Chapter 21
⚔ The Right Way ⚔
"Corin. Hey, wake up Lavender."
Corin's eyes opened lazily and she was met with a caring set of brown, which crinkled at the edges as she realised she was still leaning on Kallm on the flight. Corin looked around as the wafting smell of food hit her just awakened nose and her stomach growled out a response. Looking sheepishly at Kallm who smiled slyly at her, Corin sat up, but not before rubbing her face on Kallm's sleeve, earning her a laugh from him as he turned to talk to Raian opposite his seat. Corin leaned forward to see Mednia next to her brother silently reading a magazine, a smile gracing her lips at times when she saw something she enjoyed. Looking to her other side, Corin saw Kayana sitting straight, poised as usual and staring at the window. Leaning over the aisle, Corin placed her hand on Kayana's forearm, knowing her best friend was plagued with thoughts of Vodia, but knowing that she could do nothing about it. She had interfered with Kayana's life more than she had the right to do so. So now she was going to be there for her friend, like she should have done from the beginning.
Corin gave Kayana a squeeze before returning the whole of herself back to her seat. The food placed in front of her consisted of chicken and vegetables and Corin scrunched her nose, before craftily looking from the side of her eyes at the crab dish that Kallm had gotten. Glancing at his face, she saw he was already looking at her with a smirk, and she moved her face into a playful frown as she looked longingly at his plate. Kallm nodded slightly and Corin immediately picked up her fork and stabbed the centre of his carefully set out meal. Shaking his head, Kallm picked up his own fork and started eating from the other side. Soon, Corin returned to sitting upright, and back to the cold chicken that was set before her.
Now fully awake, Corin looked around and noticed that most of the other passengers were already asleep. The flight they had taken was an evening one, which Corin hoped would aid in their arrival to Kallm's home. She was to meet his father for the first time. As his daughter-in-law, as far as he knew.
The new thought had Corin feeling nauseous and she unbuckled her belt before standing up, breathing through her nose. Corin didn't notice the confused look from Kallm as she scurried off the bathroom, sliding the door closed behind her.
Leaning on the sink, Corin attempted to get her bearings but it seemed that the whole place was spinning around her. It was a mixture of the pressure of meeting Kallm's family but also the time of evening as well as the flying. Corin knew she wanted Kallm's father to like her, she wanted him to well and truly like her, because she truly liked Kallm. Turning around, Corin looked at herself in the mirror, her blonde curls were spread in a random array and her blue eyes looked bloodshot. Slipping the scarf off her head, Corin evaluated her appearance. How was she going to make a good impression?
A knock on the door caused Corin to jump. "I'll be out in a second!" She yelled out, before attempting to pull the scarf back up, when the door opened and Kallm let himself in, sliding the closed and flicking the lock into place with a click. Oh. She hadn't locked the door.
Corin was highly aware of how close Kallm seemed to be in the small place, his hands only had to move forward an inch to be touching her. Corin's breath caught in her throat as she realised that's all she had to move to touch him to. She moved her hands to beneath her and continued to look at Kallm as he stared back. Neither said anything, but Corin also realised that she no longer felt the pressing feeling in her stomach.
"Are you okay?" Kallm was the first to break the silence, but his voice was so soft and gentle that Corin wasn't sure she heard him at first.
Nodding, Corin made a move to try and leave, but Kallm's hand shot out and grabbed her's before she made contact with the lock. "Corin?"
Corin swallowed and looked up at him with tears in her eyes. Why was she crying though? Even Corin didn't know, but she liked how caring Kallm seemed in that moment.
She shook her head, and again tried to go for the lock, but Kallm executed a gentle tug on her wrist, causing Corin to fall into him. He locked his hands around her waist and her's landed on his chest. Corin couldn't help but lay her head on him as the tears poured out. What if Vodia recognised her? What if he hated her and didn't want his brother to have anything to do with her?
Kallm stroked her hair and Corin could hear his heart thumping beneath her, its constant beating reminded her that he was here, that he was with her to hold her hand through all of this. In the small cubicle, Corin sniffled as she breathed in time to his heartbeat, his rhythm helping her slow her's down. She was comfortable, that much Corin knew, at being held by this man, her fiancé as Raian had called him. But was he comfortable holding her?
Lifting her head up, Corin looked into Kallm's eyes as he looked down at her, his brown eyes a swirl of emotion. Corin lifted a hand to his neck, her fingers going around to the nape of his neck to play with the little tuft of hair that extended there, all the while not removing eye contact with him. He smiled softly at her, his own hands tightening around her waist as they stood there in the small space, their breathes intertwining and Corin felt calm. What ever happens, Corin always had Kallm to lean on.
It seemed the moment hit both of them, as Kallm opened his mouth, his breath hitching as he tried to say something, but Corin couldn't play this game without knowing. She stretched up on her toes, her lips hesitantly touching Kallm's, who it seemed needed that to come out of his stupor. His hands immediately untangled, his left going to tangle in Corin's hair, swiftly removing her scarf as he wound his hands in her ringlets. Corin felt herself pulled into Kallm by either will or his hands, she didn't care, but she was happy for the strong brace around her for without it, she knew she would have fallen much harder.
The two twisted around each other, but Kallm, ever the gentleman didn't make any move to go further, his whole body moved to shield Corin from the door incase anyone was to come in. Even in his hazed state, his first priority was to ensure that Corin didn't get harmed.
But Corin was far from thinking about such things. Her mind was consumed with all things Kallm, and she wouldn't have had it any other way. She tried to commit to memory the feel of his hands on her and his lips, but she knew she couldn't do it any justice.
Kallm pulled away as he felt the storm rage on his face, the droplets falling onto him. His hands instantly stopped their appraisal of Corin, and made their way to her face. "I'm sorry Corin, I didn't mean,"
He was caught off guard as Corin stopped him from talking by planting a swift kiss on him again, before smiling and pulling his forehead down to hers. His hands resumed their position around her and Corin closed her eyes. She breathed him in and he wished he could give her some of his strength.
"I love you, Kallm."
Corin didn't mean for that to come out, not here, not now. But it had, and Corin didn't want to to move. She waited with bated breath for Kallm to say something, anything. But it seemed his only response would be a further tightening around her. She could feel the inner turmoil inside him, the tensing of his body around her and the hotness of his breath on her neck. His eyes had darted to her face when she spoke and she could feel him searching her for a key to what she wanted. But Corin wanted nothing. She just needed for him to know.
"We will be reaching Kairya in 30 minutes, could all passengers please return to their seats." The intercom bustled above their heads and Corin took one last deep breath. She didn't know if she had made this worse or better, but she knew she had given him much to think about.
Going to move, she realised Kallm still hadn't removed his grasp from around her and Corin looked at him. He had closed his eyes, but she had to let him to think about everything. Kissing him once more, Corin placed her hands on his and disengaged them. Twisting out of his reach, she opened the door. Glancing back once more, Corin saw that Kallm still hadn't moved from his position.
She needed to let him think.
Walking back to her seat, Corin settled in, consciously ignoring the sly look that Kayana was giving her. She must have noticed that Kallm had gone after her and how long they had spent back there. Corin became frustrated with the seatbelt, and let out an exasperated sigh. She let the buckle go and instead covered her face with her hands when she realised her scarf had been removed. Quickly looking around, she took note that neither her brother nor her father had noticed but not before seeing Kayana, who it seemed had noticed everything. Pulling it back up and setting herself right, she felt rather than saw Kallm sit down next to her, before he leaned over and did her belt for her. Corin turned to thank him, but before she could, he had already moved to doing his own, and then his attention was caught by Raian showing him something that he saw in a flight catalogue.
Corin's heart started to beat faster as she realised the plane had begun its descent. It seemed that Kallm had also noticed, for without turning to see her, he extended his hand which Corin took appreciatively. He gave her a small squeeze and Corin grasped his one large hand with both of hers.
This was just the beginning.

Authors Note;
Hello my beautiful followers!
I hope you're all enjoying the progression of The Right Way!
I just have one little question for you all, and I'd really appreciate it if you'd all answer it for me :)
Would you all prefer these shorter, more frequent updates? Or one long update per week?
Keep in mind that the story still has to progress in a certain way, so the longer update won't be too much longer, but will be enough to show that it is.
Let me know! <3
