Chapter 19

⚔ The Right Way ⚔

Corin moved around Kayana to reach another purple scarf that was laying on her bed, bringing the material up to her face as she glanced at Kayana, who nodded. Both girls laughed happily, both enjoying how easily they had come back to being friends.

Kayana was happy knowing that Corin had realised that mistake that she had made, and though it may have been the worst feeling in her life at that point, it was ultimately Corin which had led her to Vodia. Kayana looked back at the scarf in Corin's hand, catching it before Corin had thrown it into the suitcase with the rest of her things.

"Corin?" She continued when she heard Corin make a sound of acknowledgement, "Wasn't this the same scarf you wore on the day of my wedding?"

Corin dropped the shirt she was folding and grasped at the one Kayana had extended towards her. The one that Kallm had seen her in first. The one that had led to him calling her his Lavender, a nickname that she now adored. Corin smiled wistfully at the thought, that if perhaps she had met him under a different circumstance, she wouldn't have let him go. Not for anything.

Kayana saw the change on her face before Corin even registered her features falling. Standing up, Kayana picked up the skirts laying on the ground and began folding them. "You know Corin, I thought you would have called me earlier."

Corin's expression took a guilty turn, and her tongue found its way between her teeth as she peered at Kayana through her eyelashes. "I wanted to, I promise. I just didn't know how." She looked straight at Kayana then. "I'm sorry."

Corin sat on the bed in a huff, and looked at her hands, until Kayana took them in her own. She reached up with one and tapped on Corin's head lightly with her finger. "I completely understand Corin. But just know, that now, I am thankful for what you did. I found Vodia because of you. And without you, I may have missed out on the chance to know such a man. So thank you." Corin smiled at Kayana's sisterly love, and hugged her. "Just, never do it again, okay?" Corin laughed into Kayana's shoulder as she nodded her head against her.

Pulling back, Kayana reached for the purple scarf again, and swapped out Corin's pink one. Kayana winked and stepped away, to finish the packing for Corin's wedding. Corin stood up gleefully, her mind already on finding Kallm.

Walking out of her room, Corin fixed the scarf on her head, spreading it to lay nicely on her shoulders as her anklets chimed as she walked. She felt so carefree in such a long time, she couldn't help the gentle jump to her steps. She walked past the corridor to the other end of the house, where she knew she would find Kallm standing on the balcony above the store.

When she got there, Corin saw his leaning over the railing, staring out into the sunset. It was beautiful, even she could admit that the red and orange hues made Kallm's figure stand out more, the colours setting fire to his hair and before he even turned around she knew the suns glare would make his eyes burn with an intensity that she knew would affect her more than she would let on.

Corin cleared her throat as she realised that all that she loved about the sunset, she now loved about Kallm. Was that what Kayana already knew? Did Corin truly love Kallm?

Before Corin had much time to dwell on her new admission, Kallm had turned around, studying the frozen Corin who had one hand playing with her lip. What he would give to know what she was thinking about. Before Kallm could take a step forward, Corin began walking to him. Where all this confidence came from, she didn't know. But she knew that she wouldn't let Kallm walk without at least trying. Corin at least knew that Kallm cared for her, now she just had to show him that she cared for him too. And that she could fix this. She could fix it for him just like how he had fixed it for her.

Immediately, Kallm noticed the lavender scarf on her blonde curls and he smiled to himself. He also wondered if she had realised the significance of it. Kallm knew that even if he couldn't have Corin, he could live with the memories that he had made with her. Especially that scarf.

As Corin came to stand in front of him, closer than she ever had initially, Kallm lifted his hand to the soft material above her head and gently unhooked the pin that held it loosely to the her top. It didn't seem Corin had noticed what he had done as she continued to gaze at his eyes, and musing that she had been right, the setting sun had lit up his eyes and brought forward the brown hues she knew were there. If only she had the time to count each and every one. But she would damn sure try.

Corin put her hand out to rest on Kallm's stomach as she used one to comb the hair away by his ear. This man truly tried to do all he could to help her, and now it was her turn. And help him she would, but that didn't mean that she couldn't prove to him that she could continue helping him. Corin felt Kallm relax into her touch in an instant and she couldn't stop the bubble of pride that she could make him feel like this.

"Kallm," Corin began but he simply shook his head. Kallm continued to gaze at Corin. He didn't want to speak and ruin the moment. He didn't want to have to go back to not knowing the future. He was a man who was in charge, not one who didn't know what would happen after a month. The thought made him instinctively grasp Corin tighter, who let out a startled sigh. Kallm immediately loosened his grip, but when he noticed that Corin hadn't moved away his arm brought her closer. This was what it could've been all the time. This could have been their future.

Corin noticed when she began to lose Kallm, and instead of calling him back, she lay her head on his chest and began slowly swaying. Each move was to the beat of his heartbeat and Corin closed her eyes. Kallm lay his head atop of hers and used his body to wrap Corin into him. This was where he wanted to be.

In a fit of courage, Corin lifted her head and planted a chaste kiss on the side of Kallm's mouth. Alarmed, Kallm gaped at Corin, before grinning. This was the Lavender that he had thought about. The one who wasn't afraid to take risks. Leaning down, Kallm placed his fingers under her chin, moving her so he could see every stretch of her skin over her lips.

"Corin?"

Both of them looked towards the door, before Corin slowly moved herself away. Glancing up once more, Corin flashed Kallm a bold smile before scurrying away.

"Ji, Bhaiya?"

"Oh, there you are. Where's your scarf?"
