alright... Hold on..."

And then he came... First his head, then his body... Tall and untidy-haired like me, the smoky, shadowy form of James Potter blossomed from the end of Voldemort's wand, fell to the same level the rest of the shadows were, and straightened up next to his wife.

He smiled slightly, and walked over close to me, and said quietly "When the connection is broken, we will linger for only moments... but we will give you time... you must get to the portkey, it will return you to hogwarts... do you understand, Harry?"

I nodded, and gasped "yes"

"Do it now" whispered my father's voice. "be ready to run... do it now..."

"NOW!" I yelled, and yanked my wand upwards, and broke the golden thread, the web, and Voldemort and I fell to the ground. I started running immediately despite my injured leg, dodging stunning spells, ducking behind gravestones.

I skidded to a stop near Natsu and Cedric's bodies, grabbed them both, one arm in each hand, grabbed the triwizard cup with the hand I had Natsu in, and was immediately yanked out of the graveyard, and was propelled through the same whirlwind of colour...

I was going back to Hogwarts... I'd be okay... at least until Lucy and Erza found out what happened to Natsu...

A/N: It has been a lot of fun, doing this fanfiction, which all started when Layla and I were talking in gym class because we didn't want to play ping pong, and one of us said 'what if we did a fairy tail and harry potter fanfic?'

In case you're wondering, we are doing another book, the first chapter is going up next tuesday! It is called The Destruction.

-Lindsay out!
