Help from HIM
[I wrote this some time ago after being inspired by a video on Youtube. It's been in my drafts for so long and it's a pity for such a beautiful story to not be open for all though I'm sure most of you know it already]
I am going to share the famous tale of Hazrat Musa (A.S) that I read. It revolves around asking help from Allah when things get hard.
Hazrat Musa is that prophet of Allah who is most mentioned in the the Quran, the Holy book. I shall get straight to the story;
In the middle of the night, he saw a fire up on a mountain so he told his family to wait until he goes see this fire. And when he goes up there, he finds out that of course it was Allah that's called him. Now in the course of the talk that Allah was giving him through the fire, Allah told him to throw his staff, his stick. Musa threw it and in turns into a running snake, which in old Arabic is known as 'Hayah', a deadly poisonous snake who fangs are out of the mouth. So the snake is moving around. Allah tells him, 'Grab the snake!'
Now you tell me as a human being, grabbing a snake like that and not being afraid, its impossible! Yet Allah told Musa to grab the snake and not be afraid. At this point, Musa doesn't say 'ya Allah I can't do it'. He doesn't make Dua that 'Ya Allah Help me.' He just does it.
Then Allah says again, Put your hand in your pocket, in your sleeve. When you take it out, it will be white, another miracle I'm giving to you.
Quran (20:23-24) This is to show you from the greatest of our miracles, go to Firaun, he's rebelled.
~Firaun (Pharaoh) is the cruel, powerful king of Egypt who has given orders to kill Musa. He is a nonbeliever, an enemy of Islam.
Now so far, Allah has asked him to do pretty shocking things. You know, to grab a snake and his hand changing color entirely. But Musa has no reaction to all of this, he is fine with it. But when Allah asks him to go talk to Firaun, Musa makes Dua.
So now we're learning that when Allah wants you to do something and it's hard, but if you have courage Allah lets you do it.
But you get to a point where you think even for me, with all my courage, this is too hard for me. And this is the time you turn to Allah. So what does Musa ask?
Let's get the facts straight: He is ordered to go to Firaun, who's all the way up in castle and heavily guarded. Musa will have to go directly, all the way to the doors. A place where all the guard have the order to kill him immediately. So one would expect that he would turn to Allah and say, 'Ya Rab you want me to go talk to Firaun, can you deal with his army put them all to sleep? Or can you pull him out of his castle and bring him here so I can talk safely? Or just magically transport me there and I will do what you want.
But, he says, (20:25)
It is a Dua we all are so familiar with, a Dua of success, a Dua we make before exams usually. So what Musa says is Ya Allah, the first thing I need to do to fulfill your command is to calm down and have faith in you. There are times when one might get depressed, or angry. There will be times when you'll be afraid because you see no results. You might go through a score of negative motions, so Musa just says, Ya Allah make my mission easy for me.
That is it, you ask that from Allah and have faith in it, even the impossible will happen. The events will twist in ways before your eyes in such a magnificent way that you will be left marveling at it.
As skilled as Musa is because he is Allah's choice which is always right and perfect, it means there's no other better candidate at the face of the Earth than Musa at that time. He's right for the job. And now we're learning even if you're the most qualified for a job, your qualifications as good as they are, are never enough.
Allah has to make ease on his end. You have to make your effort, of course. But your effort alone can not get you victory. It will come when Allah makes the task easy.
You see, even if we think we are perfectly capable of something, it's because Allah has made that task easy and possible for us. I can write? that's because Allah made things to happen that way. You stumbled upon this book, specifically this chapter? that is because he wanted you to read it. That certainly does not mean he will not put you to test, your conscience to test. Everything that is happening, even the gust of breath puffing in and out of your lungs, is commanded by His will.
So why have we become so ungratefully arrogant? If Allah is being generous with us, why do we believe that it is because of our own goodness and power? What can us, mere defenseless creatures, do if Allah decides that our eyes should lose sight, or our legs be paralyzed. Tell me, what can you do?
So keep making Dua. Asking for his mercy, asking for the right path in life guided by Him. Never forget, He is always up for listening to our apologies and our wishes. He is all ears. A person who has everything in the world except Allah, has nothing, he has the most unfortunate soul. Even if our sins calculate to all the massive space filled between the land and the sky, a sincere Dua can swipe our slate clean, our hearts pure.
