Chapter 27
Niall POV
It's been a couple days since the interview and run-in with McClain. I've been thinking about the whole thing a lot, and it's actually taken a toll on me. I'm just stressed and worried all the time. But I've decided I'm not going to worry about it anymore. Not until I know that there is an actual problem, at least.
It's Friday night, and I'm going over to Torre's apartment. I haven't seen her since the day of the interview. We've been so busy with promos stuff and now we're actually starting rehearsals for our upcoming tour.
I grab my keys and hop into my car to drive over there. It only takes a couple minutes to get to her apartment, even though she stays on the outskirts of the city. When I get there I ride the elevator up to the room and give her our "secret" knock on the door. We came up with it awhile ago, when I was here. Knock knock knock knock knock, knock knock.
The door soon opened and she stood there in front of me, looking beautiful as ever. Her golden, wavy hair is pulled up into a ponytail on the back of her head. Her hazel colored eyes are sparkling, like they always do, and she is wearing a pair of yoga pants and a sweatshirt. And honestly, she's never looked more beautiful.
"Hi there." She smiled, beckoning me inside. I walked through the door and right into her arms. I wrapped my arms around her and nuzzled my head into her neck. She smelled amazing, her sugary-sweet floral scent talking over my senses. I brought my lips to hers and kissed her slowly. She smiled and I pulled away.
"That's a nice way to say hello." She giggled.
"I just can't seem to get enough of you." I admitted. She walked back towards me and pecked me quickly on the lips.
"That makes two of us."
"So what are we doing tonight?" I asked curiously. We had just decided on hanging out, so I didn't know what exactly she had planned.
"Well, I thought we could have a little competition..." She started, giving me a smirk.
"What kind of competition?" I asked. What was planning?
"I don't know about you Horan, but I'm a mean board game player. What do you say?"
"Oh honey, you're on." I said.
"Expect the unexpected." She teased as she went to the closet. She stood up on her tip toes, trying to reach the top shelf, where all the board games were stacked on top of each other. She looked so adorable, standing there reaching with all her might to try to get the games.
"Need some help there?" I teased, walking over to help her.
"If I was just a couple inches taller..." she started, more talking to herself than me, becoming more frustrated that she couldn't reach it as she still continued jumping up and down.
"Torre, let me help you." I said and grabbed her by her legs, lifting her up and sending her into an eruption of giggles.
"Niall! Put me down!" She said.
"No, get the games!" I said, lifting her up even more, her pleas for relief only encouraging me more. She finally managed to get her hands wrapped around the bottom box and lifted them all up. I set her down softly, both of us still laughing uncontrollably as she set them down on the table. This is why I liked her. She didn't take this so seriously, just like me. But at the same time, she cared more than she let on.
"That was fun." She said, taking a seat at the table and eyeing the stack of games.
"Yeah, it was. So what game will I be beating you at first?"
"Hmmm...I was thinking we could start with...battleship?" She asked.
"I'm a beast at battleship, so yes." I joked. She reached for the box and we both got set up and placed our ships where we wanted them. "Ladies first." I said and she started.
"I'm gonna go with B9." she said, staring me down.
"Miss." I smirked. "J10."
"Miss." She said back, equally as competitively. "A3."
"Miss. D6."
"Miss. C2." Dang.
"Hit." A look of satisfaction took over her face and she smirked back at me. I'd never seen this competitive side of her before, but I had to admit, it was hot.
"Okay then, Horan." She said, putting a little red peg on her board.
"E8."
"Miss." She said. She proceeded to then sink my whole ship she started on. The rest of the game was close, and she ended up winning, but I put up a good fight.
"What was that you said about beating me?" She teased.
"I said I'd beat you overall. That was only one game." I pointed out.
"Okay.." She said sarcastically, reaching for the checkers. I ended up beating her in checkers and Guess Who, and now we were currently playing clue.
"I think it was Mrs. Scarlett, in the library, with the rope." Torre said proudly, staring at me with wide eyes. I looked down at my cards. Dang it, she got it.
"I can't prove you wrong." She got the envelope marked 'confidential' in big, bold letters and slid the cards out, revealing that she was correct in her guess.
"Yay! Looks like we're all tied up now, Niall."
"Let's settle this once and for all then." I said, grabbing scrabble and getting the board out. We both drew our tiles got started. Torre looked so adorable, her brow curved down in concentration as she started intently at her tiles.
As the game went on, Torre and I were literally head to head. She had only one more point than me, it was that close. We were down to our final words.
I put my final word down, queue, giving me a solid 14 points and putting me ahead of Torre. As long as she didn't come up with an amazing word, I had this in the bag.
"Can you beat that babe?" I smirked, feeling pretty confident that I would win.
"I'm not sure. Let's see how this adds up." She grabbed her last remaining tiles and spelt 'jukebox' on the board. Giving her 27 points. 27!
"That's twenty-seven, I think." Torre said smirking. "So that means-."
"You win." I said, jutting my lip out and making a sad face.
"Yep. I'm the champion. What's my prize?" Torre joked.
"Hmmm..." I said, walking over to her. "How about a kiss?"
"Sounds good to me." With that, I brought my lips to hers and kissed her deeply. When I pulled away, her face was flushed.
"How's that for a prize?" I chuckled.
"Pretty good." She blushed.
"So what now?" I asked. I feel Torre about what happened before the interview, just to get it off my chest, but I can hardly do that without telling her that whole story, and that I was basically forced to find a girlfriend. I just can't hide the guilt that washes over me every time I remember what's going on that she doesn't know about.
"Um..we could order pizza and watch a movie." She suggested.
"I'll never turn down pizza and cuddling with you." I said, and she blushed again. I guess she just wasn't used to open affection, but I thought it was adorable. She looked so cute when her cheeks were rosy like that.
"Okay!" She dug through a kitchen drawer for the pizza place ad and coupon, and then called and ordered it. While she did that, I picked out a movie and got everything ready in the living room. I picked out 'We're The Millers.' I'd never seen it before, but I heard it was pretty funny. Torre walked back into the room and took a seat on the couch.
"So what are we watching?"
"We're The Millers. Is that okay?" I asked.
"Yeah, I love that movie! It's hilarious." she said. I took a seat next to her on the couch and she snuggled into my side. I grabbed a blanket and wrapped it around us.
"It feels like we're snuggled up in a cocoon!" she giggled.
"A very warm and cuddly cocoon." I said, as she nuzzled her head into my chest. "I wish we could stay like this forever." I said.
"Me too." she giggled again. That giggle will be the death of me. We continued watching the movie until the pizza arrived. When it did, I went and paid the fellow (even though Torre insisted she pay since I have paid for everything else) and brought in two plates. We sat on the floor of her apartment, criss- cross eating pizza. It wasn't glamorous, it wasn't fancy, but it was perfect. It was us.
When the movie was over, I stood up to leave.
"Well, I'll see you tomorrow then?" I asked, walking towards the door.
"Yeah, if you're sure you want me to come." I invited Torre to come to our interview tomorrow and then out to eat with the boys and I afterwards.
"Definitely, if you want to. You'll just have to hang backstage, but then we can go out to lunch afterwards."
"Sounds good to me."
"Great I'll have Ricky come pick you up."
"Okay! Thanks for coming over tonight, Niall. I had a great time."
"So did I. Goodnight, sweetheart." I said, grabbing her in my arms and embracing her tightly. I gave her a sweet kiss on the lips and exited the apartment. "Sweet dreams, my love." I said, walking down the hallway and giving her one more wave.
"Sweet dreams." She said.
