Chapter 25
⚔ The Right Way ⚔
Kayana couldn't help but keep on glancing towards the doorway, even when everyone had finished eating and the women had seated themselves. Still Vodia had not shown.
The plan had been told to all the ladies, and they were all happy to help Kayana, who still wore her veil over her face, despite the questioning glances from Madkun. Kayana knew that she had hurt him a lot too when she had left, but also knew that the past couldn't be changed now. She'd speak to him after she had won back Vodia.
After serving Caterina, Kayana finally sat down, lifting her hands gingerly to her veil but stopping herself once she noticed the gesturing eyes of Corin who was looking towards the door. Abruptly dropping her hands, Kayana smiled to herself as her prefume hit her nose.
Vodia was here.
She heard him clear his throat as he got to her chair and she immediately stood up, removing her plate and placing another one. She saw the tilt of his eyebrows at her movement, but said nothing, not even making a move to sit down.
Absent mindedly Kayana began to take out some food, placing in slices of apple but no bananas, because Vodia wasn't too fond of bananas. But he did enjoy cereal, and so Kayana poured a bowl for him.
Vodia watched this with mild interest as he played with his cuffs. His interest peaked when he noticed a set of gold bangles peaking from her sleeve. Just as soon as he noticed, Kayana's wrist moved again and the sleeve covered the jewellery just as fast as he had seen them.
Just because he had seen Raian, thoughts of Kayana were invading his mind so much that he was beginning to see her in this maid. He had just imagined the marriage bangles that had been given to Kayana by his family on her! He was surely beginning to see things, and if it got worst, he may have to work a little harder.
He couldn't afford to lose focus now. Not at the time of his little brothers wedding.
"I'll eat at the office." Vodia growled out, when a second set of perfume hit him and his anger skyrocketed, causing him to walk away without a second glance.
Kayana moved her hand back from where she had moved it forward to stop him, the thought that she was not allowed to touch him, not yet anyway, stopping her. What was she supposed to do?
Quickly, without looking at the sympathetic eyes of the other women, Kayana poured the coffee she had made into a mug, and hurried out with it, hiking her skirt up to just above her ankles as she made a fast dash to the door.
Opening it, she pushed outside, gasping and searching for Vodia's car. A heavy stone set in her stomach as she realised she couldn't even see it pulling out.
A hand on her shoulder had her turning around abruptly, spilling the over full cup of liquid onto her hand. Scorched, Kayana swung her hand to get the puddle off her palm, throwing the cup in the direction of a stunned Vodia.
The coffee burnt a brown circle on Vodia's stomach and he quickly removed his shirt, patting at the white vest then glancing at the woman in front on him whose own attention wasn't on the fact that her hand was turning red. Shaking his head, he took a step forward and used his shirt to wipe off the remnants.
Being this close to her, the floral scent assaulted him again, but Vodia tried to ignore it. He couldn't let this girl get injured because he couldn't control his school boy feelings.
Bent over her hand, Vodia didn't notice the tear roll down Kayana's cheek. He was so close. She could extend her hand and touch him. She could make sure that he was okay. That he wasn't burnt too bad.
She could show him who she was.
Taking a step back and gazing at the confused expression of Vodia, Kayana lifted a hand to her scarf, unknowingly showcasing the bangles on her wrist to an observant Vodia.
"Vodia!"
Startled, Kayana moved her eyes to behind her husband, seeing Kallm, who shook his head lightly before Vodia turned to see him.
Kayana understood. She couldn't do it yet. She could still see the anger and the hurt behind Vodia's eyes. She couldn't push him. She had to lead him to her when he was ready.
Nodding back, Kayana reached forward and took the wet shirt from Vodia's grip, when he pulled back.
"Are you okay?" He whispered to her, and all Kayana could do was nod, for if she spoke, he'd know.
She took the shirt and scurried back inside, closing the door behind her as she bit her lip.
This was a dangerous game.
