Chapter 20

⚔ The Right Way ⚔

"Come on Ladies! The flight leaves in three hours! We still need to check in!" Ionido paced the front of the store as Raian and Kallm exchanged amused glances behind him.

Raian stepped forward and placed one hand on his father's shoulder, guiding him back to the front of the car.

"Pita ji, it's okay. We'll make it on time."

Ionido opened his mouth to respond to his son, when he heard the bells of the women. Looking up, he saw a flurry of colour as their skirts mixed with each other, all the women happily laughing and talking on their way down, but his eyes were fixed on the one in the orange. Ionido could pick out Caterina in the largest of crowds, his eyes would always be drawn to her. Raian stepped away cheekily when he saw what had stopped Ionido from replying, and wished that his and Mednia's love would someday be a half of what his parents had.

Reaching for Mednia before she walked to the other end, Raian's eyes met with Kayana's who gave him a genuine smile before proceeding to pass her remaining luggage to Kallm. Raian couldn't lie to himself, Kayana was his first love, and because of that she would always have a place in his heart, but she was also his best friend. And without her, he would have never met Mednia, the one whom he truly loved now. Looking down at the brown head tucked into his chest, Raian laid a gentle kiss on her sun warmed head, catching the blush of her cheeks when she looked up at him.

Corin noticed Raian's wink at Mednia and looked away. She felt like she was intruding on something so special and private but she was so happy that Raian was happy. She finally felt that perhaps what she had done wasn't all bad. Without realising that everyone had seated themselves within the cars, Corin remained standing near the boot, her eyes on her shoes as she waited for Kallm to move out of the way so that she could place her bags inside. As Kallm hadn't moved, Corin hadn't looked up.

Kallm cleared his throat as he waited for Corin to glance at him. He had his hands extended to take the bag from her, and he wasn't going to lie, he was curious to see what she had to say today. It seemed a lot had changed since her family had arrived, and he liked seeing Corin happy. When she didn't make a move to give him the bags, Kallm coerced them away by sliding his hands around hers on the handle. Finally realising something was happening, Corin focused on her hands, and instead of flinching and moving away like Kallm had expected, Corin simply removed her hand by sliding it across Kallms, maintaining eye contact the entire time.

Kallm swallowed as it hit him what Corin was doing. She was trying to make him uncomfortable. She was teasing him. And damn it, it was working. Kallm coughed loudly, startling Corin into jolting backwards. He grinned at her as he picked up the other dropped bag and placed them where they fit and closed the door.

"After you, Ji." Kallm teased, opening the door for Corin as she huffed past him. Once she was seated, Kallm got in beside her. He didn't know that by waiting for her, there would be no other place to sit, but he wasn't complaining about that. What he was complaining about though, was how his legs didn't fit next to the smaller ladies who seemed to giggle as they eyed his predicament.

"Kallm Ji," Corin hid her smile behind her hand, but Kallm could still see the creases at the corner of her eyes which told him that she was enjoying this much more than she was letting on. "Are you okay?"

Kallm wanted to pick Corin up and place her on his lap, so he had more room to move. His legs felt like he had been sitting on them for hours, even though they had only been moving for about ten minutes. He gritted his teeth as he bit out his reply, careful not to show his true discomfort.

"I'm fine Corin. Thank you."

With that he looked out the window until the airport was finally in view. He couldn't wait to finally get out of the cramped space. He knew that it was his own fault for waiting, but he couldn't have left Corin there to place her own things away, and besides, he got to rub shoulders with Corin, well, her head atleast, the whole ride there. And he hadn't missed the small sigh's she had every time he had to move his leg against hers. He was also sure that Kayana, who had sat on the other side of Corin, hadn't missed it either, if the bemused looks he was getting the whole way here was saying anything.

Once they stopped, Kallm was the first to get out, stretching completely before going in search for a trolley. Finding one, he brought it around the back, helping Raian unload one car before Ionido drove up with the other.

Leading everyone inside, Kallm ran to the front desk, and once checking everyone in, he led them all to the main gate. Ionido was right, they were beginning to run late. Lirat began her goodbyes by the check in gate, hugging each and everyone of them, making both Caterina and Corin teary-eyed until she stopped by Kallm. Pulling him forward, Kallm kneeled in front of her, like he had done so many times before and she lay one palm on the side of his face.

"Beta, I'm sorry I cannot come, but just know, I wouldn't have picked anyone else for her. I know you think now that you can not forgive her, but know, that love can heal all wounds." Before Kallm could open his mouth to say anything back, Lirat kissed him on the forehead and beckoned Raian forward. Kallm stumbled backwards until he felt Corin's arm around his waist with her small hand acting as a barrier.

"Are you okay?" Kallm nodded dumbly at her question, but knew he had a lot to think about. What had Lirat actually meant?

Before turning around and leaving, Lirat gave one last longing look towards Corin and Kallm standing together. She hoped that they would figure it out.

"Alright, let's go to Kairya!" Raian cheered before getting slapped on the arm by the blushing Mednia. He simply laughed before pulling her to his side.

Seeing them, Kayana's heart swelled. She would soon be seeing Vodia. She would be seeing the love of her life, whom she hadn't fought for, and now she realised that she was wrong. That she should have. She had spoken to Kallm when she had arrived, and asked if this was truly what was right. She had given up Vodia for the sake of the rest of his life, but Kallm had reminded her that she was his life, as he was hers. And Kayana knew that now, she would make it right. She should have never let him walk away those months ago. She shouldn't have let him believe that she was with Raian. She should've went with him. And now was her chance to make it right. And perhaps, even help Corin.

Corin walked to her seat on the plane, placing her carry-ons in the overhead locker and took her seat next to the smiling Kallm. She looked around and saw her mother, who nodded at her as she took her seat next to her husband. Corin sat down then, looking at everything but at Kallm. She wasn't ready to sit this close to him in a place where she couldn't get away.

"Here, let me help you." Before Corin could move or react, Kallm was already leaning over and helping her with her belt, pulling it tight against her waist before sitting straight and throwing her a crooked grin. Corin knew now that he was trying to play her game with her. But Corin wasn't one to lose.

Opening her mouth, Corin let out a lady-like yawn, ensuring that her eyes became teary as she looked at Kallm, who immediately stiffened. "You don't mind, do you? Kallm ji?" Putting emphasis on his name and without waiting for a response, Corin let herself relax against Kallm's shoulders. Although Corin was only meant to be pretending, she let the smile cover her face as she slowly drifted off the sleep on the shoulder of the man who she wished she would marry, even before the flight attendants had finished their final check.
